Background
• GPS – Global positioning System – Is a
measuring tool that can find direction, speed and
location on earth via satellites
• GIS – Geographic information systems – is a
science that uses data from GPS and other
sources for analysis.
GPS in WCC
• Veolia our collection and disposal
contractors have licence with supatrak
systems (STS)
• Licence is per vehicle, valid until the
subscription is ceased. eg. vehicle disposed
• Costs £617 per vehicle – revenue depends
on size of package.
• WCC have 90 RCV’s with GPS trackers
Advantages of GIS systems
• Contract management
• Adhere to collection schedules
• Contract efficiency
• Driver performance monitoring (fuel
use, harsh braking, over reeving the
engine, idle times
• Complaint analysis
• Early, late and missed collection
complaints
• Traffic violation, locating vehicles and
insurance claim investigations
Disadvantages
Validity of data is dependant on positional accuracy,
poor GPS signal could provide false information.

TEXTILE banks and recently installed same
technology in 5 recycling bins as a trial.

small WEEE bring banks
