Cross Country
Although the weather was cold and miserable, it was great to see the way the students participated in the cross country. They pushed themselves to their limit to complete the course then cheered on the other competitors. Thank you to Miss Sim and Mrs Brown for their organisation of the carnival. A huge thank you to all the teachers, parents and friends who assisted on the day in some many different ways; everyone’s effort made the day a great success.
NAPLAN Online
This week Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) Online assessments. We have Week 3 and 4 to complete them but due to the small numbers, we hope to complete them this week. Students are assessed on Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. Year 3 will do a pen and paper writing task and Year 5 complete the task online. The results of these tests will provide important information to schools about what each student can do and will be used to support teaching and learning programs. Parents will receive a report indicating their child’s level of achievement. Each student’s level of achievement will be reported against the national minimum standard. More information can be found at: https://www.nap.edu.au/docs/default-source/default-document-library/naplan-online-information-brochure-for-parents-and-carers.pdf?sfvrsn=4
School Uniform
As the weather is getting cooler and students are wearing jumpers and jackets to keep warm, it is important that all school uniforms are clearly marked with the student’s name.

K/1/2 News
It’s been all about mothers and our families this week. For speaking and listening we talked about our families and why we loved them. Some people brought in photos to help. In our class we had such a variety of families and the number of people in our families. It was good for us to know that no two families are alike and that sometimes brothers and sisters can be really… annoying!
We made a whole array of Mothers’ Day craft and cards. We really hope you liked them!
The cross country was on Friday. Luckily, the freezing cold weather, wind and rain didn’t deter our K/1/2s. It really started raining just in time for the 5 and 6 year olds’ race. Thankfully, our dutiful Year 6 students helped us run to make sure we felt safe and knew the way.
On top of all that, we have been putting the skills we have been learning in art into action. We have been creating a variety of artworks for Operation Art. We have been
experimenting with collage, paint, pastels and pencils. Here we are hard at work.
This is Austin’s piece ‘Robot in a rainbow’.

3/4 News
This week will be a busy week with the Year 3 students completing NAPLAN with the Year 5 students. Our normal weekly learning activities will change slightly. During maths students will be revising multiples of 5 and learning more about different mathematical

strategies to add and subtract larger numbers.
Last week was a busy week in the classroom and with the school cross country, we didn’t get to view the movie the BFG. This week students will have the chance to watch the movie and begin planning their persuasive writing based on the movie using the different writing strategies e.g. text structure and language devices. Students in 3/4 enjoyed acting out their spelling words to support their writing development during spelling activities.
Operation Art artworks are still underway during creative arts lessons for 3-6. All the students have some interesting and engaging artworks so it will be hard for the staff to select which ones we will be able to submit.

5/6 News
Good luck to all Year 5 students who are completing the NAPLAN tests this week. Remember to stay cool, calm and collected and try your best.
It will be as normal for the Year 6 students. They will still have spelling, word of day activities, comprehension tasks from the book Unreal and a persuasive writing text to complete.
In maths, we are developing our addition and subtraction skills by creating a budget for two people going away on a holiday for 5 days at a holiday resort. The students only have $2000 spending money to plan activities and buy food to eat. It is proving to be quite a challenging task with lots of adding and adjusting.
For sport, we have been playing games to help us to develop skills to participate in
invasion games such as oztag, touch football and rugby league.

ProTen Cup Knockout In Goolgowi
Saturday saw Goolgowi host the 2nd annual ProTen Community Cup Knockout in front of a crowd nearing 800.
Although a little cool, the day was a huge improvement on the miserable weather we encountered Friday, and this ensured there were plenty of spectators in attendance.
The event got underway at 10.30am with the final being played at 4.00pm. Goolgowi were extremely unlucky to not book a spot in the final as they did not lose a game in their 2 pool matches. In their first hit it out it was a Grand Final replay only this time The Rabbitohs were the victors. Billy Hale and Danny Graham each scored in the first half, with Billy landing both attempts at goal. The second 20 minute stanza was scoreless and Goolgowi ran out winners 12-0.
In their second game, Narrandera got away to a great start and went to the break leading 12-0. A strong second half by Goolgowi saw Billy Hale cross again, as well as Alex Brown, with Billy kicking both goals. When the siren sounded scores were locked at 12-all with Narrandera deemed winners as they were the first try scorers.
