Northeast Coil, Inc. specializes in cleaning HVAC and Refrigeration Condenser Coils, Evaporator Coils, Heat Reclaim Coils, Walk-In Cooler Coils, and the cleaning of Cooling Towers. They service thousands of commercial and industrial facilities up and down the east coast and are known for having the most unique cleaning process in the industry. Their custom built mobile cleaning trucks allow them to set the highest cleaning standards for quality and efficiency in the industry.

As everyone knows, in this industry some of the coils are not always installed with the thought of having to clean them at a later date, says Matt Jacobs, president of Northeast Coil. We needed a more portable way to access these coils when we were not able to use our mobile cleaning trucks. Goodway was our solution. Goodway equipment allows us to access any coil no matter where it is located without jeopardizing our cleaning standards.

The saying you get what you pay for holds very true for the Goodway products, the initial investment is high but the equipment is very robust that last through many years of abuse. All our mobile cleaning trucks are equipped with Goodway CC-100 Backpack CoilPros, CC-JR CoilPros, CC-140 CoilPros and GPW-1000 pressure washers. When it comes to cooling tower cleanings, Goodways CTV-1501 TowerVac and CTV-F2 TowerVac Filter allowed us to offer our customers the option of cleaning there tower basins without draining the water and chemicals out. This has been a great sales tool for us. We are now starting a Tube Cleaning division and Goodway Ream-A-Matic Tube Cleaners are what we will be cleaning with.

Northeast Coil has had a great experience with Goodway products and service for the past seven years and will continue to supply our mobile cleaning trucks with Goodway products.

Meet Mr. PrototypeWe have a full blown machine shop where we can pretty much fabricate any of our machines, says Joseph Franzino, design engineering manager at Goodway. Then whatever they build, they beat the hell out of it to make sure its up to snuff.

Some of the machines that we sold 30 years ago, we still get back for repairs, says Joseph. We try to design and build our machines so they can take a roll down a flight of stairs and still work.

Seriously? A roll down a flight of stairs? Some of our contractors beat up our machines pretty good, Joseph continues. Its OK. Goodway can take it.

Joseph directs a staff of three design engineers and a model maker. They design, engineer and build the prototypes for all Goodway machines. We can test prototypes for six months to a year, he says. We run them for months on end until they fail.

Literally? Months on end? We run them remotely, Joseph explains. In some cases we set up a web cam and remotely monitor them from our desks. If you hear a different noise, you know to go down and address the issue. We come in the morning and turn on the prototypes and turn them off in the evening when we go home.

In addition to the in-house testing, Goodway runs an outside pilot program where customers field test the prototypes in real word situations.

When we put out a product, we know its good for the application, says Joseph. Of course, Goodways reputation is on the line, but is there any self-interest involved here? Sure, says Joseph, when theres a problem, it comes back to me!

Dont forget, in the old days you had to rod the tubes, and then youd flush them. Youd have a guy at each end of the machine. One guy would push the rod into the tube, and the other guy would grab it at the other end and pull it out. Then youd flush the tube out with water.

But that primitive method took a long time. Oh, forget it weeks! With Goodways automatic machines its just a few days. And now you dont mind cleaning them, either. Its good, especially if youre getting old, he laughs. I wish the young people could see how we used to do it.

Fresh Meadow uses the Goodway RAM-5 and RAM-6 tube cleaners. We just bought two new machines altogether we have about five. The time savings add up quickly when youre cleaning large chillers. Youre talking 2,500 tubes in each section 5,000 on a machine, he explains. We start a job with two men to drop the heads, but then its a one-man job. Plus, if you

have a really dirty tube you can go back in a couple of times and clean it out.

Fortunately, the RAMs are built to clean a lot of tubes. Oh, my God, Im surprised they hold up so well. We clean a bazillion tubes a year they definitely get their use. Im on a job right now where weve got 30,000 tubes. Yeah, and this is just one building. Weve got another job over on 72nd street with another 30,000.

According to Jim, the machines keep getting better. With the new ones you can dial down the speed. In the city we get problems with scale, and the tubes can get really clogged up. So before, if you fired these things into a clogged tube at full speed, you could snap the cable & mess up the brush. Well, you live and learn. But now you can turn the speed down.

But dont dial it down too much, Jim. Youve still got 30,000 tubes over on 72nd Street.

Same-Day...Every Day!When shipping manager Ruben Medina came to the U.S. from Colombia he didnt speak English. His first job at Goodway, twenty-six years ago, was in assembly. My training was kind of show and tell, he laughs.

When he moved to the shipping department, he remembers it being a hard job. Back then we had to write everything down in a book, and I still didnt speak English well.

But Ruben learned English and how to run a shipping department. After I trained several people to be my boss, I decided to apply for the job myself.

In many ways, the job is still a challenge. As a company, we have a goal of same-day shipping for at least ninety percent of the orders that come in that day, says Ruben, so purchasing, production and shipping all have to work together. We have to communicate to reach that ninety percent.

And we have to be sure to put orders together properly, he emphasizes. We have only a .4 percent average of mistakes.

Ruben manages a staff of seven. The first three months of the year is our busiest timethats chiller season. Merchandise moves out of here the opposite of the weather, Ruben explains. People clean their air conditioners in February and March, and they clean their boilers in the summer. You have to clean it when its not running, you know, he laughs. You have to turn it off.

Though eighty percent of the orders are shipped domestically, Ruben and his guys ship all over the world. You name it, we go there. Sometimes we ship to countries Ive never heard of in my life, Ruben laughs.

I love this place, says Ruben. We have a very good group at Goodway. We help each other. Its a good environment. Twenty-six years here has a little meaning, dont you think?
