DESCRIPTION

This was the inaugural issue of the Grab Bag Mag. We knew we wanted to promote up and coming artists, and felt the best way to showoff their work was in magazine form. For most of the artists, this was their first opportunity to have their work published, and presented to audiences of like minded people. We created and released Issue 0 to a limited audience as our “trial run” to see what kind of attention it garnered, and the immediate response was so Amazing that we decided to make this magazine a full time project. While this particular issue was centered solely on indie comic book artists, we will feature all types of artists going forward.

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the GRAB BAG MAG, an indie comic magazine. This magazine came in to existence with one simple goal, to showcase the works of independent comic artists throughout the world. Each issue will feature a random collection of comics from different artists, each with their own unique style.

We hope to help many artists get there work out into the world. The artists that are featured in this magazine would love feedback from our readers, and for this reason we have included contact info for each artist. We strongly encourage our audience to interact with the artists, as that is what the GRAB BAG MAG is all about.

TYLER Earles

I am the creator of the Grab Bag Mag and co-founder of the Grab Bag Collective. I’m the youngest in the group (20), but I feel that I’m taking massive strides to get my vision out there in the world. I live in Nashville, TN with my girlfriend and the infamous “Corndog,” who will star in his own comic strip in the near future. I’m the driving force behind the assembly of this mag, and the one who is responsible for the layout, content, graphics, editing and much more. Along with Jason and fellow GBC member Richard Loupe, the Grab Bag Mag started to take shape in 2010.

FEATURED ARTISTS:

All of the comics contained in this magazine are 100% creator-owned. The Grab Bag Mag is simply a platform to showcase up and coming independent artists and their work. We strongly encourage our readers to get in touch with the artists and leave feedback, as that is sometimes the only thing that keeps independent artists going. If you are an independent artist that would like your work featured in a future issue of the Grab Bag Mag, contact [email protected]

I was raised by a family of cowboys in rural southern Colorado, and wasn’t allowed to ride a gentle horse until I was twelve. I went on into a profitable career in intendured servitude for local ranches until I realized that drawing comics about wild west adventures like Pistoleer was much less painful than experiencing them. I’m the former Champion of the National Cavalry Competion. I live in Weston Missouri with my two children and wife, who could easily beat up your Dad.

I am 31 years old and hail out of Cookeville, Tn. I earned my Associates in Graphic Design from Nossi College of Art in 2011 and will be heading back for my Bachelors in Illustration. I have had a love for drawing since I was in the 5th grade. Recently I have met up with a co-creator and have joined forces under the name CZKWORLD Studios to create a comic called Corey the Zombie Killer coming out this June. Michael Carr is behind this series as well as the character from my submission to the GBM. I am blessed to be working along side him as we create this zombie filled world.

I am an aspiring illustrator that favors the superhero genre. I currently work primarily in the I.T. industry, but also take on freelance commissions.

My contribution is a four page excerpt from my creator-owned project [GLORYHOUNDS], which follows the adventures of a band of profit-hungry heroes that will do whatever it takes to stay in the limelight and outshine the other altruistic heroes in their universe.

I’m an illustrator from Grand Rapids, MI. I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration in 2008, and have been working as a freelance artist since then. I own a small art business called Killustration Studios with my wife and fellow artist, Sara. It’s an edgy, alternative art and design studio that focuses on the new generation of CEOs and entrepreneurs. We specialize in everything from comic books, to corporate logos, to portraiture. Sara and I have two children (Donovan and Violet) as well as a cat named Agatha. TYLER SOWLES

Thank you to all of the artists that submitted to the first issue, it was a learning process but we finally made it!

Thanks to Hugh Shelton for your constant enouragement and help creating the Grab Bag Collective website!

And thank you to all of the people that are actually reading this right now. I wouldn’t have wasted my time if I didn’t think anyone cared.
