Camps ∗ Parties ∗ Classes Two Rules of Play-Well Camp

1) Have Fun! This is the most important rule. We take it very seriously! :-)

2) Have Respect.

Respect each other. Respect the instructor. Respect the room. Respect the LEGO.

The Requests jbd Initial your child in and out every day. Help us keep our engineers safe!

Please be on time for drop-off and pickup. Doing so helps our instructors run a great program! We need your help in keeping all of our students happy and healthy. Please only bring healthy children to class; if your child is starting to get sick, we ask that they stay at home until healthy and talk with the area manager about pro-rating for the missed days. Bring a peanut-free snack. We will have time for your munchkin to have a snack break. If youʼd like to see what your little engineer has worked on, please come 30-45 minutes early. However, we may kindly ask you to step out of the room when cleanup starts, as visiting with mom or dad is often more exciting than cleaning up. If you canʼt come early, consider giving your child a disposable camera to take pictures of their creations. Talk to us. If you have a problem, question or concern about our class, or if your child isnʼt having fun, we want to help. If our instructors canʼt help resolve the issue, they will give you the phone number of someone who can. Please talk to your child about being well-behaved. Let the instructor know what he or she can do to make sure your child has a great camp experience and please speak with the instructor if your child has special needs of any kind. We rarely need to ask someone to leave our program, but for severe or repeated disruptions, we may end the problem by removing them from camp.

The Notes

We donʼt provide LEGO® materials to take home. Instead of sending home plastic, weʼd like your child to come home with a greater understanding of engineering and a smile. If you visit our website, www.play-well.org/lego-materials.shtml, you can find out what parts you need to bring the Play-Well experience home. For bathroom breaks, students from ages 5 to 6 will be escorted to the bathroom entrance by staff. Students from ages 7 and up will use the buddy system.

Thank you and Play Well!

For bathroom breaks, students are escorted to the bathroom by a counselor and go one at a time.

Meet Your Instructor:

Justin Kaiser

Background/ Relevant Experience: My first job was grading assignments for a Video Game class. I impressed the professor with my "Frogger" assignment where I replaced the cars with ninja hurling throwing stars. Since graduating with a degree in Psychology, I worked on various research studies exploring social development of kids and young adults.

What is your favorite thing about working with Play-Well? I enjoy seeing a kid's imagination come to life. I like watching kids take creative risks and seeing how they learn from their own play experience. Working with LEGO keeps them engaged in this process from warm-up to pick-up.

What is your favorite project? I absolutely love the "mini-golf" project because it allows kids to generate their own electricity to swing the club, and they get to create fun obstacles and add a theme to the project based on movies, books, or video games they like.

What were you like as a kid? I was an energetic and boisterous kid. I enjoyed the theater, telling jokes, and performing magic tricks. However, playing with LEGO would allow me to quietly focus inward and be the engineer and architect of my own little world.

What are you geeky about? I spend a lot of my free time designing and play testing my own board games, and I love rolling dice that have more than six sides.
