A Toast to Miracle Antioxidant OPC

I was invited to speak about the health benefits of OPC at the National Cancer Centre (NCC) Singapore. I finished my presentation facing a silent audience of 30 medical specialist, they remained skeptical of what was behind my personal recovery as a leukemia patient and of the numerous case studies on record about the miraculous health benefits of the antioxidant OPC from the humble grape seed, already traded as Vitamin P of tomorrow.

Next morning, to my surprise I was invited back to NCC to provide more information, and to stock up the pharmacy with VITIS Cold Press Grape Seed Oil, delivering its powerful natural ingredient OPC and other antioxidants, that can prevent a wide spectrum of common diseases.

Fist isolated by Prof. Jack Masquelier from the membrane of the peanut, later from the bark of the maritime Pine Tree ( he registered the substance under Pycnogenol), OPC’s are powerful antioxidants compounds that are a must in every aspiring health and beauty regime, as every red wine drinker will attest. Even larger amounts of OPC ( Oligomeric ProanthoCyanidin) were discovered in the humble grape seed. In the past Grape Seed Oil was reserved for nobility in the court of Egypt, Greece and Europe, and considered the most desirable tonic for beauty, strength and health of a selected few.

OPC-What is it ?OPC is a natural health-supporting compound of antioxidants, some of which are found in many fruits and vegetables, though in abundance only in the grape seed. It is classified under polyphenols of which some members are biologically active, some are not. Both flavonoids and flavanols belong to this group. OPC is highly specialized flavanols, and as such 100% bioavailable, active, non-toxic, with a strong affinity for protein, especially collagen, the stuff our skin, organs and cells are made of. This affinity accounts for much of OPC’s extraordinary value to health.

OPC’s Health Benefits at a GlanceThey are numerous and significant. Acting as a superior antioxidant, it protects cells

in the body against destruction by free radicals (aggressive and highly reactive oxygen molecules: the enemy!)

Lowers LDL cholesterol levels, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, edema, thrombosis)

Reduces platelet aggregation, thus reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

Increase the strength and elasticity of blood vessels, protecting against rupture, leakage and degeneration.

Enhances the ability of collagen to repair itself, thereby protecting against age-related and degenerative processes in the body.

Inhibits swelling (edema) and inflammation. Relieves functional problems of varicose veins. Reduces discomfort in women associated with

PMS and menopause. Reduces the tendency toward Diabetic

Retinopathy. Improves skin health by reducing damage,

increasing nutrient supply and improving elasticity.

How does OPC work?OPC is not a drug per se. OPC is rapidly absorbed by the body system, trespassing the blood brain barrier more quickly than any other antioxidants. Highly reactive as an antioxidant in both lipid (fat) and aqueous (water) phases, OPC neutralizes free radicals and thus protects cells and DNA from their destructive work. OPC provides special protection to connective tissues (collagen specifically) from attack of free radicals and prevents oxidative damage (rusting, aging) to cellular membranes. Over many years since its discovery, OPC has undergone extensive in vivo and in vitro testing and has successfully demonstrated that as a beneficial antioxidant, it is unsurpassed. Many others, though, are as yet untested. OPC potentates Vitamin C, supporting its function in the body, increasing its potential. OPC was found to be 50 times stronger than Vitamin E, 20 times stronger than Vitamin C.

Are there any risks? Over 50 years research and observation have found no risks associated with OPC use naturally (as oil or flour) or supplementary (isolated or extracts). It is even deemed suitable for pregnant women, though smaller dosages are wiser everyday. For daily health, dosages of 100-150mg of active OPC are recommended, for curative or therapeutic use 300mg has shown positive results. In every rare cases, the initial detoxification process might cause migraine; initially a lower dosage is then recommended. Should you face a health problem, it is advisable to consult your doctor, before you decide to consume OPC in Grape Seed Oil or Grape Seed Flour, particular for therapeutic use.

Cold Pressed is Best!Cold Pressed Grape Seed-VITIS AG/Germany has rediscovered and refined a patented process which will keep natural bioactive ingredient intact. You will enjoy maximum beneficial neutraceutical in every single drop of Cold Grape Seed Oil and Grape Seed Flour.

The wholesome cold pressed grape seed oil has a delicate green-golden colour and a distinctive, mild taste of grape, nuts, and fresh farm butter. In contrast, chemically extracted or isolated grape seed oil has lost a lost a substantial portion of its

beneficial antioxidant nutrients and is pale in colour. Only grape seed oils that have been cold pressed are legally permitted to state “Cold Pressed” or “ Kaltgepresst” on their labels.

ResearchProf.Jack Masquelier has dedicated 50 years of his life to discover and explore the use and benefits of OPC as a powerful antioxidant and health supplements. Numerous research references and clinical studies and tests have demonstrated the effectiveness in the prevention and treatment with OPC is a safe beneficial agent with confirmed value in the prevention of diseases and maintenance of health.

VITIS AG/ Germany presented R&D results in the first International Scientific Forum in 2002 about the Grape Seed and its miracle antioxidant OPC. The Second Scientific Forum has been held at Vitis AG/ Trittenheim in September 2004.

Today, Polyphenol among which Procyanidin (OPC) are most widely published study subjects. More critical are the use of extracts versus natural substances as Mother Nature delivers them to us. For example, in the form of Cold Pressed Grape Seed Oil and Grape Seed Flour.

In Malaysia, University Putra Malaysia, Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology, headed by Prof. Dr. Suhaila Mohammad, has recently taken up the baton with two research projects entitled ‘Anti-Cancer/ Cardiovascular health, Neutraceuticals Ingredients & Products’ and ‘Anti-Obesity/Antioxidant Activity of Grape Seed Products in Human and/or Animals’, both using Proanthocyanidins (OPC) from grape seeds for comparison, with technical support from Vitis (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and their representative Sureco Sdn Bhd. Vitis Malaysia is sponsoring a project by HUKM Hospital in Kuala Lumpur to monitor the health effects of Vitis Cold Pressed Grape Seed Oil on 20 cancer patients.
