7/30/2019 Grand Ground Designs Competition
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/grand-ground-designs-competition 1/2
The rst phase o re-developing sites within the Campus
ocuses on the land alongside and behind the main Astrotur
(Tipperlinn pitch). Although on the Senior School side o the
campus, what is created now will be or the benet o those
in the Junior School and I am keen to stress that I would like
Junior School pupils and parents to be equally involved.
The diagrams overleaf detail the space you have to work with.
In designing these spaces think about:
•
Who will use this space? Pupils, Parents, Spectators?• Will the eatures you design be aesthetic (sculptures,
designer gardens), practical (benches, tables, shelters,
rereshment huts), or a combination o both?
• Will you use reclaimed, or recyclable materials?
• Will you use lighting or new technologies or your eatures?
• How will your designs look through the changing seasons?
Will you be able to use them in winter? What will they look
like in summer?
• How will nature and weather change your eatures?
• Will you create a space that can be changed every ew
years, will you have permanent xtures?
• Can you promote a more diverse ecology rather than grass
and tarmac?
• Would you want to create dierent atmospheres, quiet
zones, areas or outdoor perormances or meetings?
For your design use:

painting, collage, photography, computer-aided design) to
make your piece. Submissions can be electronic, models

We really want your involvement
I you have a single idea, or think o something that would be
great or only part o the land, then please submit these as
well. We will be harnessing all the great ideas into a design, that will be fexible so its really important to communicate
your thoughts (even i it is just an email!). I you would like to
submit an entry as part o a group, that’s ne as well.
The judging panel will consist o members across the School
community.
We do not want budgets to inhibit ideas or designs at this
stage but consideration or limiting expenditure would be
appreciated.
The Prize… well, the prize is to see your ideas and creations
turned into real eatures. I would hope this would bring rewardand satisaction in itsel with recognition o your achievement
on a plaque or in-built somewhere in the design.
The competition is open to the whole George Watson’s
community. I you eel that you can contribute to any part
o the creative or construction stages or i you would like
any urther inormation, then please contact mysel in the
rst instance ([email protected]).
All submissions should be addressed or emailed to mysel.
The closing date or the competition is January 18 2013.
I look orward to viewing your creative ideas and thank you
in advance or participating in this project.
Kind regards
Gareth Warren
