Company Overview

• www.google.com

• World’s most popular search engine, serving hundreds of thousands of users and customers around the world on a daily basis

• Makes browsing the web simple and fast

• “Understands exactly what you mean and gives you back exactly what you want”

• “Google” is a play on the word “googol,” a mathematical term for 1 followed by 100 zeros.

History

• Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who first met at Stanford University in 1995

• Officially launched in 1998

• Created a search engine that uses web links to determine importance of individual webpages

• Headquarters in Mountain View, California; aka “Googleplex”

• Went public in August, 2004

• European Tax Authorities use the “street view” feature on Google Maps to investigate suspected tax violations regarding housing construction and property sales

Daily Caller“Search Safety Gives Google Slight Edge Over Bing”

• An 18 month study conducted by the AV Test Institute in Germany concluded that Bing is five times more likely than competitor Google to render malicious results from a web search

• Study results included that out of 11 million websites in a search, Bing brought up almost 1,300 malicious sites, while Google had only just shy of 300
