Black Forest Academy, a school primarily for missionary children, provides a quality, international, Christian education that equips its students to influence their world through biblical thought, character, and action.

Black Forest Academy is a co-laborer in the evan-gelical missionary movement. The school supports parents serving in over 50 countries throughout

Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, through the education and care of their children. The student body of 350 multi-lingual, multi-cultural stu-dents from grades 1-12 participates in a rigorous English language, North Amer-ican-based curriculum. Its diploma and

transcript are recognized for admissions into North American universities and other English-speaking colleges worldwide.

BFA has developed over 30 years of board-ing school experience and it shows in the quality of the program. For the boarding students, life at BFA has a “home-away-from-home” feel. All residence staff members are missionaries who have been carefully selected for the crucial role of meeting the physical, emotional, and social needs of boarding students. They view themselves as partners with parents in the important task of nurturing stu-dents and preparing them for life after high school graduation.

Knowing that our son was being well-cared for and nurtured spiritually gave us peace of mind to focus on our ministry. He grew and matured in many ways, particularly, spiritually, academically, emotionally, and is well-prepared for his next step of entering university in the USA. – Spain

Having our daughter here has allowed us to serve in the Middle East knowing that she was in a wonderful, nurturing, Christian environment. BFA will always be special to us. It met a great need in our family life. We will always have a piece of our heart reserved for BFA.– Middle East

We face hardships on all sides. It is difficult to provide for our children. BFA is the best choice I can think of for a balanced edu-cation — the field trips, sports, aca-demic excellence, and a chance to find God on their own. Our ministry assignment in a closed Muslim culture would not be possible if BFA were not available to us. We are now part of a team that is a spiritual hot coal in a cold place of Islamic bondage. The few Christians that accept Christ each year are an encourage-ment to us. – Central Asia

Beyond Black Forest AcademyBFA is more than a boarding school. BFA is a catalyst in the mission movement. The school’s vision is to equip its students to become global Christians, enable their parents to serve where God has called them, and empower their staff in life-long missionary service and advoca-cy. The school desires to impact the world far beyond Black Forest Academy.

Equipping the BFA StudentThe majority of BFA students have spent a significant part of their devel-opmental years outside their parents’ passport culture. Bringing together this unique group of students, who have experienced a variety of cul-tures, only serves to foster an even broader and deeper view of the world. The BFA educa-tional and residential programs help students develop a biblical perspective of life and train them to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives personally and vocationally.

BFA’s vision is to see globally-minded Christians chang-ing their world for Christ. Many BFA graduates will choose to live outside their passport country as adults. Their multi-dimensional worldview perfectly suits our ever-changing global work environment. From Bible translators and church planters for remote tribes in Africa, to religious freedom ad-vocates in Washington, D.C., BFA alumni are showing up in some amazing places wanting to change their world.

Enabling the BFA ParentThe parents of BFA students have made the difficult deci-sion to send their children to boarding school. They are bal-ancing the educational, social, and emotional needs of their child with the demands of their ministry. BFA looks to make that decision a little easier by providing the best educational and living environment possible.

B E YO N D

Empowering the BFA Staff MemberBFA is passionate about missional Christian education. We are look-ing for staff who share in this vi-sion — people who want to reach the world by deeply investing in the lives of these global students. BFA is a place of training and development where staff can grow in their vision for the world through ministering to families serving around the globe. Whether here for short-term or career service, staff benefit from the school’s commitment to invest in their lives, so they can in turn serve as resources to other international Christian schools or as representatives of missions in the local church, promoting a bigger vision for God’s work around the world. Every year BFA needs numerous teachers, dorm parents, resident assistants, and other support staff that will come to share their lives with our students and be trained to invest globally.

Engaging the BFA PartnerWill you Give? All BFA staff members are missionaries who raise their sup-port from among churches, friends, and family. Because BFA doesn’t pay salaries, the school is able to reduce the cost of educating the students, a benefit to their missionary parents. Please consider becoming a BFA Partner by financially support-ing a BFA staff member. Your financial gift will not only impact the staff member, but helps keep missionaries on the field and invests in students who will have a global impact.

Will you Go?Our commitment to quality, international, Christian education means that BFA is a great place to grow through service. If you think BFA might be the place for you, please go to our website and fill out our preliminary on-line application. Our person-nel department will then contact you about our current staffing needs. Prayerfully con-sider how God may want to use you to be involved in global missions at Black For-est Academy. www.bfacademy.com

Black Forest AcademyMK Education in Germany

Black Forest Academy is a co-laborer in the international missions movement, supporting missionary families serving in over 50 coun-tries. The 350 multi-lingual, multi-cultural students from grades 1-12, who attend BFA are educated in the English language, accord-ing to a North American-based curriculum. BFA’s diploma and transcript are recognized by North American universities and other English-speaking colleges worldwide. BFA has developed over 30 years of board-ing school experience. All residence staff members are missionaries who have been carefully selected for the crucial role of meet-ing the physical, emotional, social, and spirit-ual needs of boarding students. They partner with parents in the important task of nurtur-ing students and preparing them to become global Christians.

Needed:Teachers and residence staff who love kids and want to support global missions by serv-ing missionary families who have limited options to educate their children.

LingoLanguage-based Outreach

Lingo is an English camp program – our answer to the desire people around the world have to learn English. It’s also an excellent means of sharing the gospel. In Germany, for example, we are running multiple camps for German teens, who are fascinated with North American English and culture. They’re also looking for spiritual role models, which the warmth and friendliness of camp staff provides. The dual purpose of our camps is to facili-tate campers in their desire to improve their

English language skills, and to challenge them to develop a relationship with the Lord Jesus. Our program includes: interactive classes on language and culture, fun-filled activities that encourage friendship and team work, distinctive North American meals, chal-lenging Bible lessons, and enriching small group discussions.

Needed:Native English speakers who want to share their language, their culture, and their faith with young people, many of whom know nothing about Jesus Christ.

Teacher Training & School Planting

TeachBeyond is about missional Christian education – our intentional involvement in what God is doing through education to draw people to Himself. Our purpose is mobiliz-ing, equipping, and sending teachers, and partnering with others in missional Christian education initiatives around the globe. In countries where doors are closing to tra-ditional types of missionary work, doors are opening for educational initiatives. In many places that reject Western religion, politics, and ways of life, there is nonetheless a great desire for Western education, which has its roots in a biblical worldview. TeachBeyond is about equipping teachers in biblical integration, cross-cultural adaptation, and spiritual transformation, and helping them go where God is taking them.

Needed:Educators who share our vision for missional Christian education and want to be involved in what God is doing in needy places through educational initiatives.

Creative evangelism and Christian educationJanz Team Ministries began on the prairies of Western Canada in 1954, when God called Leo Janz to share the gospel of hope in post-war, German-speaking Europe. In addition to evangelistic ministry, the Janz family found-ed Black Forest Academy in 1956. Today, BFA is a highly respected boarding school serving hundreds of missionary families and other internationals working in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Around the world, education is increasingly viewed by all levels of society as the answer to global problems. We believe only a bibli-cal, integrated, Christian education, that relates all of life and learning to God and his Word, is sufficient to provide answers. God is at work through education to draw people to himself. BFA, Lingo and TeachBeyond reflect Janz Team Ministries’ ongoing commitment to promote and develop further education-based ministry.

About Us

Janz Team Ministries is a faith mission work-ing internationally in evangelism and Chris-tian education with missionaries and home staff involved in a diversity of outreach pro-grams and support roles. JTM is linked in joint ministry with national Janz Team organ-izations in six countries in Europe as well as Brazil. This relationship results in a great-er impact for the cause of Christ, as North American missionaries unite with interna-tional workers to form exciting and effective ministry teams. The Janz Brothers Gospel Association became the organizational name for this Canadian outreach, which began broadcast-ing the gospel over Radio Luxembourg in 1955. Large-scale evangelism soon became

the focus of the rapidly grow-ing ministry. Music of all vari-

eties, initially anchored by the Janz Quartet, proved to be an important and effec-tive part of the evangelistic effort that resulted in thou-

sands coming to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Today, Janz Team Ministries continues to be involved interna-tionally in creative evangelism and Christian education.

To the people of our times – Jesus Christ, the powerful

message!

Spring 2009 Mobilization Memo“So what exactly does Janz Team Ministries have to do with international Christian education?” This is a question that I’ve been asked by potential missionaries, missions pastors, school directors, college education profes-sors, and recruiters for other mission agencies. When asked this question, I typically point back to the compelling story of how God grew a home school-ing co-op into the leading Missionary Kid boarding school in Europe. It’s called Black Forest Academy. In the past several years, Janz Team Ministries has sought to more intentionally use the resources that God has provided in the staff and experience at BFA to be involved in Christian education work around the world.

The development of the TeachBeyond ministry initiative has paved the way for further involvement of JTM missionaries in schools and educational initiatives beyond BFA. Though we are still in the beginning stages of spreading the word about TeachBeyond, it is exciting to see some of the oppor-tunities that have arisen already. We are in the early stages of working with new missionaries for 2009-10, yet it is excit-ing to see that we already have candidates heading towards four different schools next fall. In addition to these schools receiving JTM missionaries for 2009-10, we also are in the process of developing part-

nerships with several other international Christian schools. In partnership with BFA, we have developed and are maintaining a list of staffing needs for vari-ous schools throughout Europe, Asia, and North Af-rica. See this list on the TeachBeyond website (www.teachbeyond.org) in the near future – but if you would like to see it, I would gladly share it with anybody who emails a request to me ([email protected]). Though there are several ways to get the word out about JTM/TeachBeyond service opportunities, we’ve

The 411Here at the JTM Center For Giving Up Trying To Predict What Is

Going To Happen Next, we have been doing our best to stay out

of the way of Somali pirates and giant automakers who are in deep

trouble. I would have mentioned Wall Street bankers, but that is

so last month.

We are bringing you another issue of Ganz Janz, which we recom-

mend that you actually read. Note especially the upcoming events.

On a couple of them, we’re giving you several months’ worth of

warning. Another is still years away, but take note. We’re letting

you know now so that there is not weeping and gnashing of teeth

(ours) down the road.

Christmas is soon upon us. During the Advent season, we encour-

age you to take in concerts and special services in the area, and

burn a lot of candles. If you are new in Germany, you will not have

experienced Advent quite like this. And most of all, rest when you

can, and think about Immanuel, God with us.

A Special TributeGary HildebrandFebruary 27, 1952 – November 20, 2008

Gary Hildebrand peacefully passed away at the

Riverview Health Centre on Thursday, Novem-

ber 20, 2008, after a brave four-year struggle

with ALS. He is survived by his loving wife

Bernice and four children: Jayne, Chris, Tim and

Jaclyn. He is also mourned by his parents,

George and Anne, brothers Don, Dale, and Ray,

and his sister Joyce.

Gary grew up in Niverville, Manitoba, and mar-

ried Bernice Dyck in 1979. He followed a varied career that revealed his adventurous

spirit. After graduating from university, Gary taught at Calvin Christian School in Winnipeg

for two years. Gary and Bernice then raised their family in Niverville, where Gary was also

a working partner at Puratone Corporation for 20 years. In 2000, Gary left Manitoba with

his family to serve with Janz Team Ministries in the Czech Republic and Germany until 2006.

Though his life was filled with change, Gary was always deeply motivated by the conviction

that relationships with others – with friends, with family, and with God – are what matter

most in life. Gary took great pleasure in exploring the outdoors, and he leaves his family

with many wonderful memories of camping and ski trips.

A funeral service was be held at the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimondiere

Blvd., at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family invites

donations either to the ALS Society of Manitoba or to Janz Team Ministries.
