Don’t Dis HonorApplication Activity

Lesson 7 - I Will Honor God With My Actions!

PURPOSE: This activity will show the children that acting with dishonor, destroys our honor, not the other person’s.

DESCRIPTION: The children will play a game in which they will tear paper and throw it as an example of showing dishonor to others.

MATERIALS NEEDED: You will need this Help Sheet, a coin, and tape. For each child you will need the “My Honor Page Lesson 7” from the Lesson Materials CD-ROM.

Note: Fold and tape closed the My Honor Pages ahead of time so that the children cannot see what is written inside.

TO INTRODUCE THE ACTIVITY:1. Let’s say our Main Point together. I Will Honor God With My Actions! 2. We have been learning today that anytime we don’t show honor, we bring dishonor to God.3. Some people use the word, “dis” to mean dishonor or disrespect.4. “Dis” can also be a prefix for words like “disassemble” which means to take apart.5. We are going to see today what happens when we dis others.

For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity, see the Small Group Leader DVD.

Note: Have all the children sit in a circle and hand them the rolled up My Honor Pages.

DURING THE ACTIVITY:1. All of you will first flip this coin. If the coin lands on heads, you will show honor in the game.2. If the coin lands on tails, you will show dishonor in the game.3. One at a time you will come to the center and be the Target.4. You must flip the coin again to see if you will be the Target of honor or the Target of dishonor.5. If you flip and it lands “heads” then all those who got heads when they flipped the coin will get up and

honor you by giving you a high-five, a thumbs up, a handshake, or a hug.6. If you flip and it lands “tails” then all those who got tails will laugh at you and tear off a piece of their

paper and throw it at you.

Note: Keep playing until all of the children have had at least one chance to have paper thrown at them.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY:1. Throwing the paper at the Target was a pretty good visual of what it is like when we throw dishonor at

someone in our lives.2. Now I want to reveal what is on your papers. I want you to unfold them now.3. The papers say Honor on them. Those of you who dissed our Targets by throwing paper at them

answer this question. Whose honor were you destroying? Yours or the Targets’? (Mine. Ours.)4. When we dis others and don’t show honor, we are actually disassembling and destroying our own

honor, not theirs.5. The only people in this circle whose honor is intact are the ones who never dissed others.6. In this game it was determined ahead of time whether you would show honor or not. You didn’t have

a choice.7. In life you do have a choice to show honor and you can decide ahead of time to do it.

CLOSING STATEMENT:When we dis honor others or dishonor God, THEY don’t lose honor. We do. When we dis others, we are really dis-honoring ourselves.

Stop. Honor TimeApplication Activity

Lesson 7 - I Will Honor God With My Actions!

PURPOSE: This activity will help the children make a specific plan to honor others with their actions.

DESCRIPTION: The children will make a schedule to honor people with their actions this week.

MATERIALS NEEDED: You will need this Help Sheet. Each child will need writing materials, scissors, a glue stick, and the “Honor Time Schedule Lesson 7” and “Honor Time Activities Lesson 7” from the Lesson Materials CD-ROM.

TO INTRODUCE THE ACTIVITY:1. Let’s say our Main Point together. I Will Honor God With My Actions! 2. It’s easy to say that we will honor people with our actions, but we are going to do more than

that today.3. We are going to make a specific schedule and plan to honor some people with our actions this week.4. Then I expect you to honor the schedule you make and actually do the actions that we put down.5. Let’s get started.

For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity, see the Small Group Leader DVD.

DURING THE ACTIVITY:1. There are five categories of honor that you can choose from: pray, talk about church and invite friends,

sing a song to God, do something to help someone else, and share what you have with others.2. In each category that you choose you will need to come up with a specific action that you choose.3. For example, if you choose the category of doing something to help someone else, you will need to

come up with a specific action. For example: raking my neighbor’s yard, or cleaning up after dinner without being asked.

4. Choose one category for each day and glue it down. Then write in your specific action.

Note: Be ready to make suggestions of specific actions if the children cannot think of any. Some suggestions are listed with the Honor Actions Categories below.• Pray - Pray in front of your friends, for example: at lunch at school. Pray for your friends. Pray with your

friends about their problems.• Talk about church and invite friends - Tell your friends what you learned about at church this week. Invite

your friends to come to church with you. Tell your friends how much fun you have at church.• Sing a song to God - Sing worship songs in the car with your family. Teach one of your friends the motions

to one of our songs from church. Sing one of our church songs to God in the morning when you get up.

• Do something to help someone else - Clean your brother or sister’s room for them. Offer to get your parents something to drink. Clean something around the house without being asked.

• Share what you have with others - Save some money and buy a small present for someone. Bring an extra dessert to share. Give away some of your nice clothes. Choose some toys or games to sell and give the money to the church or to the needy.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY:1. Opportunities to act with honor will pop up in life from time to time and we should act with honor at

those times, but we should also make plans to honor others.2. Be sure to honor your plans and carry out these honorable actions this week.

CLOSING STATEMENT:Honoring others doesn’t happen by accident. We have to make an effort and plan to honor others whenever we can.
