Eligibility for program

• 2.5 GPA

• Junior or senior class standing (by the time the program starts)

• Have met pre-requisites for the internship course of your major

• Strong English language skills (international students)

You must be in one of the listed departments or majors:

•A&D, AGEC, ANTH, BIOL, CGT, CHM, COM, CS, ENGL, HDFS, HIST, HTM, MGMT (all majors), NUTR, POL, PSY, PUBH, SOC, STAT, TLI (OL, HRD), THTR, YDAE

Additional Requirements

• Independence and self-reliance

• A declared major in an approved department

• A high level of maturity

• Advanced communication skills

• Ability to adapt to challenging or frustrating experiences

Program Structure

Remote Internship + Global Internship Seminar = 3 credits in your major!

Students may list preference, but location will be determined based on the best fit for the internship placement. A specific location is not guaranteed.

The Internship

• Guaranteed placement within your major

• Work 140 hours for your internship site

• Many internships will be project-based with regular check-ins with your supervisor

Credit is determined by major:

Pre-Placement Orientation

• The comprehensive Pre-placement Orientation prepares students for a fulfilling and successful Remote Global Internship, including training in:• Communication tools training, including Zoom

and Google Hangouts

• Presentation technologies, including how to create narrated Google Slides presentations

• Digital recording programs such as Screencast-O-Matic for synchronous and asynchronous use

Global Internship SeminarThrough a variety of teaching methods (lecture, workshop, discussion, informal and formal presentations, self-guided and guided research, and mock interviews), the seminar is designed to help students understand working culture in different countries, gain intercultural competence, and develop personal and professional skills needed for the workforce.

Internship Placement Process

• Students fill out a questionnaire and list their top three areas within their major in which they want to gain experience

• Our trusted partner, CAPA, has an internship team in each location that goes to work finding a placement for you

• Once a placement is identified, students are often asked to do a virtual interview to confirm placement

• You do not get a list of places to choose from, as each placement is individualized to your preferences

• We cannot guarantee specific placements, but do guarantee it will be relevant to your major

Application Process

• Step 1: complete application

• Step 2: conditional acceptance

• Step 3: attend required virtual advising meeting

• Step 4: resume, cover letter, placement areas

• Step 5: full acceptance

Application Requirements• Apply online at Purdue’s Study Abroad Website

• Transcript (must include Fall 2020 grades)

• Statement of Purpose

• Two letters of recommendation:

• One academic reference (online form)

• One work-related reference on company letterhead and signed

Note: If you are NOT a U.S. citizen and are from a non English-speaking country you will be required to complete a SKYPE interview with CAPA staff and show English language scores no older than 3.5 years.

Cost

•We are still working on exact cost for this program, but it should be approximately $2,000.

•Cost will be the same for in-state, out-of-state, and international students.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

• Most summer financial aid requires students to be taking at least 6 credits.

• Students taking an online class or in-person class through Purdue in addition to the remote internship may be eligible for aid and should fill out the Summer Financial Aid Application (available in January).

• Students who receive a Pell Grant may be eligible to apply for the Gilman Scholarship.
