This is an exciting event for all riders and this year we will run a special junior event for ungraded riders. A combined training day involves riding a dressage test and a showjumping course and combining the scores. For those who like dressage you can do an additional dressage test. There will also be an open competition for the parents to ride in!! Kylie Hutchison, Anisa Hogan and a small subcommittee have worked hard coordinating the event and have published the program. There is still plenty of work to do so please help out if you have experience or even just an interest in finding dressage judges, pencillers, helping with the ribbons, sourcing raffle prizes and helping on the day. Anyone can help and many hands make light work. Remember all families need to help with the 2 events run each year because these are essential fund raising activities to ensure the viability of the club. Home run events are the best way to introduce our own riders into competition in a friendly helpful environment and are a lot of fun for everyone! Gisborne Pony Club Facebook Page

There is now a Gisborne Pony Club Facebook page. This is just like the PCAV Central Zone facebook page to let those who read facebook know news and results as they happen. Either search for Gisborne Pony Club from your log in and “like” the page or go to the link on the website.

Club Photo

The November rally will be our last rally of instruction for the year and we are taking the opportunity to plan a club photograph. We try a group photo on hroses each year but due to the complexity of getting 30 horses to stand still at the same time we also want an unmounted group photo this year. So please wear your club uniform which is black and gold on top and light coloured jodpurs at the very least.

The mounted horse photo will be attempted first thing after gear check and the unmounted photo will be taken at lunch time during the club meeting.

Grounds Improvements – Water Jump finished

You may have noticed there is now a lovely water jump for you to use at the grounds!! The Pony Club thanks the IR Roberstons Reserve in particular James Lang for building this for both clubs to use. We look forward to training over it at future rallies and including it in next year’s horse trials!

IR Robertson Reserve Usage and Website

The IR Roberston Reserve is a public reserve. The older members remember the efforts originally made by the pony club to initiate setting up the grounds for the Pony Club 30 years ago when we shifted from the Gilligan reserve in Millett Road (where the tennis courts are) including raising money for the club house and toilet block. Since then many user groups have become involved requiring an independent committee to be created. The IR Robertson Reserve Committee works with the Macedon Ranges Council to ensure the grounds are maintained for use by all and they manage the mowing, booking and facility hire.

Federal and State funding grants have been obtained to contribute to building the arenas and while these grants were obtained from efforts of many club members, it is nevertheless a public reserve. Therefore the arenas are available for use and only shut by the committee when necessary to ensure longevity during wet weather. This is essential to ensure they are not abused and damaged which can happen when dug up in wet weather especially by jumping.

If you want to know when the grounds and arenas will be open please refer to the IR Robertson Reserve website:

Working Bees required – help at rallies

The grounds need some urgent maintenance including some burning off before it gets hot, cleaning up of some donated power poles inpreparation for being made into new jumps and some dirt moving.

There are some fallen trees on the cross country course which Rod is going to burn off before it gets to warm. If anyone wants any fire wood please come and cut some of the fallen branches to take as much away as possible.

Strips of hardware need to be removed from poles for new cross country jumps. Please bring

some tools such as wrenches to pull off the pieces of metal and bolts which are stuck in the poles. These have been organised to build some new cross country jumps but will not be able to be used until they are “clean” to ensure they are safe for horses to jump over.

You may also have noticed that there are a couple of big mounds of dirt placed inside the gate of the cross country paddock. If anyone has any earth moving equipment who could help move the dirt then it would be appreciated to get some help spreading the dirt into some of the targeted places.

Change of Canteen Format – new Canteen coordinator

Lisa and Craig Dunshea have taken ownership of the canteen subcommittee to manage the procedures and volunteer roster so if you receive a call from them. To ensure you can continue to have the menu offered previously including hot food please come forward to help in the canteen especially if you haven’t got another role at the rallies.

This is a great way for non-horsey parents to take an active role in contributing to the club also for grandparents and friends to help out to contribute to your family’s commitment. If you offered to help in the canteen on your volunteer hrs form (or if you didn’t but can help) please contact Lisa.

Rally Format – listen for changes at gear check

The groups have been reformatted to 5 groups so there is still not a Gold group this rally. Pay particular attention to the rally plan and group lists attached to check which group you are in. Please note the groups are transitional – you are not fixed in a colour. Groups are arranged based on your current riding grade and it’s a lot to do with numbers, who is riding which horse on the day and what is the safest and most efficient arrangement on the day. Groups may need to be re-shuffled at the start of the day based on who turns up which is why its important to listen to the announcements after gear check. It is also why you are asked to advise Carol of your inability to attend.

Rally Etiquette – advising Carol of attendance, gear check and rally start time – late arrivals must not disrupt lesson.

If you cannot attend you must ring Carol McCoag (your DC). Even if you don’t know until the morning you can ring her mobile or another member of the committee. Carol’s phone numbers are available on the front page of the website and this newsletter every month so please put them in your mobiles now as your read this:

Home ph 03 5428 3961 or mobile 0423 059 313

If you miss the gear check and the start of the lesson you must warm up outside the lesson then apologise to the instructor and ask permission to join the lesson. It is unfair for the rest of the group to have a latecomer arrive late and expect the class to warm up again or wait for you to be ready to progress the class.

Riders Representative

Melissa Burns has been attending committee meetings as the Riders Representative for several months and is giving the committee lots of great ideas. Melissa is our most senior rider and has lots of experience and is keen to promote the club and help younger riders learn what pony club is all about and especially those new to competing.

If you have any feedback about the club, rallies, instructors and what you want to learn please feel comfortable to chat to Mel at rallies and she will be happy to pass on your issues or feedback with the committee.
