February 19, 2014 Kappa Kappa Psi Southwest District Council To whom it may concern: My name is Graham Delafield and I am writing to apply for the position of Southwest District President With over four years of invaluable experience at the Delta chapter and over half a term as Southwest District Vice President, I feel that I possess the qualities, characteristics, and skills to not only adequately serve on the council, but to benefit the district as a whole. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma and I plan on graduating with honors in the spring of 2016. Since being initiated into the fraternity in the spring of 2012, I have served in several capacities on the local and district level. I have held two of the top offices in the Delta chapter: Vice President of Membership and Recording and Corresponding Secretary. During my time as Vice President of Membership I guided three honorary brothers through initiation, rewrote and improved the Delta chapter MEP, planned rush, recruitment and education processes, and ushered in the largest ever Delta rush class of 27 members. Seeing the need for improvement in our office of secretary, I set out to devote my efforts there. When'it'comes'to'being'on'the'district'council,'things'are'often'romanticized.'We'believe'that'any'one'member'can'come'in'year'after'year,'implement'any'projects'he'or'she'sees'fit,'and'do'something'impactful'within'the'confines'of'the'year.'In'all'honesty,'that'is'very'difficult'–'if'not'impossible.'When'it'comes'to'projects'that'I'would'pursue'as'President,'I'want'to'view'them'in'terms'of'importance&and&continuance.'We'should'isolate'areas'of'need'within'the'district'and'create'projects'that'aid'those'areas.'But'not'only'this;'every'project'that'takes'place'within'the'council'needs'to'be'created'with'the'future'in'mind.'We'need'to'insist'on'projects'that'can'be'continued'for'years'and'years.'Only'if'the'projects'are'carried'on'will'we'see'the'true'benefits'of'what'we'are'doing'today.'Otherwise'the'council'will'have'wasted'a'years'worth'of'work'to'establish'something'that'will'disappear'the'next'year.'To'combat'this,'I'have'some'ideas'that'are'based'on'need'and'the'ability'to'survive'from'year'to'year.'&Participation&Across&Chapters&

' The'reason'I'believe'this'is'a'worthwhile'project'is'because'it'is'so'easy'for'individual'chapters'to'become'isolated'and'restrict'themselves'to'just'focusing'on'themselves.'There'is'nothing'wrong'with'this,'but'if'we'are'one'fraternity,'why'not'act'like'it?'Sure'we'all'see'other'chapters'at'football'games,'or'at'district'events'such'as'CLC'and'workshops,'but'those'occurrences'were'going'to'happen'one'way'or'another.'If'we'actively'pursued'opportunities'that'allowed'us'to'share'our'brotherhood'with'one'another,'we'would'be'all'the'better'for'it.'

Another'idea'I'have'grown'fond'of'is'the'idea'of'creating'a'fundraiser'that'goes'to'a'cause.'I'know'we'have'no'control'over'the'entire'fraternity,'but'indulge'me'for'one'moment.'If'the'entire'fraternity'added'one'dollar'to'its'dues,'we'could'collect'upwards'of'$12,000'over'the'course'of'one'biennium.'(This'is'based'on'the'

' As'it'stands,'the'southwest'district'has'a'database'that'holds'several'lessons'over'specific'aspects'of'the'MEP.'Any'membership'educator'–'or'any'other'member'who'wishes'–'is'able'to'access'this'database.'It'provides'unique'perspectives'on'education'and'well'developed'lesson'plans'that'can'be'employed'by'anyone.'What'if'we'had'a'database'for'every'office?'We'could'have'a'database'for'rush'events,'service'ideas,'chapter'bonding'activities,'fundraising'ideas,'and'practically'anything'we'can'think'of.'Right'now,'Tau'Beta'Sigma'has'such'resources'available,'but'we'do'not.'This'is'such'a'practical'idea'that'is'applicable'to'everyone'and'can'be'added'to'year'after'year.'

February 23, 2015 To Whom It May Concern: My name is Andrew Ross and I am currently the president of the Delta Chapter at the University of Oklahoma. It is with immense pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of the Delta chapter for Graham Delafield for the position of Southwest District President. Graham possesses the qualifications to not only perform the duties of president, but to go above and beyond at helping to make the Southwest District the best that it can be. In the chapter, Graham has been very active and has made many contributions to the success of the chapter. Starting sophomore year, he contributed to the planning of Big/Little, which is when the newest membership candidate class finds out who their big is in the other organization. In Graham�s following year, he served our chapter as the Vice President of Membership. As VPM, he ushered in our largest rush class to date and developed creative lesson plans, some of which are used as a model for the district. He was also one of few VPMs to retain all of the original membership candidates throughout the process. This reflects well on Graham's guidance through the process. At the end of the year he received one of our outstanding brother awards, which are given to members who best exemplify the characteristics of a brother. Currently, Graham serves our chapter as secretary and has already done great things with the position. He ensures that chapter is aware of events going on throughout the semester, and reaches out to chapters of the universities we visit for football games. He does a great job at showing us the importance of being active not only in the chapter but in the district and nation. Some of his bigger projects this semester have been establishing a pen pal relationship with chapters outside of the district and also sending out cards to every chapter in the nation. He has been an important driving force in encouraging district workshop attendance among the chapter. Graham has also published an article for The New Alto and was part of the district wide membership education program that was made as a model for other chapters. Graham�s active participation and contributions to our chapter and district displays his dedication to this brotherhood. He exemplifies the qualities of a brother to the highest degree and is a role model for the chapter. This will translate well on the district level. Graham would make a great addition to the district council and I know that he will strive for the highest and succeed in every aspect of the position.
