April 29, 2018 ~ 5th Sunday of Easter Remain in Me In this day and age, many of us are trying to bear fruit on our own. In the words of Dr. Phil, how is that working for you.Have you ever noticed that when you try to do things on your own it tends to be fruitless? It doesnt feed the soul or the souls around us. It has no lasting impact. In an honest sense of the word, it can be truly depressing. Life is not meant to be that. The first challenge, is to root ourselves to Christ? Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit? There is a God and its not me. Thats why we can be so fruitless. Doing it our way we are actually fighting the life-giving source of energy that makes the world go round, God. Make Christ our root. Turn our will over to the one who cares for us. I am not saying a blind obedience. Its an obedience that we can readily discern will give life. It wasnt blind obedience that Jesus died on the cross. He knew that he would be raised up and that his little community would be raised up to be the light of the world. The second challenge, Christ lives in community. You can not say that you are rooted in Christ and not rooted in community. We are an incarnational people which means that Christ lives in the flesh in community. Are we fighting working with community? Again, we find ourselves fighting that life-giving energy of God. We can pretend that we are working in community, but secretly doing our own separate ministry not seeing how we are connected to the whole. Connect to the whole. This is heaven. Pull together. Mother’s Day cards to benefit Birthright of

Hillsboro will be at our church entrance on

the weekends of April 15, 22, 29 and May 6.

When you choose to send a card to your

loved one and a donation to Birthright, you

make it possible for mothers who face many

challenges during their pregnancies to choose

life for their unborn child. Birthright pro-

vides support to each woman and child dur-

ing and after her pregnancy, with essentials

such as diapers, formula, clothing and more.

Thank you for your support.

Branches that Do Not Bear Fruit Are Trimmed

The Gospel today makes clear, once again, that when we are

united with Jesus we will bear fruit, pruned of the branches

that do not bear fruit. God expects results! Love, in words

only, is not sufficient. Deeds must follow. Branches that fail

to bear fruit are cut away from the vine. Not easy words to

hear.

FOR IT IS IN GIVING THAT WE RECEIVE

“Children, let us love not in

word or speech but in deed

and truth.” – 1 JOHN 3:18

Regarding our Catholic

faith, do you “walk the

talk?” Do your actions re-

flect what it means to be a

good disciple? Are you an

active participant at Sun-

day Mass? Are you joyful

when participating in par-

ish ministry? Do you give

gratefully and generously

with your financial support

to your parish and other

Church needs? If not, it’s

not too late to start!
