Great Achievements

Goodwood Primary School Choir performs as part of the Festival of Music

On 13th of September, our Goodwood Primary School Choir performed on stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part of the

Public Primary Schools Festival of Music. Our choir was made up of fifty-six Year 6 and 7 students who had trained weekly with our highly-skilled choir trainer, Gay Woods, since February. This year, for the first time in many years, the choir was made up of over one thousand students returning to the past, when the choral festival was known as The Thousand Voice Choir. In our concert, thirty-six schools were represented in the combined choir!

The Primary Schools Festival of Music, an official state icon, is a public school-based music education program. It is a collaboration between DECD and the SAPPS Music Society, which gives all SA public primary students the opportunity to perform at a prestigious venue. Each year, the Festival of Music brings together public primary schools from across SA for fabulous concert performances. This year, the Festival started with a big bang, as an ‘Arena Percussion Group’ opened the concert while

all 1000 students filed onto stage. Five of our students represented our school in this percussion group. The commissioned work was entitled ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ which was a series of five songs based around the popular classical composition ‘The Nutcracker Suite’, and the concert ended with the pop song ‘Live Louder’.

Outstanding musical, orchestral, choral and dance item performances were also showcased between choir songs, demonstrating the musical talents of students around the state. It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed being a part of. I’d like to thank the parents and teachers who assisted with supervision at our off-site rehearsals – Thi Xa, Lesley, Jen,

Bec, Amanda, Graeme and Catherine. A big ‘thank you’ also goes to our students for their dedication, commitment and hard work over the last seven months. I am extremely proud of the way they represented our school at the off-site rehearsals as well as during the performance at the Entertainment Centre. They always conducted themselves in a responsible and professional manner. Our choir will perform two songs from our Festival repertoire at the Week 10 assembly. Diane Toole

Taiko Ensemble Congratulations to our students from the Taiko Ensemble who performed at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part

of the Festival of Music..

Disco fun!! What a great

parents who volunteered to help make this

night a memorable one.

Gravity Light By Kaitlin Amanda Mohais

Recently I have researched a device called a Gravity Light. This device simply works by lifting a 12kg bag full of weights to a high point above the ground. As you let the bag go, it drops very slowly and a small bulb illuminates. It uses kinetic and potential energy, converting it into light. Kinetic energy is the energy from being in movement and potential energy is the energy from potentially falling from a height. In the Gravity Light it uses transformations of all three types of energy; potential, kinetic and electrical energy. It was invented for people who cannot afford or access electricity. When released at its highest point, the light will last for approximately 20 minutes. This device uses a pulley which is one of the six simple machines. Greg Ludvigsen had inspired me and my dad to investigate this topic. Deb Brassington allowed us to use the school as the background location and Liam McComb taught us about pullies and the six simple machines, he also showed me how to publish a video that I had done for this project. My dad bought the device and helped with the setting up and building it. The main part of researching was up to me. This was a very interesting topic that I am sure others would like to investigate more about, so if you are interested just let me know. I would be happy to teach you more about how it works and how the bag doesn’t drop straight to the ground.

Transition Visits

Our Preschool children had their first two transition

visits in weeks 8 and 9. They experienced a

tour of the school including the Goody Patch. What fun they

had...

Some of our reception students loved going back

to kindy and having a play… Where has that

time gone!
