Gorge Winds Board Meeting MinutesMarch 5, 2013

Call to order: By: Rick Cowart, President Time: 5:49pm Location: The Dalles Middle School, Rm 120

Members Present: Rick Cowart, President Betsy Frazier, Treasurer & Past-President Sam Grotte, Music Director Larry Loop, Co-Conductor

Linda Oram, Secretary Ed Price, Member-at-large Barbara Thrasher, Vice President

Approval of minutes: Amendment: none Motion: Ed moved to accept the minutes as presented. Second: Barb Approved: unanimous

Financial Report: No changes from last month. Motion: Ed moved to accept the report as presented. Second: Betsy Approved: unanimous

Old Business:

The copy machine is currently working; Sam has a lot of paper and a fair amount of toner. To replace thecopy machine would by at least $2000. Sam will provide an estimate of how many copies he does a year.

Wasco County Assessor’s Office: Sam submitted the capital equipment report. He was told we need togive them the report annually. Sam will take care of completing this form next year.

New Business:

New/more Concert Dates: many band members have indicated they would like to perform more often. 2nd Spring Concert Date in HR? HR County SD now has a new procedure for groups to perform in their facilaties. Rick would like to play at the HS.

Sam got a call from Phil Pasteris, Tualatin Valley CommunityBand, would like to partner with GWCCBto perform in the gorge. (Steve Husser, conductor) Sam suggested: The Civic (in the Ballroom), HoodRiver (WyEast Auditorium). (Rick also suggests the HR High) Cindy Williams (part of Comm. Ed)quoted facility use fees as: $25 clean-up, $25/rehearsal, $100/performance. Phil proposed Sunday, June14. Ed asks if we would start a new round of music after the spring concert. Sam suggested using some

of the same pieces and augmenting with some new ones. Rick asked the type of music. Sam says that has not been determined. Rick will poll the band tonight to see if they are interested in the additional June concert Sam will discuss Lewis and Clark Park and HR High with Phil. Maybe have some vendors to sell food?

2nd Christmas Concert Date in HR? We could do the same concert in both TD and HR

o Rick will check with the Civic for Dec 20th

o Betsy will call and check about the possibility of the 13th (2pm) or the 17th (7pm) for HoodRiver, checking with the High School

Ed asked about an earlier fall concert, such as a Pops Concert or Veterans’ Day Concert. Rick is thinking about performing at the new Armory, maybe for Veteran’s Day.

Other possible venues in the Gorge Area? Lewis & Clark Park: summer concerts in the park during July.

Other possible venues in Portland area? Sam would rather not. They have lots of music available. He would prefer us to play somewhere

east of here. Sam: received a request for a wedding in Goldendale on June 27, 4:30-7:00. He expressed to her she

probably didn’t want a concert band but there were some other possibilities. PO Box Rick call TD Post Office about getting a PO Box. Smallest Box is $31/6mo. There are LOTS of boxes

available. Don’t need to decide tonight. Would keep Larry’s address for the physical address for legal business.

Betsy on advertisement flyers: got a coupon for 35 cents / copy. Deadline is March 31st. Could Larry will talk with Chris Zucin on Sunday and will take care of the reader boards. Do we have a theme for the spring concert? Sam: new music will be coming from Wahtonka Sam: door to the storage area must be closed properly.
