Product Description
GPS RADIONOVA M10372 is a highly integrated
GPS RF Antenna Module suitable for L1-band GPS
and A-GPS systems. The device is based on the high
performance SiRFstarIV GPS architecture combined
with Antenovas high efciency antenna technology
designed to provide an optimal radiation pattern for
GPS reception.
All RF front-end and baseband components are
contained in a single package laminate base module
providing a complete GPS receiver for optimum
performance. M10372 operates on a single 1.8V
positive bias supply with low power consumption andavailable low power modes for further power savings.
M10372 is a complete GPS system solution with a
stand-alone GPS engine that can generate a PVT
solution without relying upon host-device processing
power and is compatible with UART, SPI and I2C host
processor interfaces.
Custom versions of the M10372 can also incorporate
an antenna switch for optional active antenna
connection. Custom versions are subject to minimum
order quantities.

Recommended Application Schematic for M10372-A1 without
external antenna support
The following schematic shows the recommended connection for the module (without external antenna
support) for stand alone applications. Please contact Antenova for A-GPS applications.
L1-4 and C1,2,3 and 5 are LC lters to prevent in-band GPS noise being conducted into the module. In the event that CTS and RTS are
also connected to the host processor, then similar lters should be used on these lines. Filter components should be placed as close to
the M10372 connector as possible.
A large capacitor should also be included on the VCC line in order to keep the input voltage ripple to a minimum. R1 and R2 are hardware
straps to set the host port conguration on startup.

Recommended Circuit Schematic for M10372-A1X modules to
Support External Antenna
To support an external antenna the module includes an on board RF switch. The host device can control this
switch via the Pin 22 voltage (Vcnt). When this pin is high, the RF switch disconnects the embedded internal
antenna, and routes the signal from pin 28 to the RF front end. In order to provide this control voltage, acurrent detector circuit is suggested. Optional over-voltage protection can also be provided, to protect the
power supply in the event of a short circuit in the antenna connection.
A suggestion for such a circuit is given in the gure below:
U1 and Q1 provide a current sense function, amplifying the voltage drop across sense resistor R1. Thiscurrent sense voltage is used to control the output of the window comparator U2. When the current through
the antenna bias circuit is between 5 and 50mA, then the comparator asserts high, and the RF switch selects
the external antenna. Outside of this range, the comparator detects either a DC short or open circuit in the
bias circuit and asserts low, selecting the internal antenna.
Additionally, the current sense voltage is fed to the gate of Q2, increasing the resistance in the bias circuit as
the voltage rises, and choking off the antenna supply current when it rises above 100mA.

Module Communication - UART
The default UART communication setting for the M10372 is NMEA-0183 protocol at 4800 Baud, 8 data bits, 1
stop bit, no ow control. After boot-up, the host can select a different data rate from 1200 baud up to 1.8432
Mbaud. There is also the option to use hardware ow control.
