Grade 1 Theme Programme (Mini-beasts)
Song
The ants go marching one by one, Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one, Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stopped to suck his thumb,
And they all went marching down around town,
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Two by two, the little one stopped to tie his shoe,
Three by three, the little one stopped to climb a tree,
Four by four, the little one stopped to shut the door,
Five by five, the little one stopped to scratch his thigh,
Six by six, the little one stopped to pick up sticks,
Seven by seven, the little one stopped to visit heaven,
Eight by eight, the little one stopped to slam the gate,
Nine by nine, the little on said, “I’m behind”
Ten by ten, the little one said “This is the end!”

We are searching for some minibeasts,
There must be some, or one at least!

Now I wonder where we should look..

Remember to look underneath.
We might find a Bumblebee having its lunch,
There it is, going, Munch, Munch, Munch!

I’ve caught a little bumblebee
Ouch It stung me!

It’s cool and dark under the turf.
We might find a worm having a wriggle,
It’s dived into the soil going wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.
Song All: I am a worm (pg 58 Sound Start) Or Wiggely Woo? Have Powerpoint

Let’s look on the ground...
Can we see any mounds?
We might find some ants who are in a hurry,
The walk in line going scurry, scurry, scurry!
Song All: Busy little ant (pg 130 Sound start)
I’m a busy busy busy busy busy little ant!
I hurry hurry hurry to and fro with
a lot a lot a lot al lot a lot of things to do,
So I’m always, always, always on the go.
I’m a busy busy busy busy little ant!
Oh! Can’t you can’t you can’t you can’t you see?
Now you mustn’t mustn’t mustn’t mustn’t ever try
to talk and talk and talk and talk with me.
You think because I’m tiny,
You think because I’m small that I’m of no importance at all!
Hmm?
But I am very busy, I have many things to do,
Yes indeed I have,
Just the same as you!
So you must never, never, never, never, never, worry me!
Don’t ever ever stop me on my way.
I’m a busy busy busy busy busy little ant! I
definitely have no time to stop and play!
Oh no, no, no, no, n, no, time today.

Let’s look in the long grass...
It tickles as we brush past.
We might find a spider at home in its web,
Dingling and dangling on a long thread!
Songs All: Eensy-Weensy Spider (pg 9 Sound start ; pg 20 Sharom, lois and brom)
Eensy weensy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain,
And Eensy, weensy spider went up the spout again.
The big fat spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain,
Then the big fat spider went up the spout again.
The teensy weensy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain,
Then the teensy weensy spider went up the spout again.

Song:
I can see a nasty spider (pg 115 Sound start)
1H
I can see a nasty spider creeping up on me
He says he’s going to gobble me up and have me for his tea
He says he will but he won’t
He says he will but he won’t
I know because my daddy says so!
1S
I caught a big brown furry caterpillar
Put him in a box one day
Soon he’s gonna fly away
I wish he wouldn’t but he will (x2)
I know, cause my teacher says so
1F
Moley moley in your holey why are you so shy
I wish you’d come and be my friend
Oh moley won’t you try
I wish he would but he won’t (x2)
I know, cause my mommy says so.
1M
Swallow, swallow sweeping swallow
Flying oh so high
I wish that I could fly with you
And follow you through the sky.
I wish I could but I can’t (x2)
I know cause my feathers won’t grow.
All
I can see a nasty spider
Creeping up on you
He says he’s going to gobble you up
And have you in his stew
He says he will and he will (x2)
I know because he told me so!
Poem: Bug chant
Red bugs, bed bugs, find them on your head bugs.
Green bugs, mean bugs, lanky, long and lean bugs,
Pink bugs, sink bugs, swimming in your drink bugs.
Yellow bugs, mellow bugs, lazy little fellow bugs.
White bugs, night bugs, buzzing round the light bugs.
Black bugs, slack bugs, climbing up your back bugs.
Blue bugs, good bugs, find them in your shoe bugs.
Thin bugs, fat bugs, hiding in your hat bugs,
Big bugs, small bugs, crawling on your wall bugs.
Smooth bugs, hairy bugs, flying like a fairy bugs,
Fierce bugs, tame bugs, some without a name bugs.
Far bugs, near bugs, “Whats this over here?” Bugs.
Song Bugs go wild, simply wild, over me (pg 29 sonsense nongs)
Bugs go wild, simply wild, over me,
I’m referring to the bedbugs and the fleas.
Every morning, noon, and night all the
Bugs how they do bite,
Bugs go wild, simply wild, over me.
In the morning on my pillowcase
A daddy-long-legs stares me in the face,
In my underpants and shoes they
Assemble for a snooze,
Bugs go wild, simply wild, over me.
When I sit down to rest on a hike,
There are ants running left, running right,
There are spiders in my hair and
Mosquitoes everywhere,
Bugs go wild, simply wild, over me.
Poem:
Ladybug lady bug
Ladybug! Ladybug!
Fly away home,
Your house is on fire
And your children all gone.
All except one,
And her name is Ann,
She crept under the frying pan.
Hey Pollywiggle (loose sheet)
Hey Pollywiggle and hey Pollywog,
One of these days I’ll be a frog,
I’ll kick my legs and swim around without a splash and never a sound.
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
Hey Pollywiggle and hey Pollywog,
One of these days I’ll be a frog,
I’ll keep a watch with froggy eyes and catch a lot of scrumptious flies.
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
I think I’ll join a froggy band, I have the best voice in the land,
And i will sing especially clear, When a lovely lady frog is near.
Hey Pollywiggle and hey pollywog,
One of these days I’ll be a frog,
And should there be a moon above, You’ll hear me sing this song of love.
Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa) Oom! (kwa kwa)
