THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

The Executive Office of the President
• EOP is composed of the President’s closest advisors and assistants.
• Approximately 900 people that operate within this agency in a variety of roles.– Created in 1939 and has been reorganized by
every administration since then.
The White House
• The central nerve center of the Executive Office of the President is an agency called The White House– President’s key political and personal aids– President’s chief of staff and senior advisors– Advices the President on foreign policy, defense,
homeland security, the economy, politics, relations with Congress, speech writing, media, and public affairs.
National Security Council
• Advises the President on domestic, foreign, and military affairs– President, Vice President, Secretaries of State,
Treasury, and Defense, Director of National Intelligence, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and key foreign policy and security advisors.
Office of Management and Budget
• Prepares the federal budget which is submitted by the President for approval to Congress.– Anticipation of federal expenses and income for
each fiscal year– Each agency request funds, OMB reviews request,
and then submits the budget proposal to the President.
