Club Capacity & Workforce Development Grants Impact
North Alphington CC
received funding to train the
coaches and volunteers that
supported their junior girls
team in 2015/16. They have
now have an second girls
team.
IMAGE
Glen Waverley CC sought
funding to train their junior
program volunteers with
coaching and first aid. Since
2015/16 they have grown
from 6-8 junior boys and 1-2
junior girls teams.
College CC (Hamilton) used
funding for maintenance of
their turf wicket to increase
the wicket’s playing capacity.
Since 2015/16 they have
increase their number of club
teams from 6-12 teams,
including 1 girl’s and 1
women's team.
CSIF Impact – Western OvalWestern Oval received a much needed irrigation system and complementary drainage works
supporting year-round use. As many as 10 games were saved from being moved from the ground and
the facility can now host 1st grade and regional cricket, training and events.
Drought Response Grants Impact Edenhope CC
Edenhope used the Drought Response Grant in 2015/16 to lay a synthetic surface on
their concrete pitch and remove the wings. Edenhope were able to resurrect their MILO
in2CRICKET program engaging boy and for the first time, 5-10 year old girls. The club
is still running the program registering 21 participants in 2017/18.
Drought Response Grants Impact - Tempy Cricket Club
Tempy Tigers Cricket Club received
$5000 to assist with the installation of
water storage, water pump and piping
installation and electrical works.
Most of the costs were covered by
local volunteers with in-kind
contributions.
The change in the ground has
ensured that cricket can continue to
be played in this small country

Birchip CC• Birchip CC’s nets were in
complete disrepair and running
on to the playing field.
• The club raised their own funds
and in-kind support, and with a
$5000 contribution from the Club
Capacity & Workforce
Development Grants were able to
maintain cricket training at
Birchip.
• The club has two senior mens
team and these nets have
ensured that the players in this
small farming community with a
population of 600, can maintain
playing cricket.
Discussion PointsEvery Club and Association is unique for a whole range of reasons so what I will try to share
today is ways to maximise the commercial opportunity at club level.
I will explore some things that work on a National and State level plus some relevant
experiences from local clubs
• Defining Commercial
• Pillars to Explore
• The 4 R’s
• Thinking Differently
• Questions
YES
• Sponsorship/Partnership – both cash and in kind
• Functions/Events – activity both in and out of season
• Fundraising – donations, raffles, benefactors, grants
Defining Commercial
Commercial Pillars
Venue(s)
Sponsorship
Local
Government
• Right’s based – uniform branding,
signage, club and teams
• Marketing Assets – database, website,
digital channels, your members
• Fundraising and donations
• Food and Beverage
• Functions and Events
• Community Links - Finals,
Junior Hubs, Winter Sports
• Facilities &
Infrastructure
• Grants and Funding
The 4 R’s• Relationships – are critical to the success of sponsorship. People like
doing business with people they like. Network and nurture these
relationships.
• Relevance – want is unique and appealing on a local level for your
club? Your players/families/community positioning is your point of
difference so exploit these assets
• Realistic – understand the market and modify your approaches
accordingly. What can you deliver in terms of ROI for a sponsor?
• Responsibility – dedicated focus of somebody/people on the
committee. Sponsorship doesn’t just happen
STRATEGY ACTION RESULTS
Thinking Differently
• Behave like a Business – what are you doing to help your sponsor’s
business?
• More customers/store traffic
• Local database
• Group Thinking – can you work with your co-tenants? Neighbouring
clubs?
• Year round sponsorship programs regardless of code/venue
• Increased customer/participant databases
• Group purchasing power – bar, canteen, apparel, equipment
• You Don’t have to start from Scratch – build on your local IP and
knowledge
• What works for your and your club
• Access national or State programs eg: Comm Bank Grants
• 80/20 Rule
