Negative Commands
Informal Affirmative Commands
• Commands may be informal or formal, singular or plural.
• Use the present tense of the verb when its singular or formal affirmative command.
• Verbs are stem changing or changing in spelling, present tense, usually use the same stem change in informal singular commands.
Irregular Affirmative Tú Commands
• Decir• Ir• Salir• Tener• Hacer• Poner• Ser• Venir
• Di• Ve• Sal• Ten• Haz• Pon• Sé• Ven
Negative Commands
Telling Someone What Not To Do
Ud. Y Uds.
• Negative Ud. And Uds. Commands or negative nosotros/as commands are the same for affirmative command but no in front of the verb.
• One exception negative nosotros/as command for ir; ¡Vamos!-- ¡No Vayamos!
Tú
• The negative tú command is formed by adding an –s and placing no before the verb.
Object and Reflixive Pronouns
• For negative commands, these must go before the verb.
• When put in the same verb, the indirect object pronoun will go before the direct object pronoun.
