Grandma’s Tip of the Day: Test doneness with a butter knife by inserting it into the center of the pie. If it comes out clean the pie is finished. Homemade Unbaked Pastry Crust For 2 pies 1. Sift twice-½ cup of cake flour with 1/ tsp. of salt 2. Use two knives or pastry knife to cut 2 tblsp.cold shortening into flour mix and 1 tblsp of evaporated milk. When mix looks like coarse cornmeal roll it out onto a floured board to ⅛” thick. Place gently into pie pan and use a fork to make the design on the edges or pinch with your fingers.
