CONGRATULATIONS Laura Henkhaus (HLEC Pro- gram, Dr. Lakdawalla, advisor) gave three presentations this month! Laura gave a podium talk titled, "The Child Left Behind: Parental Incarceration and Adult Human Capital" at the Allied So- cial Science Associations Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA on January 4th. Laura had two presentations at the Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Re- search in San Francisco, CA. Laura presented a poster titled, The Lasting Consequences of Childhood Sexual Abuse on Hu- man Capital" on January 19th and the 2nd presentation was a podi- um talk titled, "Childhood Abuse and Adult Health" on January 20, 2019. Larry Rodriguez (PSCI Program, Dr. Davies, advisor) has been invited to join the ASPET Mentor- ing Network: Coaching for Career Development Program for 2019- 2020. Anh Truong (PSCI Program, Dr. MacKay, advisor) passed his qual- ifying exam on Thermo- Responsive Estrogen Receptor- Fusions for Control of Signaling and Gene Regulation. Anh will be the course coordinator for the upcoming Tokyo University Phar- macy and Life Science Visiting Scholars' Program. His responsi- bilities will include teaching 2 small lectures and running a discussion session for the program. NEWS School of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical & Translational Sciences Graduate Program Interview Weekend, Friday-Saturday, February 1–2, 2019: Top prospective applicants for PHTS will be invited for an on-campus interview and have the opportunity to listen to faculty research presentations, and participate in a campus tour, a graduate student poster session and dinner. Applicant interviews will be on Friday, February 1st. Prospective students will have the opportunity to mingle with faculty and graduate students during the poster session on Friday, February 1st at 4:00 pm. The program will end on Saturday with a social event that includes an excursion of Old Town Pasadena with current graduate students. For more information contact email [email protected]. ANNOUNCEMENTS Calm Your Anxiety Workshops, every Tuesday, 12 - 1 pm: In this anxiety workshop participants will think about their anxiety in new ways, learn numerous Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques and engage in self-reflection to allow participants to manage their anxiety symptoms. Location: Norris Healthcare Center (HC3)- Located behind the Eric Cohen Student Health Center Room: 340A Health and Wellness Suite B (4 th floor). Drop in workshops are open to all USC students. No registration required. Emotional Emancipation Circle (ECC), held last Wednesday of every month, 5 - 7pm: EECs are a collaboration between the Community Healing Network and the Association of Black Psychologists. The purpose of the circles is to have a safe space for persons of African ancestry to share truths of how we have internalized the lie of Black inferiority and/or dealt with expressions of othersand societys belief in Black inferiority. The manifestation of this belief can appear in various ways as students, including feeling like an imposter in comparison to your peers, trying to disprove the belief that Black people are unintelligent and lazy, holding a negative body image, incessant comparison to non-Black peers, feeling as if you have to represent your racial group at all times, and many more experiences that will be identified and explored within the circle. Mindfulness for Stress Reduction Group, every Tuesday, 12 - 1 pm: Tannaz Alagheband, LCSW will be offering a 6- week Mindfulness Group focused on Stress Reduction starting on January 29 th . The group focuses on developing and cultivating mindfulness skills to regulate responses to stress and enhance resiliency to face lifes challenges. Students will learn skills to bring awareness, presence and self-compassion to relationship with themselves and others. Each week, students will engage in a different mindfulness meditation practices and have an opportunity to discuss their experience with the group. While students are participating in the group, they are encouraged to apply learned mindfulness skills to their daily life to experience the full benefits of the group. Location: CHP Room 221.
