Dear Grand Hampton residents,

May is generally a busy time for most families: school projects need to be finished, summer camp and swim class dates need to be confirmed, and summer vacation dates need to be booked!Since May happens to be “National Barbecue Month” it’s a good time to get your gas grills cleaned and refueled for backyard parties! One such occasion is Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May), a day we celebrate Mexican heritage and delicious Mexican food and drinks! (There are recipes inside for you to try.)

Of course, don’t forget to give your Mom EXTRA attention on Sunday, May 12th. She will appreciate a much-needed break from her busy to-do list, and some extra hugs and kisses! (Why not make a list of all the reasons you APPRECIATE her?)

May brings us Memorial Day which occurs on Monday, May 27th. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving

in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in that war. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. (Please see the article about our local Amputee Veterans of America Support Team and how you can donate or volunteer to assist their worthy cause.)

And finally, May is “National Photograph Month”. What better time to gather together your kids, friends, and family pets for photos? Or perhaps capture lovely nature photos? Please send them in to your community magazine cover contest! (A high resolution of 300 is required for the cover).

We always look forward to your articles, photos and input,Ann MacKinnonEditor

Hi everyone, The school year is winding down and the warm weather is approaching. Thank you to everyone who attended all of our March and April events. The turnout has been amazing. Remember to get those RSVP’s in early enough. It breaks my heart to turn little ones away due to no RSVP for the events. I go shopping for the food, crafts and goodies a few days before the events and an accurate RSVP list allows me to make sure we have enough for all participating without waste. The Field Day and Cupcake Wars were a blast! We had a great time at the Chili cook-off and Spring Egg Hunt. Thank you for helping us keep the little ones safe during the huge egg hunt. Coming up in May are some more family friendly events, as usual. If there is a specific grown up only event you would like to see offered, please email me your ideas. In April we have Trivia and Karaoke will be back soon. Ladies Night is always well attended too. If the gentlemen in Grand Hampton would like Monday night football events, please let me know and we will get that underway. Have a great month!Kim CagleLifestyle [email protected]

P R E S I D E N T ' S M E S S A G ECommittees of the Grand Hampton Home Owners Association

Committees conduct important portions of our Association’s business. They have the ability to provide information, recommendations and additional assistance to our Board of Directors for the benefit of all Association members. Committees are advisory in nature and have no authority to carry out specific functions on their own accord. Advisory committees help analyze problems, review facts, gather information and alternatives, and submit their conclusions as recommendations to our Board of Directors through our Property Manager. For a committee to have authority to act and carry out duties, the committee must have been created by our Articles of Incorporation, our By-Laws, or by a resolution adopted by our Board of Directors. Committees created under the Articles or the By-Laws have specified duties and functions in the documents themselves. When a committee has been created by Board resolution, duties and functions to be performed by the committee are identified by the Board. All of our committees contribute significantly to the welfare of the entire community.

CoMMiTTee AppoinTMenTs Advisory and fact finding committees are appointed by the President or by the Board. Advisory committees have no power to act for the Board or to bind the Association in any contract or expenditure.

CoMMiTTee AuThoriTy Our Board of Directors has the power to appoint committees and to give them authority to perform certain functions. Advisory committees do not have the authority to act for or to bind the Association in any way. Advisory committees find facts, gather information, and make recommendations to the Board. The Board of Directors must ensure that the operations of the Association are carried out in the best interests of ALL the property owners and the Board is ultimately responsible for the acts of committees it creates.

CoMMiTTee MeeTings All committee meetings of the Association are open to all homeowners and residents. Although non-committee members are encouraged to attend and observe meetings, their right to participate is at the discretion of each committee’s chairperson. Advisory committees are not required to maintain formal records of their proceedings. A summary of their findings of fact or recommendations will be submitted each month to our Property Manager for transmission to the Board.

CoMMiTTee reporTs A summary of each committee’s findings, conclusions and recommendations will be submitted to the Association’s Property Manager each month for transmission to the Board of Directors. A representative of each committee should attend the Board of Director’s monthly meeting to report orally, as well. A synopsis of each committee’s report will be included in the minutes of the Board meeting at which it is presented. Upon receipt of a committee report, the Board may accept and implement recommendations, it may modify and change recommendations or it may accept them and place them in the Associations records for future action and reference. When a committee report is received at a Board meeting, it becomes part of the permanent Association record. Truly yours,Paul V. Suppicich

Established in January 2007, Amputee Veterans of America Support Team (AVAST) has grown to be one of the most recognized amputee support teams in the Tampa Bay Area. The Team consists of veterans and non- veterans who have experienced an amputation that is life changing. The organization also includes family members, friends and V.A. liaison involved in the rehabilitation of amputees. AVAST members work diligently at keeping the organization , activities and its membership growing. Members train for and have achieved the following Certifications: • Amputee Coalition of America Member and Peer Certification • Adaptive Golf Academy Peer Certification

• Veterans Administration Peer Certification This allows members to understand and assist other amputees in becoming independent and empowered individuals. The success of the organization is a statement of the dedication of the officers, advisory council and members. The AVAST amputee color guard was started in 2012. "Our purpose was to raise awareness, hope and inspiration for wounded veterans and amputees. We wanted to show the people of the community and the nation that even though

AVAST Amputee Veterans of America Support Team and Color Guard by Ann MacKinnon

you're an amputee, you can still come back and be a productive part of society," says Rudy Salas, president of AVAST, and Meadow Pointe resident. "A lot of wounded veterans returning home don't know that. The color guard is only part of what our organization does." The first Wednesday of every month, AVAST members gather at Terrace Hill Golf Club along with patients from the James Haley Veterans Memorial Hospital. They work to develop adaptive golfing skills and help coach the veterans in the game's rules and etiquette. Each day

out on the golf course is a gift to all who participate. "There are so many people responsible for our growth throughout the year; I cannot thank all of them," adds Rudy. "To all the organizations who invited us to golf tournaments, I say thank you and keep those

invitations coming!" There are a variety of ways that you can participate, help or donate. Cash or donations by check or money orders are always beneficial to assist with transportation, fees and expenses related to the outreach of our members. Send your check or money order to: AVAST, 1631 Firewheel Drive, Wesley Chapel, FL, 33543. AVAST is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The 29th annual “TASTE OF NEW TAMPA” was a huge success! I want to say Special thanks to Primrose School of Tampa Palms for hosting. The owner’s Rick and Jana Radike, truly went out of their way to accommodate the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce. They not only let us use their land, but created a fabulous kids area,

supplied volunteers, pre-sold tons of admission tickets, let us use the truck for set up and break down and so much more! The weather was not perfect, but the event went off with such greatness. The sponsors to put on this event also deserve much recognition:

New Tampa resident Allen Guy was awarded a Lightning Community Hero award at a NHL Lightning home game at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in early April. The prize includes a $50,000 grant to help the organizations in Tampa Bay that Guy supports with his time and energy. Guy was nominated by New Tampa Young Life area director Alissa Holcomb. "Allen's contribution to our organization is immeasurable," she says. "He has served

teenagers, including those with disabilities through our Capernaum program, for the last seven years with thousands of hours of volunteer work. He spends time with disabled and typical kids through our weekly Club programs, by leading our Servin' It Up community service program, and by caring for countless kids at camp, where they tell us they experience the 'best week of their life.'" Guy will designate the $50,000 grant to be divided among the organizations with

which he volunteers, including the New Tampa area of Young Life and two other New Tampa charities: Special Connections (a ministry that serves special needs children and adults based at St. James United Methodist Church) and the OASIS network (an acronym for Outreach Assisting Students in Schools, which provides necessities for underprivileged students in Hillsborough County). A portion of the award will also be designated for the Voices for Children

Guardian ad Litem program. The Tampa Bay Lightning Community Heroes initiative was launched by Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, along with his wife, Penny, in 2011. Their goal is to distribute $10 million to deserving grassroots community heroes throughout the Tampa Bay community over five years. At each of the Lightning’s regular season games, the Lightning Foundation awards $50,000 to charity. During the 2011-2012 season, a total of $2,050,000 was distributed to worthy community causes.

More information is online at http://lightning.nhl.com under the "Community" tab. Young Life is a worldwide organization for middle, high school and college students. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them – fun, adventure and friendship. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about something that we think matters most of all – the truth about God and His love for us. Founded in 1941, Young Life has more than 3,400 staff and 45,000 volunteers and is active in more than 80 countries reaching more than 1.2 million kids annually. Young Life leaders bring more than 140,000 kids each year to one of our 32 camping properties worldwide. Young Life in New Tampa serves typical teenagers and those with disabilities. Most

attend area schools, including Wharton, Freedom, and Wiregrass Ranch high schools, and Benito, Bartels, and Liberty middle schools. The Young Life and WyldLife Clubs meet at the New Tampa Family YMCA and Capernaum Club meets at St. James Church. To learn more about New Tampa Young Life, visit our website at www.newtampa.younglife.org or call 813-558-8785.

Dr. Stanley Castor, a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, has been chosen as one of the first physicians in the United States to offer New GPS Laser Lipocontrol™ Treatment - an innovative body shaping technology from Europe.

Dr. Castor's practice, Artisan Aesthetics, is one of the pioneers in the field of aesthetic medicine. "Even with dieting and exercise, many people are seeking ways to quickly and effectively remove stubborn

areas of unwanted fat," explains Dr. Castor. "Lipocontrol, the latest innovative technology to hit our shores, quickly and safely removes problem areas of fat deposits, with total control and safety." FDA-approved Lipocontrol

uses thermal energy in the form of a heat generating laser to liquefy unwanted fat and then remove the liquid fat in one easy procedure. A built-in GPS tracking system allows Dr. Castor to determine in real

time exactly how much energy is being delivered to a given area of the body and to deliver a uniform amount of energy. "This additional control guarantees a high level of safety as well as more even and smoother

results," says Dr. Castor. The entire procedure can be done in-office in one session on a number of different areas of the body including the abdomen, waist (love handles), hips and thighs, buttocks, back of arms, knees, ankles and even under the chin to remove unsightly "turkey necks." "I am truly amazed at the performance and results we are seeing from Lipocontrol," says Dr. Castor. "Hands down, this is the best minimally invasive fat removal procedure currently on the market. My patients love the results!" Dr. Castor is Board-Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He also is a member of the American

Society of Plastic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a repeat recipient of the Patients' Choice Award in recognition of the difference he has made in the lives of his patients, and was named in the 2010-2012 Guide to America's Top Surgeons by the Consumer's Research Council. "All patients are unique with individual problem areas that need to be addressed," says Dr. Castor. "I strive for the best results for each patient, while keeping their safety, comfort and well-being in mind."Artisan Aesthetics is located at 5383 Primrose Lake Circle, Suite A, in Tampa Palms. March was a fun Month for the GFWC Woman's Club of New Tampa, we put time into the community with fun projects. To start we collected art supplies for the New Tampa Family YMCA Adaptive Art Program, a basket of supplies was given to Kristen Osterman who is the teacher for the art program. These items will be put to good use in class, because on Saturday, April 27th, at Wiregrass Mall the YMCA and the GFWC New Tampa

Woman's Club will be hosting a Art Show displaying the adaptive art participants' work. Please be sure and stop by and take a look at these fine pieces. With spring in the air, members put together Easter baskets made from

recycled strawberry pint containers. This project was taken to the Head Start at MOSI where members helped the young students

put a handle on the basket and fill it with grass and fun goodies. The students loved the project and we enjoyed their faces when we showed them what they were going to do. We are also continuing with tutoring at Heritage Elementary School till the end of the year, members are enjoying helping the young kids improve their reading and math skills. This will be a ongoing project through the year.If you would like to take part in the volunteer opportunities with the GFWC Woman's Club of New Tampa, Please join us at our monthly meetings on Wednesday, April 17th or May 15th from 12-1pm at St Andrews Presbyterian Church (5340 Primrose Lake Cir, Tampa, FL 33647). We are accepting new members year round. You may email [email protected] for more information.

Fundraising All Stars This May 17, come to Freedom High School for Relay for Life New Tampa, and look for 15 women wearing pink cowboy hats. They are the Mary Kay Sisterhood. Over the past three years, this rip-roaring team has raised thousands of dollars to cure cancer. Their wine tasting in March raised $880 of the $3,147 already banked with the American Cancer Society. Quail Hollow Golf Club, Time for Wine, Jersey Mike’s and Hampton Inn stepped up to help. Bay City Bank in Lutz collected $137 in change at teller windows. If you missed that event, come to the Mary Kay Sisterhood tent during the Relay. Buy chances for a Miche bag, Mary Kay skin care basket or an MK Men’s basket. After putting in your miles, get a foot and leg rub with Mary Kay energy cream. The Sisterhood is especially

passionate because two members are cancer survivors. “It’s important for us to be there as sisters supporting each other and our faith. We have really

bonded. The Luminaria Event is really special,” said Donna Moyer, Mary Kay Sisterhood team captain. The team is offering luminaria and

dedications from now through May 1 for a $10 donation. To order a luminaria in honor or in memoriam of a loved one, call Moyer during business hours at 813-333-6668.

Sisterhood and Survivors “This lady is such a beautiful

soul and example for all of us—and she’s a survivor!” That is how Linda Omer of Wellswood describes fellow Mary Kay Sisterhood teammate Dianne Jones. Omer and Jones will both hoof it around the Freedom High School track on May 17-18 during Relay for Life New Tampa. Dianne survived stage-three colon cancer twice. Her doctor calls her his miracle patient. “I’m always so flattered when Linda says I’m an example. No matter when I speak, I believe I’m there because someone needs to hear that message. So many times people tell me thank you because they have colon cancer or because they were afraid of getting a colonoscopy. I’m especially grateful I was able to walk again with Linda last year,” Jones said. Omer, whose mother and aunts had breast cancer, walked her second Relay last year. It was the first year she walked as a breast cancer survivor. “I was walking for everyone else. As I went through treatment, I watched Dianne,” Omer added. She chose to be upbeat, brave and beautiful—continuing her Mary Kay business during her treatment. “I gave out small perfume samples

for a $5 Relay donation at a garage sale this year. You know, I made more for the Relay that I did for the garage sale!” she said.

Frills and Fun featured at Relay Sisterhood Campsite Check out the Mary Kay Sisterhood site first when you arrive at Relay for Life May 17-18 at Freedom High. There you can pick up a fashion-forward crocheted scarf for a $20-50 donation. Macy’s and high-end retailers feature identical versions. These quality scarves are handmade to order for a cause. Curing cancer is Alene Mitchell’s cause. “My father and mother-in-law both had cancer. Last year, I had to go to Moffitt Cancer Center for tests. I was so scared. I sat there and watched all these women with smiles coming and going. Some of them were very ill. I kicked myself. I said they can do it, then I can do it,” Mitchell said. “I got involved in Relay when Donna (Moyer) invited me. Now I raise money for hospice and Relay. I’m even teaching my granddaughters to crochet.” “Knitting for Life is part of our

Mary Kay Sisterhood fundraising effort and we will work on it all year long,” said Mitchell, who lives in The Oaks. One thrilled donor has ordered a baby quilt. Alene is taking orders by phone Monday through Friday during business hours at 813-951-5465.

New Tampa Pediatric Dental began serving children in the New Tampa and Pasco County areas just about one year ago; however, the practice has been serving children since 2006. The owner, Dr. Francisco Bezerra, or, “Dr. B,” as he is more commonly known by patients and parents, carried over the care for patients in the office previously provided by pediatric dentist, Dr. Anna Seo. Dr. Bezerra, originally from Brazil , and fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, prides himself in providing dental visits that are fun and educational for both the parents and the children. Graduation from the UCLA School of

Dentistry in June of 2005 was followed shortly thereafter by Dr. Bezerra’s acceptance into Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dentistry in order to attain his Pediatric Specialty degree, which he graduated with in June of 2007. Immediately after graduating as

a pediatric dental, Dr. Bezerra worked for one of the largest,

most prestigious pediatric dental groups in Arizona for three years. Becoming a pediatric dentist was what Dr. Bezerra had dreamed of since his third year at UCLA when he attended a six month dental program

where he worked with children. Dr. Bezerra has a genuine, innate love for children, since he grew up with nine brothers and sisters, and then started a family of his own, with

his wife Lilyan. Interacting with parents and offering his professional knowledge for their questions and concerns is a common contribution by Dr. Bezerra, as preventive dental care for children requires the parents to be well informed about essential diet and home care. Since fifty-three percent of children that have not been to the dentist by age 3 have tooth decay by age 5, Dr. Bezerra, along with the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend a child’s first dental visit to be right around their first birthday. You may ask, “Why so young?” Well, by establishing a dental home for your child at a young age, the pediatric dentist can help guide parents in making correct choices in diet and oral hygiene habits at home. This helps to create an ideally healthy oral health for your child, and also launches a guide to follow for both parent and child which can essentially last a lifetime. Dr. Bezerra states, “One of my goals is to not blame

parents, or not to make them feel uneasy about their parenting choices. Since I have six children of my own, I understand what it’s like to be a parent and go through the different scenarios with children when providing care for them in the home.” Along with home care and diet information, there are some concepts that parents have about bottle feeding, sippy cup usage, and pacifiers that may be incorrect, since those concepts have, in essence, been passed down through several generations. Dr. Bezerra enjoys taking the time to explain the risk of severe childhood caries with all parents so that they are well informed. When parents know about how they can take small steps at home which can help their child’s overall dental health, the parents can then reap the long-term benefits from those good choices. Ultimately, “There is a genuine gratification in a child’s eyes when I perform treatment for them. An immediate reward is received, not just by the patient, but also by their parents, and also by me. When the child feels accomplished, that feeling goes well beyond just the child; the parents and the siblings are able to share and enjoy their sense of success, too.” For an appointment please call Dr. Bezerra's office at 813-991-5300. The office is located at 2242 Ashley Oaks Circle, in the Seven Oaks Professional Park in Wesley Chapel.
