P&C NEWS

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL We need you help! On Friday the 3rd of July (2nd week of term 3) the P&C will be managing the canteen as one of our biggest fundraiser of the year. As you can imagine this will be no easy task but that hasn’t stopped us before. We need as many hands on deck as possible, including extended family and friends to help cook and serve on the day. If we all contribute we all benefit. A timetable will be attached to the next newsletter and one beside the sign on book in the Library.

REMINDER- MUSIC TUITION

PROGRAM

It seems the tuition program being offered

by The Northern Rivers Music

Conservatorium on a Friday has not had

any takers as yet. I was under the opinion

that many of our students would like to do

this tutoring.

If you are still interested in this

opportunity it is urgent that you register

as soon as possible.

The music tutor, Andy has offered to

teach students vocals, piano and guitar.

Lessons will be rotated so students will

not be missing out on the same lesson

each week. NRC staff have undergone

working with children checks and

undertake annual child protection training.

Students are issued with a practice diary

each term, and are invited to perform in

twilight concerts which occur 12 times a

year here at the Conservatorium in

Lismore.

Enrolment in via the website

enrol.nrcac.edu.au

If you would like your child(ren) to

participate in this program please enrol

online ASAP as Andy is keen to begin

tutoring at Goolmangar PS.

STORY DOG PROGRAM

We welcome Melody (Mel) and Angel as weekly

visitors. They are coming to our school to support

our reading program. Orange Mufti Day will be held

on Wednesday 20 June. All students are invited to

wear orange as this is the colour of Angel, our story

dog’s jacket. Each child is asked to donate a gold

coin to this special organisation.

What is a comfort zone?

Our Opinions

Is there a limit to improving at a skill?

3 13

Becoming an Agile Learner

In becoming an agile learner our

students need to feel secure

stepping out of their comfort

zone. How many times as adults

do we need to do this? This

fortnight our focus is

understanding one’s comfort

zone.

Our comfort zone is “defined as

a place where one feels at ease

and without stress” and within

your comfort zone you feel

competent, safe and relatively in

control.

Ericson writes in his book, Peak

about understanding your

comfort zone and the need to

push beyond.

He states that if you never push

yourself beyond your comfort

zone, you will never improve.

Ericson discusses the amateur

pianist who took half a dozen

years of lessons when he was a

teenager but who for the past

thirty years has been playing the

same set of songs in the same

way over and over again may

have accumulated ten thousand

hours of ‘practice’ during that

time, but he is no better at

playing the piano than the was

thirty years ago. Indeed he’s

gotten worse (ref: p. 17, Peak:

Secrets from the New Science of

Expertise).

SHED – OUR GARAGE

We would like to thank Brett Whitney for excavating the area

for our new shed and Pat for organising this. He saved our

school over $5 000. We are still working on when the actual

shed will go ahead as we are waiting on B&T sheds to order in

the double garage kit.

BILLY CART TESTING

All students had a great

time testing the billy

carts on dare devils hill.

We are proud to say

they stood up to the

continual run up and

down the hill.

COMMUNITY DAY

Last Saturday was a great success, in combining our small communities. It shows the commitment and passion we have to supporting such events. The students made fantastic seed heads, planted seedlings and made seed recycled paper.

A massive thank you to the Greene family and Ari. Pat, Lena, Romy and Ari worked tirelessly all day.

Also many thanks to for all our donations:

Jim– for his great Koonorigan Mountain Coffee Beans.

Tony & Nghi– for lending us their coffee machine and providing milk.

Annette and Till– for donating a yummy passionfruit slice and lemons.

We raised $323 dollars for the P&C to fund our students throughout the year.

Congratulations to all our

students who sang in the

combined choir, our school

choir singing Italian songs

and came along to support

the day and have lots of fun!

We had 65% of our school

enrolment present on this

day.

Many thanks to Ms McEwen

and Mrs Rose for supporting

our students when

performing.
