SOUTH ASIAN MANAGEMENT FORUM
INTRODUCTION
South Asian Management Forum (SAMF) is a biennial conference organized by the Association of
Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA). The forum aims to bring
together management experts, scholars, practicing managers, business leaders, policy
administrators and other academicians from different countries of South Asia on a platform to
discuss various connected issues and share their research findings. The 14th SAMF 2017 is being
held in Male, Maldives during 24 - 26, April, 2017. The last conference was held in Colombo, Sri
Lanka in 2015.
The theme of the 14th SAMF 2017 is “Governance and Public Policy – Role of Management
Development”. Besides plenary sessions there will be concurrent sessions where papers will be
presented by leading academic/research scholars from the participating countries.
The deliberations should result in evolving the blueprint of an Action Plan which can be
considered for implementation in SAARC Countries with SAARC Secretariat and AMDISA as
nodal agencies.
CONFERENCE THEME
Governance and Public Policy – Role of Management Development
Management education has come a long way in addressing itself to the challenges in business,
industry and technology. It has empowered its students in tackling problems as they arise.
Meanwhile it was believed that as capitalism outpaces other competing ideologies, the role of
government shrinks. Hence the slogan, minimum government and maximum performance. But
as the social and economic environment becomes more complex, government may slowly
withdraw as producer of goods and services, but reinforce itself as a regulator. Unless managers
understand the compulsions of governance in a democratic society, and the bases of public
policy formulation and implementation they cannot take their enterprises forward. Government
will not, and cannot, recede into background. Hence the need to restructure management
education to go beyond what is now being taught and design appropriate learning processes.
Corporate sector needs sensitization both to prepare and to respond to change. Here is where
management education needs new education for itself, and for its students and teachers.
On behalf of the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA),
MNU Business School, Maldives National University, Male, Maldives is pleased to invite you to
register and enthusiastically participate for the 14th South Asian Management Forum 2017. The
Forum aims to provide a platform to bring together academicians, scholars, practicing managers
and students of management and business of South Asian countries and exchange views and
