Keep It Moving

Recently after seeing an arthritis commercial I had an epiphany. Whether we did well in Science class or not, we have all heard, Newton’s law of motion.

The commercial said, “A body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay at rest.”

Hmm, what do you make of that?

One of the greatest tricks of the enemy is to get each Christian to a place that they are too busy...so busy that they are actually doing nothing. So busy that our spiritual begins to do nothing.

Now I don’t mean that we stop coming to church. But too busy that we cease to be an active moving part of the body of Christ.

Before we know it we have developed spiritual arthritis. Every time we decide to get back to moving for God we find it difficult to actually connect with other members of our very own body.

We have great intentions, and really desire to do more. Sometimes we even make resolutions to get moving after hearing a stirring message. But for some reason, moving from “rest” becomes a difficult task.

I remember reading a church leadership book years ago that 20 percent of a church membership does 80 percent of the hard labor of church ministry. Several years after that we incorporated that tidbit of knowledge in our

membership class. In the first lesson I would tell the new members that we wanted to assist them in moving to the core, the 20 percent, of church servants and eliminate the 20/80 rule of church membership service.

When I think of the church’s core - I think of the joints that keep a body moving.

Sometimes the joints can get over worked and began to wear out. It can be due to too much weight or pressure on the joints, or joints that are over worked. Over time the bones of the joints start rubbing together causing friction. When this happens moving becomes painful.

It is at this point that an individual tends to do less. They may want to get up and enjoy life, do the things they use to, but the discomfort or pain seems to be

L ittle over a year ago the world was watching as Tunisia and Egypt were on “fire” with a revolution that would later be called “The Arab Spring”.

One little nation, turned a whole region on its axis. Nearly all of North Africa became a heat wave that would lead the path for “the peoples’ freedom” in the Arab world.

Last year while in Kenya, I met a young American who was backpacking through Africa. His safari began in Egypt just as the country was beginning to ignite with regime change fever. Over the communal breakfast at the camp where I was staying, the American traveler shared with us the passion he noticed in the heart of the Egyptians who were in the streets day and night protesting for their freedom.

I find it ironic that today we are calling the still blazing regional uprising “The Arab Spring”, “Spring” being the word that stands out to me.

I’ve always thought of Spring as a time when things come alive; the sun shines clear and bright; the air is refreshing and the sky bluer than; the sun feels more delightful against my skin, and everything smells fresh.

I’ve never equated “Spring” with fighting, revolution or rebellion. It seems to be a contradiction.

But when I think about it, with spring comes two more things that a city girl like myself never really think about, harvesting the produce from the winter months and preparing to plant for the summer crop.

The Arab Spring = people harvesting their freedom after years of frustration and oppression, and planting the seed of liberation to a region riddled with “weedy” dictators. Sounds a little bit like spring cleaning.

Spiritually thinking, what sort of Spring Revolution (cleaning) does each Christian need to do?

Seed and Harvest

By Bishop Brenda K. Perry

Spring is around the corner. God has showered us with much needed rain this year. There has been

some flooding so the ground is getting well saturated with God’s goodness in rain. My faith in His goodness and mercy believes He will balance it off with some sunshine. So nature will take its place in producing lovely flowers, and new leaves on the trees, and yes, watermelons and fresh fruits and vegetables. There is nothing like the growth of fresh produce with the coming of a new season.

The harvest of those crops comes from hard labors of love, and dedication, and determination, whether they come from large or small fields. It takes time and energy, along with care, to plant the seeds of these crops.

Yes, farmers make money, some more than other. However, if they did not have the compassion in planting and growing and caring for new crops each New Year, where would we be? I never give much thought about how our food is grown and cared for until I hear things said on the news. Yes, I would love for our food to be grown with less pesticide and fertilization that is poisoning us, and setting up known and unknown disease in our bodies. This is why it is important for us to pray and bless the food we partake of. But, never the less, we purchase those things we like, or love to eat, without much thought in mind.

There are many things in this world that grows without man’s help. God’s way in nature helps each New Year to produce the same things over and over, such as special herbs, and wild berries, and other substance that we can eat. Genesis 1:11-12 reads, “Then God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields

2012 is here and it seems like 2011 had just begun. Then it zoomed by. Now we have begun this New Year with expectations of doing more for the Lord, in our lives, in ministry, and in witnessing, which is an excellent attitude to have. But when you look at all of the people you witnessed to last year about salvation, and about the Lord Jesus Christ, how many did you let know who you are? While you were telling them about Christ and who he is, did you forget anything? Did you forget to tell them who you are?

... who God is. If we define who we are, apart from knowledge of who God is, we totally miss our own identity. Your ability to identify yourself, to know who you are, is totally dependent upon your knowledge of God, and who God is. So I can miss completely understanding who I am, and how I relate to myself, to those around me, the world in which I live, everything is dependent upon who God is.

So we ask the question, who am I? Who is God? Somewhere along the line we have to ask the question, who

seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”, and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herbs that yield seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is within itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”

Let’s look into the Word of God more closely regarding Seed and Harvest time to see how the seed is to generate a harvest. Seed and Harvest time is natural and spiritual, from earthly things to Kingdom building.

Genesis 8:22a states, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest”. To paraphrase, as long as the earth is here, and not destroyed, there will be planting and harvesting. Everything God created has a seed and a harvest time, whether it’s grows from the earth, or it’s from the flesh. Everything that grows from the earth must die. John 12:24 reads, “I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” What goes for the nature also goes for the spiritual.

For us to grow in the grace of God one must die to themselves. In 1 Corinthians 15:31b the Apostle Paul said “I die daily”. For Apostle Paul to continue and accomplish what was required of him, he could not think or do what the old man (Saul) wanted to do. Many times in the books of the

gospel Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Understanding that the cross means dying out to self, so Christ can live within us. The more we allow the old man to stay in the spiritual ground, the new man, by the grace of God, will rise in the newness of Christ. And that is our goal. To come into the spiritual image of Christ, meaning the character of Christ Jesus. So when our true natural bodies finally lie down from this world and truly die to this world, God gives us a new celestial body. We become totally like Christ. There is no more death to all that are in Christ Jesus our Lord. So for us to flourish, and to advance the Kingdom of God, one must die to this world’s goodies and power.

To advance the Kingdom of God it also takes money. Yes, that green and silver stuff that we hold on to for dear life. Jesus talks about money, stewardship and giving more than heaven and hell. Many stories, or parables, were told in the gospel referring to money. Even Apostle Paul challenges the faith of God’s people to give to the cause of then kingdom. Here’s what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:6, “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” Do you want a harvest of financial blessings so that you can be a blessing

to yourself, God’s Kingdom, and to the lost? Look here in 2 Corinthians 9:10, “He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness…” Many of God’s people are afraid to give money to the kingdom because of their needs. They hear the negative about loses of jobs, gas prices going up, and the list goes on and on. “Be not deceive God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” You plant nothing, you reap nothing. Give and it’s a guarantee it will come back to you.

God gives us the power, the grace, and his Holy Spirit to accomplish His work. It is as the Apostle said,

“one plant, one waters, but God gives the increase.” In Deuteronomy it states that He gives us power to get wealth. Whether it is spiritual or natural God’s desire for us is to be blessed. In John 15 Jesus tells us He the true vine and the Father is vinedresser, and “if you abide in me,” we will bear much fruit and this would glorify the Father.

Our eyes of faith must go out into His harvest that is already white. The seeds have already been sown. It is harvest time.

Outreach Ministry

THE REST OF THE STORY The fact is that Jesus Christ went

to the cross in order to pay the debt for our sins. Jesus Christ was buried in a grave, but rose 3 days later is terrific news! Because of what Jesus Christ has done, all people, from all nations, of every race, every color, and every social level have the opportunity to be forgiven, saved, and brought into a right relationship

with Jesus Christ with the hope of eternal life in heaven. The Bible calls it the Good News.

So now that you know what the news is, let’s talk about the rest of the story.

The rest of the story has to do with what we are going to do with this Good News

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus challenged us to... “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Evangelism is an expression of our overflowing gratitude for what the Lord has done for us through Jesus Christ. We are to do evangelism and outreach ministries with an attitude of grace. We are not to feel that we are doing something above and beyond the call of duty. Doing evangelism should come out of an overflow of our gratitude for what the Lord has done for us.

It is expected that all who are Christ’s disciples will be engaged in some type of evangelistic ministry. Evangelism doesn’t always mean walking up to a total stranger and saying, “If you died right now would you go to hell?” There are those that can do that and do it very effectively–those are the ones who are gifted in evangelism. We need to tell people

what to do, but first we must show them how to live and what Christ is doing in our lives.

Sometimes you can show people what it is to be a Christian by being there in time of need. At

times, by how you handle difficult situations. At other times by our own personal commitment to Christ and His Church.

Our job is to deliver the message of the gospel and not to worry about the results. Too many people hesitate to share the gospel because they are afraid that it will not result in converts. Fundamentally, we are to trust and obey the Lord’s command to go and preach the gospel,

regardless of whether or not the message is received. Bill Bright, the founder and former President of Campus Crusade for Christ teaches, “Evangelism is sharing the gospel of Christ in the power of the Spirit and leaving the results to God.” A good steward just takes the meal from the kitchen and serves it up on the table without messing up the ingredients along the way. We are to be good stewards of the gospel.

DO NOT BE AFRAID. Fear is probably the main reason why people do not do more evangelism. They are afraid of what other people might think, do or say. Jesus said, “So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed or hidden that will not be made known… Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt 10:26-28) The fear of God is a great antidote to the fear of men. David wrote, “Oh fear the Lord you His saints. For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions may lack and suffer hunger, but they who seek the Lord will not lack one good thing.” (Psa. 34:9)

Some people hesitate to do evangelism because they do not think they have enough knowledge, resources or emotional strength. Let them realize that as we move ahead in God’s will we will not lack any good thing.

Quote: Hudson Taylor, the famous pioneer missionary to China, said, “God’s will done, in God’s way, will not lack God’s support.” The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.

Couples In Unity

The Journey of Marriage

Marriage is a covenant institution that God ordained. It is not something to enter into lightly, but with reverence and much prayer. The state of the church and its marriages is a cause for much prayer and teaching. The divorce rate in the church is now equal to that of non-church goers. That makes me sad. Marriage is not always easy but it is worth every effort to keep it intact. The process of learning how to become one-flesh is indeed a journey.

With prayer and lines of communication remaining open between spouses, we can work through any conflict. The word tells us that with every temptation a way of escape is present. We must be prayerful to identify that escape when God provides it. It could be a soft answer turns away wrath, or hold your peace, or preferring your spouses need over your own. The Holy Ghost is to lead and guide us to help us walk in the Spirit and make right choices. We have to ask the Lord to lead us each day and give us wisdom how to be the husband or wife he wants us to be. Peace should be present in our homes as children of God, because the Prince of Peace should reside in our hearts as well as in our homes.

This is a journey and on this journey we go through many seasons. It’s up to us to learn what each season brings as a fruit. As we successfully navigate each season yields fruit which makes the journey rewarding. Let us keep the faith understanding that we have a great counselor when we heed the Spirit. There is not a situation he is intimidated by. Nothing is too hard for our God! It’s just another opportunity to show Himself strong on our behalf. Be encouraged and help mentor someone who is coming behind you.

is Jesus Christ? Let’s start by focusing on the identity of Christ, the person of Christ. We begin with a scripture, Matthew 16:13 where Jesus, in the midst of His ministry, turns to His disciples and He says, "Who do people say I am? What is the crowd saying about Me? How is the crowd describing Me? Who do the people say I am?"

There's some discussion about that, and then Jesus says, "But who do you say I am?" He made it personal. You know, for you today, it is important what people around you think about Jesus Christ, because their understanding of who they are depends upon their understanding of Christ. And if they miss Christ, as far as I'm concerned, then they've missed everything. But eventually the question comes to you, and to me, "Who do you say that Jesus Christ is?" Now let’s look at this. Because there are two terms in the New Testament that describe who Jesus is that are all encompassing, and who He is fits under both of these titles. All other titles of who Jesus is will fit under these two.

Jesus says, "Who do people say the son of man is?" Isn't that interesting?

If we look in the Old Testament, Ezekiel referred to himself as a prophet of God and called himself son of man. And God spoke to him, son of man.

This was Jesus’ favorite description for Himself, because He was talking about His humanity. He was also talking about, and we'll get to it in a moment, the designation of not a son of man, but the Son of man. The Son of man who would come at the end of history, as we know it, and establish the definitive rule of God, and the final victory over evil and sin and death. And that person is called "One like the Son of man."

And so we're able to see here that Jesus, as He says, "Who do they say the Son of man is? Who do they say that I am?" And then He says, "Who do you say I am?"And here we see that frequently the spokesman for the disciples is a bold forward fisherman who ran his own fishing company, and he never had to stumble for words, the words came easily. Sometimes he regretted them, but they came easily in Matthew's gospel. We are told that Jesus said that Peter was blessed, for flesh and blood didn't reveal this to Peter, but the Father in heaven has done so. The true revelation of Christ comes from above. Who is Jesus? His identity was in dispute during his lifetime, and it's still in dispute among the world today.

To those who know Christ, that identity is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit, and through the scriptures (which is also by the Holy Spirit). "Who do you say that I am?" It's a question every person must answer in their heart. This is

just something to think about and consider this year as we participate in the iWIN outreach program.

Minister Isaac J. Bazile serves as director of the Men’s Ministry of NLTC

more than the individual can deal with.

Just as this happens with the human body, it can happen in body of Christ. It’s easy for individuals who are a part of the core to began to feel the strain of caring the load of 80 percent of church labor. Before you know it, there is friction that soon leads to pain and offenses.

It seems easier to just sit down until the pain subsides. But then moving becomes even more discomforting. Resting becomes a more desirable option.

Two of the most dangerous times in a Christians’ life is when they are over worked and when they are not working.

Two of the most dangerous times in a local church’s life is when its core is over worked and when needed joints stop working.

So here’s a deal, I’ll do my part, you do your part and together we will encourage others to do theirs, so that we can be a body in motion, doing His purpose.

I just hate it when people

want me to call them, but they

are already mentally on a date somewhere else.

Uh, that bugs me to no ends. Yea, of course I do it also, but I have a good reason when I do it...at least I started out listening and was distracted by...

Never mind... Back to the people who annoy me, or should I say that make me look “side eyed”, lol...

My Mum is really good for the “call me”, but too distracted to really listen or answer. However, don't tell her that I'm talking about her, or at least don’t tell her which daughter said this.

Anyway, she will send me a text that says, "call me". But when I call she is nowhere near hearing anything I say. "Mum...Mum, yes what did you need..." "Uh, uh...Oh, I'm sorry. I was talking to...I'm sorry, my I was thinking about...I was looking at..." "Ok, Mum just call me when..." And she always insist on trying to tell me what it is that I was supposed to call her for, while her mind weaves in and out of the "going nowhere" conversation. Of course she would strongly state that I'm making this all up and it never happens. But I promise, I have witnesses. I guess it comes with...children growing up. Because when we were young she could multi-task...I digress...

Ok, so you don't think it's funny...yea, just say you do it too. LOL!

Here is another one that sort of ruffles my feathers...well I don't get upset about it. I just get the "stupid" look on my face.

As the POT (Pastor of Technology), a more appropriate title if I must wear one- smiles- it is my duty to communicate the goings on of the ministry to the members, as well as friends of New Life Temple. In this fabulous age of Social

Communication, no one has to be ill informed. Information can reach a mass of people with in mere seconds, thanks to high speed everything. And I love it!

But what fillets my goat (or is that cut), just kidding...but what I find so funny is when individuals ask me to communicate (tweet or Facebook) to the members "x y z," I always have to laugh, because many of them seem to be surprised by the "stupid look" I give them. Now, before anyone gets offended, remember this is the Lite Side, so keep a since of humor. The "stupid look" usually causes them to give an explanation as to why they are asking me to tweet the members. "Bishop said..." Of course the look remains the same, to which they are scrambling for the other words they didn't know they needed to give me.

So badly I want to ask them, "Why are you asking me to talk when you refuse to listen"? But instead I give a slight "angelic" smile- my Mum always said she didn't have any devils, so I can only give angelic smiles.

The people who insist they don't see the need to use twitter seem to be the ones who need me to use it for them, or the ones who get upset because no one told them what the others "heard" from the little blue bird. They want me to talk, but they won't listen...

Of course, it’s a matter of choice. No matter how much I would love to shove a twitter or Facebook account down their throat- just kidding, I promise- the choice remains theirs. As much as they may refuse to listen, then ask me to talk, the choice remains theirs. After over 2 years of NLTC using advance means of communications, people still say they had no idea that we are now using

microphones instead of an old 1930’s megaphone to communicate to the crowds.

Amazing! We often do this to God. Yep, the reason I can't be bitter that you won't embrace social communications (all smiles) is because I, like you, am in the canoe.

We often ask God to talk to us, keep us informed, show us our purpose, give us direction, and the list goes on and on. But then we, for whatever reason, refuse to "follow" (as in follow someone on twitter) Him. We give Him our list of "can you let someone know God that I need..."

but when it comes time to “follow” Him we choose to make excuses.

Maybe, we fall in the other group. We say, “Hey God can you give me a call I need you to do me a favor.” But when He does, we are preoccupied with more entertaining things. We lay out our request, but how often do we hear His?

In order for us to really know what God desires for us to know, we have to stop and take time to listen. And sometimes it goes against our comfort level or traditions- what worked when you first got saved may not be enough to stay connected to what God is doing NOW.

If you ask God to talk...then you have to take the time to listen. Otherwise don't get upset when He gives you the look - "I was talking but you weren't listening".

While making use of today’s new ways of communicating at the speed of light, as opposed to our grandparents turtle speed Pony Express, is a personal choice. Taking the time to hear what God is really saying is mandatory and a necessity to the very survival of every Christian.

Not hearing God clearly can cause painful results, or leave you on the slow network, while everyone else around you who are on the “4G connection” have already gotten the message.

Statement of Faith

We believe in one eternal God; infinite in power, holy in nature, attributes and purpose, as well as omniscient and omnipresent.

We believe this one true God, who revealed Himself as Father in Creation, as Son in redemption, and as Holy Ghost in regeneration.

We believe that - in Him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell.

We believe in the death, burial and resurrection.

We believe in being born again of water-by immersion in the name of the Lord “Jesus” Christ for the remission of sins, and in Spirit baptism of the Holy Ghost - speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

We believe in divine healing, communion and foot washing.

We believe in presenting our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.

We believe in expressions of praise with lifted hands, hand clapping, playing of musical instruments, voice of praise and dancing.

The purpose of New Life Temple Church is to instill the faith of Jesus Christ into the lives of all people, bringing them into spiritual perfection with a spirit of excellence.
