CAPPED MAJORSIf you choose a capped major on your application, it is strongly recommended that you select an alternate major, and that your alternate major not be capped. If you are not admitted to a capped major, you may be admitted to your alternate uncapped major. Only freshmen may be admitted as Undeclared.

Applicants strongly interested in a capped major should select it on the application, as it may not be possible to change into a capped major after enrollment. Note: many freshmen change their majors by graduation. To explore your career goals and associated major options visit admissions.ucsd.edu/goals

4th year from Kotzebue, AKSociology (Science and Medicine)UC San Diego has given me opportunities not offered anywhere else as an undergraduate, like working closely with professors in a research lab focused on Arctic marine mammals. Though I'm away from home, I'm able to study the mammals my tribe has relied on for thousands of years.

4th year from San Diego, CAPharmacological ChemistryI’m a member of the National Society of Black Engineers. I enjoy promoting other students and other people of color in a field we are not prevalent in. I did a four-week internship in Washington, D.C., where we mentored elementary school students and taught them engineering concepts.

3rd year from Columbus, OH Physiology & Neuroscience

I chose UC San Diego because of the College system, and because we're so close to the beach! Through my college, I got individualized advising and to talk with professors about my future plans, which was phenomenal. That’s why I’m graduating early and getting the continuous Master's/Bachelor's degree.

ADMISSIONS.UCSD.EDU/SIXCOLLEGES

One University ∙ Six Colleges • Every UC San Diego undergraduate is assigned a college.

• Unlike many universities, UC San Diego's colleges are not organized around academic divisions. Students may select from the full range of majors regardless of college assignment.

• The colleges are residential neighborhoods on campus, each with their own residence facilities, and academic and student life professionals who provide individualized services and support.

• The college system removes the anonymity and/or intimidation that can occur at a large, Tier 1 research university and allows students to enjoy the close-knit community of a small, liberal arts college. At UC San Diego, students have the best of both worlds!
