• Term of POTUS (Pres. of the U.S.)• 1 Term = 4 Years. Can serve a

total of 2 terms = 8 years.Term Limit set by 22nd Amendment. FDR only President to serve more than one term.

FDR’s terms totaled up to 14 yrs.

departments of the Executive Branch. (Don't have to get approval of Congress) Examples include: Take Your Child to Work Day, Breast Cancer Month, Desegregation of the Armed Forces, Japanese Internment during WWII

• • Diplomatic Powers of the President • * Can make treaties with other nations, BUT all treaties must

get a 2/3 approval of the Senate to be approved.• • Appointment Powers of the President• can choose persons to fill government jobs, judge positions,

Cabinet positions, but they must be approved by the Senate.

In our society, Presidential powers are checked by the House & Senate, but the

REAL power should come from the people

• • Sign or Veto Laws • The power of the President to sign or veto laws.• • Pardon • The president can release someone from prison

and "cancel out" their prison term.• • Independent Executive Agencies • The president is over hundreds of independent

agencies including NASA, FDA, CIA, etc.

looks over the law of the land.• • Secretary of Homeland Security • Protects the homeland (US). A major part of their job is preventing terrorist
