>Not many DJs are related to Ibiza the way you are, what does this island mean to you?Ibiza means the world to me. I was captivated by its energy during my first visit back in 1993. I instantly knew it was going to be a part of my life and I have been spending every summer in Ibiza since then. In 2002 I purchased a villa as I knew Ibiza was going to be my home away from home.

>Sexy, Deep, house, sometimes techy… Do you like to be related to a music style? I like to think of myself as a musician and musicians can play any style of music. Although house music is how people know me, I also play a lot of tech-house, techno and deep house. I would like to be remembered as the DJ that made people happy no matter the style of music.

>‘I like to move it’ with Reel 2 Real brought you to Europe for the first time, how was the beginning of your career in this part of the world?Reel 2 Real opened up my eyes to the world of dance music. Prior to Reel 2 Real, I had never been here or experienced the dance culture as we know it today. In America, the dance culture was nonexistent by then. During my first visit to Europe, I was blown away by how DJs were admired and respected. The experience reinforced the notion of wanting to pursue a career in music. The massive success of ‘I Like To Move It’, led to many DJing opportunities all over the world. It was during this time when I was asked to play Space in Ibiza. I could not believe that I was invited to play in this magical island and the rest, as they say, is history.

>Do you remember your first night at Pacha? It was on a Friday night for Ministry of Sound party in 1994. The DJ booth was before the stairs. The night was memorable. I was extremely nervous, but once I started my set the nerves disappeared andI just kept looking around with joy and a feeling of pride for accomplishing one of my dreams: playing to a crowd in one of the best clubs in the world. I also got to play alongside Carl Cox. It was a surreal experience and one that will stay close to my heart forever.

>Pacha was home for Subliminal Sessions for 13 years. It was undoubtedly a great success for us and a boom in Ibiza, how did it feel to you? Subliminal Sessions Wednesday nights at Pacha was an amazing party and Pacha family was my family. Each year we would all work extremely hard on making the season a success. Over the years I bonded with everyone at Pacha and it was definitely a family affair. It was such a pleasure to play at Pacha and the memories created are unforgettable. The best times of my life.

>Could you name at least 10 of the djs that were part of this residency? Best memory?Dubfire, Swedish House Mafia, Darren Emerson, Harry Romero, Josh Wink, Cassius, X-Press 2. Also not a DJ but definitely one of the highlight of the Subliminal Sessions residency was Tommy Lee rocking out on his drums during one of my sets. I also brought Puff Daddy to perform at Pacha. At the time, bringing a super star rapper to perform at a house music party in Ibiza was unheard of. That night turned out to be amazing and probably one of the top 3 Subliminal Sessions parties of all times. >How do you feel about closing the season at Pacha “Pure Ibiza style”? I am so happy to be playing the October 12th Pure Ibiza party. I’m also extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to play the first Saturday and last Saturday of the Pacha 2019 summer season. This summer I’ve had the opportunity to play some great events throughout Ibiza but Pacha undoubtedly will always be my home. I look forward to creating a few more unforgettable memories

Ibiza plays a major part in the life of many international DJs. The island has always been the place where many individuals celebrate the love of music; and Pacha was the temple where many of them came together in their beginnings.

The club has hosted astoundingly succesful residencies: Renaissance, Vagabundos, Release Yourself, Ministry of Sound, F*** me I’m Famous, Defected In The House and Subliminal Sessions - guided by Erick Morillo. Since this residency and his participation in Pacha New York, he became part of the Pacha family.

On Saturday October 12th, Erick Morillo together with another Ibiza legend - Danny Tenaglia - will celebrate the end of an unforgettable season with the Pure Ibiza party at Pacha. Let’s take some time to speak to Morillo before he comes back home to perform...

“I received a lot of criticism in the beginning. I suffered a lot because of it. My credibility was questioned: ‘Why is he going to Pacha?’, ‘Why would he do that to himself?’ (…) We accepted the challenge, yes, I knew it was a risk, but I was sure I could change things. With my vision and my power, I could create an atmosphere in that room so that we all had a good time. “
