Zombies are a growing trend these days thereis no denying that. With zombie movies, pop-ular television shows, zombie walks and runs, and zombie literature, it seems only appropriate thatthis years Te Grandstand of error in Blackfoot in-corporated the undead into their attraction.

Te haunted attraction has been an annual eventfor more than a decade, but this is the rst year it hasincluded an option for attendees to participate in aZombie Laser Apocalypse.

Sharon Hoge, the Director of Te Grandstandof error said to pull the Zombie Laser Apocalypseoff, state-of-the-art equipment was purchased. Eachzombie wears a headband that lights up when shot, but be warnedsince the undead are already dead, they can come back.

Hoge explained that to purchase a headband andlaser gun set, it cost between $700 and $800. Withzombies at every turn in the Grandstand arena, itadds up.

I really think it was an investment worth makingbecause there is nothing like it anywhere in our area, said Hoge.

Te Grandstand of error was started when Hoge visited Universal Studios in Florida with her family in2001. In honor of Halloween, the park closes in theevenings and reopens as a haunted attraction. Te ex-perience spurred an idea for Hoge and she decided tobring the idea back to Blackfoot.

Hoge is on the Board of Directors for the BlackfootCommunity Players. Te players own the historicNuart Teatre in Blackfoot and it is their goal to keepit up and running. Te theatre was build in 1929 andtakes a lot of funding to keep up and running, but thePlayers think it is worth saving. Funds earned fromTe Grandstand of error go toward making thispossible.

We love [the Nuart Teatre] and we want to doeverything we can to keep it going, said Hoge.

Tere are more than 75 actors who volunteer toscare attendees at Te Grandstand of error. All oth-er individuals who help with the attraction are also volunteers.

Hoge explained that those participating in thespooky attraction take pride in features like the Hel-levator and Draculas Drop.

Draculas Drop is bigger and better than it has everbeen this year, said Hoge. If you want to know allthe secrets you will have to come see it for yourself, but we did make it longer and more drastic.

Te Grandstand of error is a fun event, but it isnot for the faint of heart. Hoge said she wouldnt rec-ommend bringing children under 10 years old to theattraction unless your child has nerves of steel, sheadded.

In case people cant handle all the haunting, volun-teers roam different areas of the attraction and otherswatch video footage carefully to make sure all the at-tendees are okay. Hoge explained that it is not only children that have had to be escorted out.

I have taken out several adults this year becausethey were too scared, she said. It doesnt matter whatage you are some people get really freaked out. [Tisattraction] is one of the scariest in the area and webelieve it is one of the most unique because we havefeatures that no one else has.

Hoge said on the peak nights 500 to 600 people at-tend the attraction and there has never been a yearwhen they havent increased ticket sales. She said sheencourages people to come on weeknights to avoidsuper long lines and big crowds.

Te Grandstand of error is open until Oct. 31.On weeknights it is open from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. andfrom 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Regularadmission is $10, fast pass admission is $13 and toparticipate in the Zombie Laser Apocalypse the costis an additional $10.
