ASK A FRANCISCAN… I had an attorney draw up a living will regarding my
health, specifically not to have a feeding tube. Since then,
I wondered if I did the correct thing.
You did well to make this provision, but you might have done
better if you had drawn up a medical power of attorney, which
gives more discretion to the person you select to make these
decisions, should you be unable to do so. By definition, a living
will tends to cover medical procedures available only at the
time it was drawn up.
A Message from Fr. Tim Holy Trinity Sunday
June 7, 2020
Greetings and prayers:
This weekend we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. When I reflect on the Holy Trinity, I think of the family of God and all the love that exists between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As in our own family, we celebrate joy and sorrow, and regardless of our ethnic heritage we go to our families for strength, consolation, and unconditional love. It is in the Holy Trinity we find all of these.
Although our focus on the corona virus is waning, and we thank God every day that the threat lessens for us in Sussex County, our country is dealing with and suffering from the injustice of the tragic death of George Floyd. It is under-standable that people would want to protest and march because of this injustice. However, when the line is crossed and we begin matching evil with evil such as violence, rioting, looting and the destruction of property, justice is not served, and injustice is not honored nor righted.
We continue to await patiently for the Governor’s decision to open the houses of worship. While our patience has been stretched during this time, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. In preparation for the opening of the parish, we have been planning a phased process while adapt-ing the diocesan guidelines. It is expected that initially our church capacity will be reduced. Hence, we have signs in all the pews indicating a number for seating, while also allowing for the six feet of social distancing requirements. Additional-ly, we will be developing an instructional video to be posted online, highlighting our procedures. Lastly, two of our weekend Masses will continue to be livestreamed to accom-modate those who feel at this time, that is their best option.
We are grateful for the ongoing support, generosity and all
those who continue to reach out to us. Also, we are thankful
to those individuals, who daily are living the inner love of
the Trinity by caring for their families, friends, and neigh-
bors. As Jesus reminds us in John 3:16, God so loved the
world, and it is out of His initiative that He did not want to
condemn the world but save it.
Peace,
Fr. Tim
The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith and life. God reveals himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the Trinity includes three truths of faith.
First, the Trinity is One. We do not speak of three gods but of one God. Each of the Persons is fully God. They are a unity of Persons in one divine nature.
Second, the Divine Persons are distinct from each other. Father, Son, and Spirit are not three appearances or modes of God, but three identifiable persons, each fully God in a way distinct from the others.
Third, the Divine Persons are in relation to each other. The distinction of each is understood only in reference to the others. The Father cannot be the Father without the Son, nor can the Son be the Son without the Father. The Holy Spirit is related to the Father and the Son who both send him forth.
All Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The Trinity illumines all the other mysteries of faith.

THE MYSTERY OF THE HOLY TRINITY
Today on Trinity Sunday, we celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity, one God in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God the Father, out of love for the world, sent His Son, Jesus, into the world in order to save it. Through the death and resurrection of the Son, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is three distinct persons in one GOD, as shown when Jesus
prays to the Father and asks for “another counselor” for the disciples. Jesus who prays; the Father who sends; and the Spirit who comes:
“And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you .” [John 14:16-17] (National Catholic Register Jimmy Akin 5/26/2013)
As adults, the mystery of the Holy Trinity may be hard for the faithful, and for children it is concep-tually a challenge as well. The use of a symbol can be very helpful to make sense of the Trinity. An ap-ple is a good symbol as an illustration for children. An apple has three parts: the seeds, the flesh, and the skin. If you cut an apple in half, you can see that each of these three parts are different. The seeds look different from the flesh, which looks different from the skin. Each serves a very different purpose, but they are all equally an apple. The skin is like God the Father, because He protects and loves us. The flesh is like God the Son, because Jesus Christ took on human flesh to save us. The seeds are like God the Holy Spirit, because He helps us to grow. Each of the parts of an apple is different, but they are all “apple”. (RER 10/15/13 Shannon Whitmore)

WE’VE BEEN ASKED TO ANNOUNCE:
Saint Ephrem Deacon and Doctor of the Church FEAST DAY: June 9, 2020 Known to Syrian Christians as "the harp of the Holy Ghost," this Mesopotamian from Nisibia was baptized at 18 and may have accompanied his bishop to the Council of Nicaea in 325. He served as head of the cathedral school and left Nisibia only after it became Persian. In 363, he moved to a cave overlooking Edessa but preached frequently in the city and wrote many poems, hymns and biblical commentaries; he organized a choir of women to sing his hymns during liturgies. About 370, he visited St. Basil in Caesarea. The winter before his death, he earned praise for managing relief supplies during a severe famine in Edessa. Ephraem is the only Syrian father declared a doctor of the church.
