    MISSIONS UNDERTAKEN BY GOVT

    Government of India has undertaken manyprojects under sustainability. Some of these are:1.National Solar Mission:

    It seeks to deploy 2000 MW of solar electricitycapacity in the country by 2020, the first

    phase(2010-2012) is currently underway duringwhich 1000 MW is planned to be installed.2. National mission for Enhanced EnergyEfficiency:

    It creates new institutional mechanisms toenable the development and energy efficiency

    market. Various programs have been initiated fore.g. super efficient equipment program(SEEP) toaccelerate the deployment of superefficientappliances.

    3. National Mission on SustainableHabitat:

    It promotes the introduction ofsustainable transport, energy efficientbuildings sustainable habitat andsustainable waste management in cities.

    4. National Water Mission:

    It promotes the integrated managementof water resources and increase ofmission water use efficiency by 20percent.

    5. National mission for sustaining theHimalayan ecosystem:

    It establishes an observational andmonitoring network for the Himalayan

    It seeks to afforest an additional 10million hectares of forest lands,wastelands and community lands.
