FUNDING LAND ACQUISITION: OUR PRIORITY Since all of our current projects have already been funded, we only have one left: our land acquisition project to improve church traffic flow. Let’s fund this project as soon as possible so that we don’t have to use up all of our operating monies in order to pay the interest on this loan.

DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA IN ROME

Cathedral of the Diocese of Rome

November 9

“Today is the universal feast marking the anniversary of the dedication of the cathedral church of Rome. Consecrated on this day in 324 on the grounds of the Lateran Palace, it is the first Roman church erected after the Peace of Constantine. Although this Basilica was originally dedicated to Our Savior, it was renamed the Lateran Basilica after St. John the Baptist in the twelfth century. Later the inscription ‘mother and head of all churches of Rome and the world’ was placed on its façade. We honor the Pope’s Cathedral Church.” Father Richard

PASTOR’S VISION STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Actively engaged in the overarching goal of evangelization, we commit ourselves to making missionary disciples in the Franciscan tradition of seeking out the lost in need of reconciliation and conversion of heart to God, the Church, to oneself and others, to come to a personal relationship with Jesus in the Spirit of peace and joy of the Gospel. Father Richard

May I suggest that you continue giving for this project through

recurring donations on Faith Direct, by check to the parish with the words Land Acquisition on the

Memo Line, or by using the envelope that the parish will

provide for this purpose. You may pick up this envelope at the

information desk in the church or parish office. Texting a $ amount to

817-373-5557 is another way to give, or text “Enroll” if you are not

already signed up with Faith Direct. With our combined efforts on a

continuous basis, we can do it! Count your Blessings and be generous!

Third Order Regular: Franciscan Rule and Life

Chapter 1: Our Identity 1. The form of life of the Brothers and Sisters is this: to observe the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, in poverty and in chastity. Following Jesus Christ after the example of St. Francis, let them recog-nize that they are called to make greater efforts in their observance of the precepts and counsels of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Let them deny themselves (cf. Mt 16-24) as each has promised the Lord. 2. With all in the holy Catholic and apostolic Church who wish to serve the Lord, the brothers and sisters of this order are to persevere in true faith and penance. They wish to live this evangelical conversion of life in a spirit of prayer, of poverty, and of humility. Therefore, let them abstain from all evil and persevere to the end in doing good because God the Son himself will come again in glory and will say to all who acknowledge, adore and serve him in sincere repentance: “Come blessed of my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world.” (Mt. 25:34) 3. The sisters and brothers promise obedience and rev-erence to the Pope and the Holy Catholic Church. In this same spirit they are to obey those called to be ministers and servants of their own fraternity. And wherever they are, or in whatever situation they are in, they should dili-gently and fervently show reverence and honor to one another. They should also foster unity and communion with all the members of the Franciscan family.

Hosted by the Knights of Columbus Saturday, November 9 6:30 - 7:30pm | Parish Hall This Rosary’s intentions are for veterans who’ve been physically disabled or are suffering mentally from the effects of war, as well as for

their families. Light snacks & drinks follow. All welcome!

Shepherd’s Teaching: Reverence & Etiquette at Mass

The best time for us to prepare for Mass is during the week by praying over the readings for our full, active and conscious participation when we come to Mass. We gather on the Day of the Lord to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of the Lord’s Death and Resurrection. Because we are meeting the Lord in Word and Sacrament, modesty in dress and at least business casual is most appropriate. Parents are the best models for good manners when teaching their children such behaviors as not chewing gum at Mass. Without judging why some may come late or leave early from Mass (for there may be good reasons at times), others may have developed a habit that ought to be broken. Planning to arrive 15 minutes

early and already being seated before Mass begins helps all of us have some personal time for reflection and prayer. Once Mass begins we move from personal prayer to community prayer and worship of our triune God: Father, through the Son, and in the Holy Spirit. The Rites of the Mass are public and communal worship of the people of God. At Sunday Mass we are all in communion with the Local Church of the entire Diocese of Fort Worth and with the Bishop who is the chief priest of our diocese. Just as Word and Eucharist are public worship at Mass, so too are all of the other Sacraments of the Church public worship and not our own private devotions. Members of the Assembly are the Body of Christ by their Baptism and we are in communion with the presiding priest, who acts in the person of Christ, the Head of the Body, by his Ordination. When we gather together as the Assembly, we become the Womb of God, giving birth to new members by celebrating publically the initiation Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at Mass and at the Easter Vigil. At the Last Supper the Lord Jesus gave us his own Body and Blood in the everlasting New Covenant of his saving Death and Resurrection. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Church’s life and makes present in sacrament the living mystery of the Lord’s Passover from death to life. The sacrifice he anticipated on Holy Thursday was consummated on Good Friday as the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Our participation in the Mass gives us a unique share in his Passover for the Eucharist gives us a share in his divine life. Participating with reverence and etiquette at Mass is of utmost importance. Most especially, the reverence with which we receive the most precious Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist ought to be clear and intentional. Receive Communion in the hand by cradling one hand in the other or on the tongue that is visibly outside of the mouth. Another example is the use of applause at Mass. It is only permissible when the ordained presider calls upon the assembly to acknowledge and affirm those who receive sacraments, such as Baptism, First Communion, Marriage and Ordination or the blessing of couples celebrating marriage anniversaries. Spontaneous applause is inappropriate at other times during the Mass, such as after a layperson reads the Word of God at Mass or after the ordained clergy has proclaimed the Gospel or preached a homily. Applause is never appropriate during the Liturgy of the Eucharist: the Preparation of the Gifts or after hymns or meditation songs by choir members or by a cantor during the Communion Rite. These readings, proclamations, hymns and songs are not public performances. They are rather accompaniments to our prayer, meditation and communal worship. We are called to a posture of meditative reverence during these times at the Mass. Let us remind one another that we are in sacred time and in a sacred space and that our proper participation promotes piety and devotion that is consonant with the holiness of the Divine Liturgy.

Statement of Faith: Robin R

My faith journey has been an adventure searching for what’s been missing. Almost like realizing there is a piece missing from the box as you are just about to complete a puzzle, only with several pieces missing from scattered areas, leaving sizable holes in the picture. I have tried filling in the gaps with a variety of things over the years; Relationships, substances, anger, self-help books from a variety of viewpoints and visits to various churches of varying faiths. Nothing seemed to fit. I did not grow up going to church. My mother taught us to pray to Jesus often and to always keep our faith and trust in God. However, having faith and believing was always a remarkably difficult and foreign idea for me. I knew how to pray, I knew about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but I didn’t understand how to have a relationship with them.

As I bounced around trying to navigate life, grew into a functioning independent adult, and continued to search for my missing puzzle pieces, I often felt alone. I could be in a crowded room or hanging out with friends, but there would remain a tinge of loneliness that I just couldn’t shake. Almost like I didn’t fit or belong anywhere. I didn’t have a strong cultural or heritage connection that made me feel connected. In times of need I knew I could always turn to my family, but nothing larger. Growing up, my mother would often speak of how amazing the Catholic Church was. Her list of reasons was quite extensive, but what stuck out to me the most, and really started my Journey toward the Catholic faith, was her telling me, “No matter where in the world you find yourself, when you are Catholic you can always find a place where you belong.” She would go on to tell me about how every Mass is the same all over the world. You never miss out, and even if the language is different, the Mass is the same so you will be welcomed, have support and belong. Along my journey I noticed that most of my friends were Catholic. Most relationships I have had for any significant amount of time have been with Catholics. My mother’s best friend, and great inspiration in my life, was a Catholic nun. Also, my son, since he was old enough to talk, has proclaimed himself a Catholic. My fiancé is Catholic. My mother is now Catholic. Throughout my life I have had many, what I would call, angels directing me to the Catholic Church. Once I opened my eyes, ears and heart and came to RCIA, I realized I had found my missing puzzle pieces. Understanding the Holy Trinity and truly having a relationship with Jesus has strengthened all my relationships, including my relationship with myself. It has truly been a healing experience to find where I belong, discover my heritage and define my culture. I know my journey is far from over. With all the pieces in place it can finally begin, as I continue to learn and grow in my relationship with Christ. I am beyond honored to finally be baptized and come into full communion with the Catholic Church, my church, and build a life with my family in faith. Robin came into full communion with the Catholic Church at the 4:00pm Mass on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Statement of Faith: Adam G

I’m very fortunate to be have been born into a wonderful family that gave me every opportunity to be successful in life. Our family embodied the Christian way of life in many ways, however, we never attended church. Faith was never discouraged; it just wasn’t something we discussed or practiced very often. As I’ve come to realize, I didn’t have a relationship with God and never gave it much thought. I moved to Houston right after I graduated from college. A year later, I met my eventual wife, Trista, who was raised Catholic. During our time dating, she explained what her faith meant to her and what it meant to be Catholic. We attended Mass together occasionally when we dated, but I had no clue what was going on. I felt lost and uncomfortable that I didn’t have the same connection to God as the other folks in attendance. This was my primary reason for not converting to Catholicism sooner. Trista and I eventually married in the Catholic Church and are now blessed with two amazing boys. For myself, my

wife and my children, I felt that now was the time to explore the Catholic faith and start forging a relationship with Christ. RCIA has taught me so much about Catholicism and has given me an amazing faith foundation. I still have much to learn about the faith, but I believe I have gained greater purpose in all that I do for going through this process. I am very blessed and honored to be involved with Good Shepherd Catholic Community. I feel very fortunate to have begun my relationship. Adam came into full communion with the Catholic Church at the 4:00pm Mass on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Jesus as well as our Bishops and the Catechism teach that we must respect life, dignity, and justice for the born and unborn, with particular attention for the vulnerable. Respecting the

life and dignity of others means to appreciate, honor, and hold them in esteem.

Do you love Jesus with agape or filial love? Agape love is selfless, unconditional, active, and expressed through action.

Jesus commands you to tend and feed His sheep regardless of how you love Him!

How do you respect life, dignity, and justice for the vulnerable, hungry, homeless, immigrants, refugees, disabled, mentally ill, prisoners?
