There are many ways that the devil (Satan) tries to deceive us… he often uses subtle tactics that we can easily excuse or justify. Do we rise up against him? Do we fight the good fight? “Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” - 1 Timothy 6:12 As the Letter to Timothy reveals to us, by fighting the ‘good fight of faith’ - i.e., holding onto the truth, resisting evil, clinging to what is good and holy, trusting our Creator, our Father, our Lord of love - we secure our eternal salvation! We begin to take hold of, here on earth, that life which we were created for in eternity! Our destiny as human beings is perfect union with God. We all have this deep longing for fulfillment, which we strive after vehemently in our lives. This fulfillment will only be fully realized when we are united with God in Heaven, for that is what we were created for. So in today’s Gospel, we hear testified that ‘if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand.’ If we root Satan - and all of his little subtle ways of trying to rule over us - out of us, he cannot stand! He sets himself up for failure by trying to get to us, only to be booted out! And we claim our dignity, our destiny, our identity as God’s children and heirs of ‘the eternal life to which we were called’! It is Jesus who has the power in us to overcome, to rise up. Pro-tip for fighting this good fight of faith and rising up against Satan: Spend time with Jesus. Know not just who you are fighting against, but SO much more importantly, who you are fighting for. It is He to whom you are called; rise up and fight for your faith, fight for that union with God, fight for your destiny, your call, your claim on eternal life! Cling to the King, so that whatever comes against you cannot stand. That hand reaching down from Heaven, is God’s hand, conferring grace on you to live loved, to live strong, to live sanctified. Pray. Spend time with the Lord and experience His presence pouring over you. June 10, 2018

Gospel Meditation How do we rise up? Do we rise up? There are many ways that the devil (Satan) tries to deceive us… he

often uses subtle tactics that we can easily excuse or justify. Do we

rise up against him? Do we fight the good fight?

“Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which

you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence

of many witnesses.” - 1 Timothy 6:12

As the Letter to Timothy reveals to us, by fighting the ‘good fight of

faith’ - i.e., holding onto the truth, resisting evil, clinging to what is

good and holy, trusting our Creator, our Father, our Lord of love - we

secure our eternal salvation! We begin to take hold of, here on earth,

that life which we were created for in eternity! Our destiny as human

beings is perfect union with God. We all have this deep longing for

fulfillment, which we strive after vehemently in our lives. This

fulfillment will only be fully realized when we are united with God in

Heaven, for that is what we were created for.

So in today’s Gospel, we hear testified that ‘if Satan has risen up

against himself and is divided, he cannot stand.’ If we root Satan - and

all of his little subtle ways of trying to rule over us - out of us, he cannot stand! He sets himself up for failure by

trying to get to us, only to be booted out! And we claim our dignity, our destiny, our identity as God’s children

and heirs of ‘the eternal life to which we were called’! It is Jesus who has the power in us to overcome, to rise up.

Pro-tip for fighting this good fight of faith and rising up against Satan: Spend time with Jesus. Know not just who

you are fighting against, but SO much more importantly, who you are fighting for. It is He to whom you are

called; rise up and fight for your faith, fight for that union with God, fight for your destiny, your call, your claim

on eternal life! Cling to the King, so that whatever comes against you cannot stand. That hand reaching down

from Heaven, is God’s hand, conferring grace on you to live loved, to live strong, to live sanctified. Pray. Spend

time with the Lord and experience His presence pouring over you.

We are looking for a crew of about 4 - 5 people to be in charge of setting up the tables and chairs on Saturdays before every breakfast. It usually takes about 45 minutes to set everything up, one Saturday a month.

We are also looking to have four individuals or families to be chairpersons for a breakfast for the months of June, July and August. This would only be for one Sunday a year in whichever month you choose.

Some of the duties would include: Recruiting about 12 people to help with baking the muffins and pastries, cracking eggs, cooking eggs,

filling juice glasses, making toast, helping with dishes, cleaning up and taking down the tables and chairs.

Contact Denise Rice (734) 512-7258 or Christy Craanen (734) 777-9861 if interested.

Office of Religious Education

St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Academy

Saint Charles and Saint Anne religious education needs catechists for

this next year in our evening programs!

Why become a catechist? At the end of his earthly ministry, Jesus said, “Go, therefore, and make disciples

of all nations.” What better way than teaching our youth? Taking time out of your life to teach about our

faith shows your own children, grandchildren, and the community that you put a high priority on religious

education. You are practicing stewardship by giving of your most precious resource, your time. As a

catechist, you will discover that you own relationship with God will become more vibrant and meaningful.

Stewardship is a vital aspect of our Catholic faith because it helps us live our

faith. If you want your child(ren) to have a supply of offertory envelopes,

please contact Gina Baker at [email protected] or call her 734-586-

2531. Children can either put money in the envelope; list a good deed or

skill/talent or all three!

Register at www.virtusonline.com for Protecting God’s Children for Adults if you plan to

help in athletics, schools or religious education at any Catholic parish. This mandatory

workshop will be held at several parishes including:

Where: Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, Newport

When: Tuesday, August 21, 2018 Time: 5:30 pm

As we come to the end of the school year, please accept my heartfelt

appreciation for the support that I have received from each one of you.

It has been a joy to share the school day with your children. I am

confident that we are looking towards another great year. Prayers for a safe, healthy and fun

summer break!

There is still time to register your children! Check with the school office for registration

information! Our Back to School Picnic is August 19. Mark your calendar! The First Day of

School is August 20.

Uniform Exchange

Outgrown and gently used uniforms

may be donated to our school uniform exchange. You may

drop off uniforms to the school office during the months of

June and August. Make sure that you stop by the Uniform

Exchange booth at our Back to School Picnic in August.

Dear St. Charles Parish & School Families, Thank you for your help and participation with this year’s Auction! Our event was a huge success and would not have been possible without each and every donation, volunteer, attendee, and bidder.

With the Blessing of Bishop Battersby our resurrected Auction was held and the results were better than last year and will be a great help to St. Charles Catholic Academy. If you attended our Auction this year we hope you enjoyed yourself at our “A Night in Candy Land” celebration! If you didn’t attend we encourage you to check it out next year! Our Auction will be held on Saturday March 9, 2019. Our theme for the 38th Annual Auction will be “A Day at the Races”. We hope it will be another fun and successful event. The Net Income for the Auction after all expenses was over $73,000. The Call for Cash amount was almost double that of last year and was $28,609. This money will be used to purchase new laptops for all of the teachers and the new principal. It will also be used to purchase our own set of risers for school concerts, and to purchase newer computers for the Academy Computer Lab, replacing our many outdated ones. Thanks again for making the evening a success!! We will see you after the Parish Festival in the Fall.

May God Bless All of You and Your Families,

Judy and John Sorovetz - Auction Co-Chairs
