GHS Year 10 RoSA Assessment Policy and Procedures 2018
Year 10 RoSA Assessment Policy and Procedures
Eligibility for the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) To qualify for the RoSA, a student must have: attended a government school, an accredited non-government school or a recognised school outside NSW; completed courses of study that satisfy the Board’s curriculum and assessment requirements for the RoSA; complied with all requirements imposed by the Minister or the Board; and completed Year 10.
A credential for school leavers While formal RoSA credentials are for school leavers, all Years 10 and 11 students will be able to access their results electronically and print a transcript of their results.
Students who leave school and satisfy eligibility requirements for the RoSA will receive the formal credential. Students who leave school but not eligible for a RoSA will receive a Transcript of Study at their departure. Students who receive their HSC will be able to receive a RoSA at the same time as their HSC, detailing their achievement in their earlier
years of study. Mandatory curriculum requirements The eligibility requirements for the RoSA are essentially unchanged from the School Certificate, except for the deletion of the School Certificate tests. Requirements relating to curriculum, school attendance and the completion of Year 10 are identical to those that previously applied for the School Certificate. Eligibility for the RoSA is outlined above. Gosford High School has developed an assessment program that covers the Board requirements, taking into account fairness to students and balance between courses.
Faculty Assessment Programs Faculties develop an Assessment Program for each course. This means the faculty will:
• Identify the student tasks which best measure each component. • Specify values to be applied to each of the tasks to maintain the relative importance of each of the components. • Schedule the various tasks throughout the course. • Prepare a statement for students showing the requirements in each course, before the commencement of the assessment program. This advice must include:
1. The components and weights for each course, and the week the tasks are due. Any changes to assessment dates must be given in writing and with two weeks notice approved by the Principal except where an extension of time is notified.
3
GHS Year 10 RoSA Assessment Policy and Procedures 2018
Faculty policies are written to conform to the Board of Studies Documents or approved assessment procedures in Board endorsed courses and within the following guidelines:
Each task should contribute not less than 5% and not more than 40% of the final mark and if the task does not discriminate between students, it may be followed by a similar task, but marks cannot be discarded.
Copies of the assessment records are made and kept in secure places. 2. Commencement of Assessment
Assessment commences in Term 1 Year 10 and concludes in Term 4 of the same year. 3. Notification of Assessment Results
Students are provided with information on their performance in each task (mark and/or rank). 4. “N” Determinations and Award of Zero Marks
4.1 “N” Determinations
Students and their parents/guardians will be notified when students are in danger of receiving an “N” determination through non-completion of course criteria in a subject. Official warnings will be issued when students have not:
(a) followed the course developed or endorsed by the Board of Studies (b) applied themselves with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course by the
school (c) achieved some or all of the course outcomes (d) made a genuine attempt at assessment tasks. (e) handed the task in on time, consequently being awarded zero. Official warnings are issued to give students the opportunity to redeem themselves. Official warnings are course specific not task
specific.
4.2 A zero mark is awarded for A task submitted after the due date, not submitting a task at all, a non-serious attempt or malpractice.
4.3.1 Malpractice includes:
4
GHS Year 10 RoSA Assessment Policy and Procedures 2018
Speaking to other students during an examination. Taking into an examination room any books, notes, paper or equipment other than the equipment allowed. Taking into an examination room a mobile phone or any other electrical or electronic device unless approved by the Board of Studies and Teaching Educational Standards (BOSTES).
Copying (plagiarising) work from another source, be it a student, a written text or an internet site. Exceeding time limits set for a project
Getting unauthorised assistance in the completion of a project or task. 5. Procedures
It is the student’s responsibility to follow these procedures.
• It is the student’s responsibility to complete the task. • Students will be awarded a N/A for tasks which are not attempted or considered to be a non-serious attempt, or where dishonesty is
proven. Students will be awarded zero for tasks which are not submitted on time. • Where a N/A or zero is awarded teachers must inform the Head Teacher before returning the task to the student.
If absent on the day a task is due, it is the student’s responsibility to:
• Contact the relevant teacher or Deputy Principal on the first day of absence • Obtain a medical certificate or other appropriate documentation which clearly states that the student is unfit to attend school for
assessment task/examination. • On the first day of return to school submit the doctor’s certificate or other documentation (see Appendix) to the Head Teacher of the
subject.
Do the task, an alternative task, or apply for an estimate. The Head Teacher will determine the most appropriate option. Concerns about inequity in the process should be referred to the Deputy Principal. If a student is absent when information about an assessment task is given out, a reasonable extension of time may be arranged by the
Head Teacher; a record of the circumstances must be kept. In cases where students have received prior information about the time an assessment task will be distributed, and a student is subsequently absent at that time, it is the student’s responsibility to collect the task.
6. Appeals
Students may request an appeal if they believe:
The school/faculty did not follow the procedures stated in the assessment program for that subject.
5
GHS Year 10 RoSA Assessment Policy and Procedures 2018
7. Please note marks awarded by the teacher for assessment tasks will not be subject to review.
The school review panel will consist of the Principal or Deputy Principal, the Head Teacher concerned and one other Head Teacher. The Year Adviser may act as student advocate in these cases.
8. Information and Advice
Advice on assessment is available from:
• The BOSTES website • The Deputy Principal and the Head Teacher of the faculty concerned • Head Teacher Welfare
9. Evaluation and Review The conduct of the assessment program will be monitored by an Assessment Committee comprising of the Principal, the Deputy Principal and Head Teacher. The policy and procedures are evaluated by the faculty and School Executive annually.
