Day 1:
ELA
Reading - • Read and answer questions for the article “Malala Yousafzai”• Read for at least 30 minutes- if you do not have books at
home, you can go on websites like Epic and RazKids (you have free access)
Word Work - • Review and practice using prefixes dis-, non-, and un-• Remember- prefixes change the meaning of the root or
base word• BONUS: pick 5 words and create your own sentences. Make
sure to re-read your sentence out loud to make sure it makes sense!

Malala Yousafzai Writing Assignment
Question: How has Malala Yousafzai proved herself to be an influential public figure? Use information from the article “Malala Yousafzai” and the YouTube video where Ms. Lebedda read the biography Malala: Activist for Girls’ Education to support your answer. A graphic organizer has been provided in order for you to take notes from both sources of information. Remember, your response should include information from both the article and the book. Please look at the check-list below in order to self-check your writing. Your writing should include what is outlined in the list.
Writing Checklist
Structure Your response is organized into at least 2 paragraphs. You include topic sentences, transitions to introduce your evidence and thoughts, and indentations to indicate the start of a paragraph.
Text Evidence You include a mix of accurate quotations and discussion of events in your own words. You should have at least 3 pieces of evidence to support your answer. You use both the article and the YouTube video to support your answer.
Mechanics: Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation
You included correct punctuation including quotation marks, commas and periods. You did your best to spell words correctly. You used correct grammar (you read your response out loud to make sure it sounded correct)
Editing You fixed anything in your writing that you did not include.
Graphic Organizer
Your notes should be about how Malala proved she is an influential public figure. You should have at least 2 details for each source.
