“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is

beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is

constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of

others -1 Corinthians 10:23-24.

When Paul wrote these words by the inspiration of Holy Spirit he was

addressing a divisive issue within the Corinthian church. When you

read the context you see that the meat markets in Corinth sold meat

that was sacrificed to idols. Some Corinthians refused to buy and eat

the meat because it troubled their conscience. They reasoned, "How

can I eat meat sacrificed to an idol when I worship the One True

God?" Other Corinthians reasoned, "Because there is One True God

idols are nothing. I can eat that meat all I want." Paul sought to resolve

this tension in the Corinthian church, not by pointing out who was right

in this issue, but by making an appeal to love.

As the Pastor of Cove Spring Church I am making an appeal to love.

We are reopening our church June 7th. I have spoken with church

members who have told me that if they come to church and others are

not wearing masks they will not feel comfortable attending in person.

By wearing a mask, regardless of how we personally feel about face

masks, we can ensure our fellow believers will continue to get the

benefit of in-person worship. When the wider culture is experiencing

division over how to reopen our society, we can be a witness of what

can happen when the people of God choose the way of love.

Attention all Cove Spring Members

and Non-Members.

A Message from your Deacon Board:Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the deacon board has been meeting regularly online (via Zoom). In addition to outreach to the congregation, members of the board have begun discussing how best to accomplish two things:

1) Ensure a meaningful worship experience and sense of fellowship for all who attend Cove Spring Church, even if they're not online and don't use social media;2) Resume worship services and other activities in person at the church in a safe manner when the appropriate time comes.

If you have thoughts on either matter, you are welcome to contact Pastor Greg or a member of the deacon board (Ann Horner, chair; Bob and Joyce Houshel; Tom and Kim Roeser; Ben and Julia Sutherly; or Doug Wagner.) Wishing you good health and spiritual fulfillment during this time.

We have a group of dedicated volunteer members who are making themselves available to pick up groceries, medicines, or help in other ways necessary. Attention all Cove Spring Members

– Message Continued

Cove Spring Church will resume in-person worship services at 9:30 am on Sunday, June 7.

The deacon board wants to ensure a safe, meaningful worship service that provides members of our congregation the

opportunity to gather to worship God and to encourage one another. We have been following the guidance of public

health officials to do so. The last thing we want is for someone to become sick, or for an outbreak of the virus to occur

at our church and sicken members of the congregation, forcing us to suspend in-person services again.

For some time – likely until a vaccine for COVID-19 is widely available – it will be necessary to modify our worship

services. We will encourage social distancing and are taking several other steps to ensure your safety and to ward off

an outbreak. We will also continue to record Pastor Greg’s message and at least one musical selection each week and

provide those online. If you have underlying health conditions or do not feel comfortable attending church in-person

at this time, we encourage you to worship online. If neither worship option (in-person or online) works for you, we

encourage you to speak with Pastor Greg or a member of the deacon board.

If you plan to attend church in-person:

Per public health guidance, we ask that you wear a mask or cloth face covering out of consideration for others.

We have received feedback that some members of our congregation would not feel comfortable attending in-

person services if masks are not used. We recognize that masks can sometimes be uncomfortable to wear, and we

also understand that not everyone feels that it is necessary that they wear a mask. However, we ask that you wear

a mask or cover your face (nose and mouth) out of care and concern for others in the congregation. Thank you for

your understanding. We ask that you bring your own mask, if possible, but we will have a small supply available at

the church.

To promote social (or physical) distancing:

o Please wait in either vestibule to be seated. The vestibules will be marked with strips of tape six feet apart.

Both entrances will be utilized, as they normally are during church services.

o You will be seated by an usher, wedding-style. Seating will be from the front of the church to the back of the

church, and members will be dismissed by ushers from the back to the front, again to minimize contact.

o Every other pew will be left empty, and the pews available for seating will be marked with strips of tape to

indicate a distance of 6 feet so that one or two church members from different households can sit at each end

of the same pew and maintain the proper distance.

o If you plan to sit with other family members, we encourage your entire group to meet outside and then enter

the church together. This will help to simplify the seating process.

o After you are escorted to your seat, we ask that you practice social distancing and do not move about the

sanctuary.

o The offering plate will not be passed during services. Offering plates will be available in both vestibules before

and after church services for your convenience.

o Communion will not be observed during in-person worship services at this time.

o At the conclusion of services, after you have been escorted out of the sanctuary, we ask that you do not

congregate in the vestibule or near the entrances of the church to allow for social distancing.

For your safety, and to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus:

o Please take your temperature before coming to church. If you have any of the following symptoms, we ask that

you do not attend services in person:

Cough

Shortness of breath

Fever

Chills

Repeated shaking with chills

Muscle pain

Headache

Sore throat

New loss of taste or smell.

o Care has been taken to sanitize the sanctuary and high-touch areas.

o Doors to the church will be opened for you upon your arrival, or will be propped open, until services begin.

o Only instrumental music will be provided at the present time. For some services, pre-recorded music will be

provided.

o Hymns will not be sung. Singing has been shown to help spread the virus.

o Microphones will not be used for announcements, joys, and concerns.

o So as not to interfere with the congregation’s ability to hear the message, Pastor Greg will not be wearing a mask

during church services. The pews at the very front of the church will be kept empty because of this.

o Hymnals, Bibles, and other books have been temporarily removed from the backs of the pews, as well as from

the seats in the east wing. We encourage you to bring your own Bible for worship services if you would like to do

so.

o Hand sanitizer and Kleenex will be provided for your convenience and to promote sanitary conditions.

Junior church will not be held at this time. Activity sheets will be provided for young children. Parents should plan on

bringing their own crayons, pencils, etc.

Sunday school will not be held in-person for the foreseeable future. The possibility of meeting online via Zoom is

being considered in some cases. Your teacher (or your child’s teacher) will contact you if this is being considered for

your class.

We ask that church members not meet or hold activities at the church outside of worship services at this time (Bible

study, committee meetings, etc.).

These conditions are not ideal, of course, and we look forward to bringing back normal worship services as soon as it is

safe to do so. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we take this interim step toward

reopening our church.

OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS

Luke 2:49 (Jesus) said unto them, How is it that ye sought me?

(Know) ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

My father taught his children many valuable lessons– the foremost being

that we were to revere the name of God at all times an to honor the love

and unity of our family. From the time I was very young, my father

seemed to place a great amount of trust in me. In the safe and secure

environment of our little town, he would send me to the bank to deposit

sums of cash from the sales generated at his place of business. Within

two months after my sixteenth birthday, having received my driver’s

license, my father allowed me to drive 120 miles to an out-of-state city to

pick up supplies from the headquarters of his company. It felt good to

“be about my father’s business,” to represent him in what I thought to be

important affairs.

For years now, I have also represented my heavenly Father’s

business—the most important in the world. It amazes me that God

entrusts the affairs and cares of the human soul to us disciples. Though

for years I preached sermons with words from the pulpits of churches,

today I preach with my daily words and actions.
