Focus: Persuasive Text We are learning how to state an opinion. Focus: Multiplication We are learning to look for patterns and use multiplication facts to solve problems. Focus: Student Voice We are learning to choose activities that appeal to our interest and ability. Success Criteria Success Criteria Success Criteria Success Criteria I can summarise a text. I can include specific details in my summary. I can write my opinion on a given topic. I can state 3 reasons to support my opinion. I can use my knowledge of ‘skip counting’ to solve problems. I can recall multiplication facts of two, three, five and ten to solve problems. I can choose and independently complete an activity that interests me. I can choose 2 to 3 activities that interest me and complete them independently. Task Task Task Task Read for 15 minutes independently – You can read a book of your choice from home, or a story from Sunshine Online, Reading Eggs/Eggspress or Kids News. After independently reading a text of your choice, answer the following questions in your workbook. 1. What is the title of the story? 2. Who are the characters and who is the MAIN character? 3. What did the main character want? 4. What was the problem? 5. How did the character try to solve the problem? 6. What was the resolution to the problem (story ending)? Today we will explore a new persuasive topic ‘Reading is better than computer games?’ Firstly, you will need to decide if you agree or disagree with the topic. Once you have decided which side you want to go with, write 1 sentence telling the reader your opinion. State 3 reasons to support your opinion. . WARM UP: Play the Skip Counting game https://www.abcya.com/games/number_bubble_skip_counting You can practise counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s or 10s. Your choice. Good luck! ACTIVITY: Today we are going to use our knowledge of skip counting, or if you feel confident, you can use known multiplication facts to help solve some multiplication word problems. For example, if I had 4 bags of oranges and there are 5 oranges in each bag, I could work out how many oranges I have altogether by either skip counting by 5s four times (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20) to work out there are 20 oranges altogether. Or, if I already know my 5 times tables automatically, I could write the multiplication fact 5 x 4 = 20. Use which ever method works for you. Now use the At the Supermarket worksheet (see below) to solve the problems. If you can’t print the worksheet, just write your answers in your workbook. Teachers like to allow students to voice their ideas and opinions, and to discuss the way they learn best. This is called ‘Student Voice’. To be active and engaged learners, students like to choose activities that they feel really interest them or relate to their skills or capabilities. For this reason, we have attached a really fun activity grid with 65 Fun Things to Do at Home (see separate document). We are inviting students to look at the range of activities and pick one that excites them or one that they feel confident to complete. Feel free to complete as many as you like, if you have extra time this week.
