In the spirit of cooperation, Arizona’s electric cooperatives formed Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association Inc. in 1950. The primary purpose was to create a nonprofi t, nonpartisan group to give Arizona’s electric cooperatives a unifi ed voice in state and national regulatory and legislative matters.

Resource-pooling and cost-sharing by our members have combined to help make GCSECA a strong, effi cient statewide organization.

In addition to our legislative programs, GCSECA off ers safety and loss control training; regulatory assistance; an annual education program; special project workshops; an electronic monthly newsletter, Current Activities, distributed to electric cooperative offi cials; and a bimonthly magazine, Currents, mailed to electric cooperative consumers throughout Arizona.

2. Democratic Member Control. Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions.

3. Members’ Economic Participation. Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of their cooperative.

4. Autonomy and Independence. Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members.

5. Education, Training and Information. Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives.

6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives. Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together.
