MarketInG ManaGeMent – a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month semesters (laptop required). This program is designed for university and college graduates with a degree or diploma in business or a related field who wish to broaden their skills-base in all functional areas of marketing. Students interact with marketing as a broad set of activities and decisions that must be made about a product or service to satisfy customer needs. Students develop skills in a number of specialized marketing disciplines, including new media marketing, event marketing, market research, direct marketing, and web design. In addition, a course in search engine marketing prepares students to pursue Google designations. Small classes and real-life issues from community organizations help students learn and apply practical skills demanded by today’s dynamic businesses. Graduates have career opportunities in search engine marketing, sales, marketing research, advertising and promotion, event planning, direct marketing, database marketing, promotions, brand management, and media sales.

ProFeSSIonal FInancIal ServIceS– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month semesters. This program is designed to leverage a university or college credential by providing a fast track to a career as a professional financial planner. An intensive curriculum prepares graduates to provide clients with professional advice to build wealth and ensure financial security through setting goals, managing finances, minimizing tax, managing life’s risks, and building investment portfolios. The curriculum focuses on the Certified Financial Planner® CFP®, with the CFP designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. Students also have the opportunity to complete the Canadian Securities Course® CSC® and Life Licensing Qualification Program. Upon successful completion of the program and external examinations, graduates are well equipped with skills and credentials to enter a wide variety of careers in banking, investment, insurance, credit, and financial planning.

huMan reSourceS ManaGeMent– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month semesters (laptop required). Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits, and labour relations. Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) credits. (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) Beyond the core curriculum, the program also offers courses in human resources information systems (HRIS), Canadian employment law, management of strategic HR projects, and professional communications. A unique experiential learning opportunity is available to select students through the HR Community Consultancy offered in the final semester of the program.

InternatIonal BuSIneSS ManaGeMent– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month-semesters (laptop required). Students will develop the skills to effectively investigate, analyze, manage, and direct most aspects of international trade. Students work with real businesses, helping small and medium exporters capitalize on global opportunities, as preparation for various careers in the ever-expanding global economy. Professors have relevant and practical expertise in international trade, investment, marketing, finance, and business management. Graduates will receive an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in International Business Management and, upon meeting FITT criteria on two major projects sent for external grading, a Diploma in International Trade from the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT). Graduates who then work for one year in international business and meet other FITT criteria can subsequently earn the Certified International Trade Professional designation (CITP).

Audio PosT-ProduCTion– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program offering students advanced techniques in digital audio recording and editing for studio and video. This program is for students interested in working in sound for film and television, recording studios, production houses and other sound-related industries.

BroAdCAsT JournAlism - televISIon newS– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program preparing graduates for a career in television news. The main focus is hands-on assignments including shooting, editing, producing and writing television news stories. Graduates work as TV journalists, videographers, producers, editors and news directors.

conteMPorary MedIa: theory and ProductIon– a four-year collaborative degree program in which graduates earn a four year Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Film Studies from Brock University and an Ontario College Graduate Certificate from Fanshawe College. This program is intended to produce students who are articulate, informed and critically aware of the roles of various contemporary media. Once students complete the full first year at Brock University, successful students are considered for admission into the Degree/Graduate Certificate program. At Fanshawe College, students must choose an area of study for the Graduate Certificate in one of three areas: Advanced Filmmaking, Broadcast Journalism – Television News or Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media.

InteractIve MedIa SPecIalISt– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two semesters, provides intensive training in new media technologies with an emphasis on website design, interactive media and emerging technologies. The curriculum will combine courses in design, marketing and media management while incorporating technology from Adobe, Discreet, Macromedia, etc. Graduates will be prepared to work as designers, programmers, producers, art directors, technical leads and project managers.

vISual eFFectS and edItInG For conteMorary MedIa– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program focusing on video editing and animation. Students learn about graphics, animation and visual effects using emerging technologies and software. The collaborative learning environment means you’ll be working on productions with students from other programs to get the feel of a real work environment. Graduates work as editors, compositors or animators in the television and film industries.

CoMMuniCation PrograM

corPorate coMMunIcatIon and PuBlIc relatIonS– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to prepare college and university graduates to work in corporate communications. Students hone writing, presentation, desktop publishing and web design skills and face public relations and ethics challenges that will increase their communication-related skills. A second-term work placement gives students a chance to put their skills to use. Graduates are employed in advertising and PR agencies, hospitals and health care, banking and insurance, the arts and media, small and large manufacturers, government, politics and the not-for-profit sector.

ConteMPorary Media PrograMs

3d anIMatIon and character deSIGn– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program will build upon the student’s prior technical knowledge acquired from his/her fine art, media or design education. Successful graduates will master all skills needed to create 3D animated characters and animated short films including: life drawing and storyboarding, 3D modeling and animation, shaders, texture mapping and lighting, character design, video editing and audio effects. Concept development, team work, strategic planning and project management will be integral components of this dynamic two-term program.

advanced FIlMMakInG– a 45-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program that builds on your degree or diploma skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films and television productions. All aspects of digital filmmaking and video, including pre-production, production and post-production are covered. Graduates will be trained to work as independent filmmakers or to work with film or TV production companies as writers, producers, directors or in project management, marketing or distribution.

eMerGency ManaGeMent– in this 19-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, graduates are engaged in activities in the area of emergency and disaster management. The program reflects the work that emergency managers must be able to perform on a regular basis within the framework of appropriate emergency management legislation. Students will be equipped with the necessary skills to address key areas of emergency management from disaster preparedness, coordination and management of emergency events escalating to catastrophes, hazards, risk assessment, terrorism, mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. This program is delivered in a blended in-class/online delivery format for students who can commit one day per week in-class and who are also self-motivated to complete the extensive online learning that is required. Graduates would obtain positions within the business/industry and public sectors. Positions are likely to be found in larger companies and municipalities, with duties relating to emergency management planning and liaising with community partners.

MaGnetIc reSonance IMaGInG– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed for the practicing Medical Radiation Technologist in the Nuclear Medicine Radiography or Radiation Therapy discipline who wishes to expand their career to include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Graduates of this program will be prepared to write the MRI National Certification Examinations as set by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). A Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist is a valuable member of the health care team who uses non-invasive magnetic fields and radiofrequency pulses to produce high quality images to aid in the diagnoses of disease and injury. After a two semester didactic delivery, the student will commence a 16-week clinical practicum at an affiliated hospital site. The clinical practicum will then be concluded with a two-week intensive consolidation and review on-campus, to prepare the student for their certification exams. While the contact hours will be compressed in this fashion, the student will be expected to commit to rigorous independent study, with assigned readings, collaborative group work, online discussions and assignment submissions comprising a significant component of the educational experience.

GeoGraPhIc InForMatIon SySteMS (GIS)– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in eight intensive months, will prepare students for employment in a wide range of land-based industries that utilize spatial and tabular data. This program is project-based, software intensive, inter-disciplinary and focused on building flexible, current, high-end applied skills. You will gain mastery of foundational GIS skills and apply leading-edge techniques in GIS science to create spatial solutions. Our graduates work as GIS application specialists, GIS programmer analysts, GIS analysts, or related occupations in both public and private sectors.

HealtH serviCes and HuMan serviCes PrograMs

advanced care ParaMedIc– a 45-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to enhance your skill set so you can perform an expanded set of controlled medical acts to patients suffering from serious medical and traumatic emergencies. This specialized training will allow you to better manage life-threatening situations, increasing the range of skills you can offer to employers, and the level of care you can offer to patients. You’ll develop advanced assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, and be prepared to perform invasive therapeutic interventions in the pre-hospital environment. Broaden your career opportunities with specialized, advanced training.

aneStheSIa aSSIStant– a 38-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program. Anesthesia Assistants work under the supervision of the anesthesiologist and assist in the care of patients during general, regional and local anesthesia. Graduates use their specialized, sought-after skills to work in hospital operating rooms, post-operative care, labour and delivery, emergency and intensive care areas across Canada. The Anesthesia Assistant program offers a flexible delivery format whereby you can attend classes one day each week during the first two terms, to accommodate your existing professional work commitments. The third term is devoted to clinical placement.

autISM and BehavIoural ScIence– in this one-year Ontario Graduate Certificate program you’ll develop advanced knowledge of autism, and awareness of effective intervention techniques via two field placements and academic study. Graduates have an expertise in autism and behavioural science within the children’s sector and are able to select from a range of career opportunities including autism services and children’s services, instructor therapist, private provider of Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI), and autism specialist in a service agency or school board.

PractIcal eleMentS oF MechanIcal enGIneerInG– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program gives students who have successfully completed their second or third year of a CEAB approved program in Mechanical Engineering, intensive, hands-on training in the practical elements associated with their profession. Students will learn computer assisted design (CAD), blueprint reading, machining and welding. This program will complement the theoretical skills that engineers obtain in their formal studies.

ConCierGe serviCes - GuesT relatIonS SPecIalISt– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program developing critical thinking graduate students for the hospitality industry. As stated in the Globe and Mail, “It is one of the top 10 extraordinary programs of its kind in Canada.” A collaborative, boardroom setting is used to guide students through curriculum that is focused on personal and professional development. Graduates have the poise and comfort level required to perform within this global industry. Graduates are being offered positions from national and internationally recognized hospitality employers into Leadership Development/Training Programs. These graduates are then being placed into middle management positions, and are working toward executive positions.

GaMe develoPMent - AdvAnCed ProGrAmminG– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to provide students with specialized skills and knowledge required to enter the rapidly growing entertainment, educational, training and simulation software development industries. Students will get an in-depth study of what game programmers do as part of larger project technical teams: graphics effects, animation systems, artificial intelligence, physical modelling, sound, and scripting systems. Students will learn how to create, configure, and integrate custom game components. Other aspects of gaming like game models, simulation, performance and configuration of both single player and multi-player games will also be explored and implemented. Each student will assemble a portfolio of game fragments and demonstrations to showcase their capabilities to potential employers. Graduates will be able to obtain positions such as Game Programmer, C++ Programmer, and Game Developer with opportunities in programming beyond the Game Industry.

InForMatIon SecurIty ManaGeMent– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, designed to provide students with an overall approach to information systems security as it applies to business. The program is entirely web delivered and will provide a broad understanding of security concepts and concentrate on industry best practices for information security.
