Tornado-like winds hit the clubhouse area on Sunday, June 24th during Tropical Storm Debbie, causing damage to the tennis courts.
Hello Residents, As you are aware, the Grand Hampton common areas and several homeowners suffered damage during Tropical Storm Debby. This should serve to remind all of us that the
weather can change drastically at any moment and we all need to be prepared for sudden, severe weather. The 2012 Hurricane season is off to a dramatic start, please take time this summer to create a personal hurricane plan. We all know to store a gallon of water per person per day and a week’s supply of canned or ready to eat food. Below, I have listed some other ideas to be as prepared as possible. Many resources are available online and I encourage all residents to have a plan in place. Some helpful websites are www.tampabaydisaster.org or www.tampagov.net.
Pre-Storm Planning •Videotapethecontentsofyourhome, garage and landscaping for insurance purposes. Store in a safe deposit box or other safe location.
•Updateyourcellphonecontactsto include all utility emergency numbers, insurance agents and policy numbers (including health, auto, home) and ensure your list of emergency contacts is up to date. •Keepa30-daysupplyofnecessary prescription medication on hand at all times, and include the pharmacy phone number and physicians numbers in your phone. •Identifyasafeareainyourhomefor shelter in the event of a tornado, a room without windows on the lower level is best, like a closet or interior bathroom. •Understandyourinsurance
policy, know what will be covered and how much your deductible will be ahead of time. When a Storm is Approaching:
•Fillclean2-literbottles with water and freeze. In the event of a prolonged period without power, you will have additional ice to keep refrigerated items from spoiling and once melted, drinking water.•Fillyourcarwithgas and get cash from the ATM.•Prepareanemergency box, some additional items to include: Important documents sealed inside Ziploc bags, flashlights, extra batteries, disposable
camera to document damage for

A Briter Smile Dental Care Your Partners
in Dental Health A Briter Smile Dental Care, located at the corner of Bruce B. Downs and County Line Rd, offers excellent family dental care in a friendly atmosphere, with dentists who know how important dental health is and who strive to meet your specific needs. Dr. Eskandari attended Howard University College of Dentistry and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1997. She completed a general residency program at Hillsborough County Dental Research Clinic and has been in practice since 1999. Dr. Shayes originally attended Shiraz University School of Dental Medicine and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1995. He later attended Nova Southeastern in Ft.
Lauderdale and earned his DMD degree in 2000. The husband and wife team first met each other at a dental convention and started working together in 2001. A Briter Smile Dental Care is their second and newest location. Their other location is in Trinity where they have been serving the community since 2004.
Dr. Eskandari says that cosmetic dentistry, such as full crowns or
Invisalign (clear braces), is one of her favorite parts of her job. “A total makeover, when you see patients smile who haven’t smiled in a while, is very rewarding. Many people cover their mouth with their hand or won’t open their mouth to smile because of the way their teeth look. Then after they gain confidence, they bring that into the workplace or even into their social life.”
A Briter Dental Care offers discounted in-house specials that are many times better than most
conventional insurance plans, saving their patients money. Many times Dr. Eskandari and Dr. Shayes can save patients between 15 – 20 percent on their treatments. Dr.
Shayes explains that many times insurance companies have limitations to their policies, and the dentists don’t want patients to go without having their dental health needs met. The two dentists offer flexible hours, which includes Saturday appointments and same-day emergency visits. A Briter Smile Dental Care wants to be your family dentist.
A Briter Smile Dental Care is located at 20729 Center Oak Drive at the corner of Bruce B. Downs and
County Line Rd. They accept most major insurances and can be reached at 813-907-1222. Please call or visit www.mynewtampadentist.com for more information. v

New Tampa Teen Represents Florida at National “Geo-Bee”
Maya Patel, an 8th grader had the proud honor of representing Tampa, and the state of Florida at the National Geographic Bee held in Washington D.C. on May 22nd. The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest in which over 4 million students participate. The students have to be well-versed in a variety of subjects in addition to being experts on maps. For example, students were asked “In January 2012, experts announced that a new island had formed as a result of underwater volcanic activity. This new island is located in the Red Sea west of what country that borders Saudi Arabia?” The correct answer, in case you didn’t know, is Yemen. Maya’s journey to Washington started several months ago, when her school administered the school bee in November 2011. Every student in 6th, 7th and 8th grade took part in it, which comes out to over 1,100 students. After several rounds of elimination, Maya became the school champion. Next, she took a written test, which had 70 questions, and she competed against the school bee winner of every school in Florida that chose to participate. From around 900 schools that took part, only 100 are invited to Jacksonville to compete in the state bee. In Jacksonville, after several hours of intense questioning, Maya was crowned the State bee winner. At this time, she received a trophy, a $100 Gift certificate and many other prizes. She also won a free all expense trip to Washington
D.C. for her and her teacher, as well as two plane tickets for her parents. Six weeks later, it was time to go to Washington D.C. Maya has spent many years studying for this contest and dreaming of coming to the Nationals. There were 54 students invited to the National. After the first round of questioning, Maya had only missed one, so she had an 8 out of 9. Then she moved to next round, which was even more difficult. The rounds continued until they had the top 10 students, Maya finished at 13. She was a bit sad about that, but certainly still very thrilled to be representing Liberty Middle School at our nation’s capital. The rest of the trip was very exciting, a lot of siteseeing and the highlight was a chance to meet Alex
Trebek, who was the moderator for the final rounds, whichwereshownonNationalTV. The experience was enhanced by the fact that she was escorted to Washington DC by one of her favorite teachers, Ms. Questell. Her other favorite, Mr. Meshbesher was not able to attend. What a way to end her 3 years at Liberty! v
