EVERY GIRL - EVERY DAY 22 May 2020 Good News from Croydon High Selsdon Meals We were delighted to receive more wonderful feedback from someone in our community enjoying our weekly meals. We were even more delighted to discover that this recipient helped build the current Croydon High school site! We hope to welcome him and his wife at the school when this is all over. My wife and I are delighted with the meals we have received, delivered by the Fire Officers, made by the kitchen staff of the High School, and would like to place on record our sincere thanks for all the kindness shown in preparing and cooking them. I have a long association with Croydon High School, having been the Project Manager responsible for its construction from day one to the completion and handover to the Public Day School Trust, so I regard it as part of our involvement in the history of Selsdon.GDSTvision Song Contest We were excited to take part in the first ever GDSTvision Song Contest yesterday! 25 GDST schools competed and it was broadcast live to GDST girls around the country.

Good News from Croydon High

Selsdon Meals

We were delighted to receive more wonderful feedback

from someone in our community enjoying our weekly

meals. We were even more delighted to discover that this

recipient helped build the current Croydon High school

site! We hope to welcome him and his wife at the school

when this is all over.

“My wife and I are delighted with the meals we have received,

delivered by the Fire Officers, made by the kitchen staff of the

High School, and would like to place on record our sincere

thanks for all the kindness shown in preparing and cooking

them.

I have a long association with Croydon High School, having

been the Project Manager responsible for its construction from

day one to the completion and handover to the Public Day

School Trust, so I regard it as part of our involvement in the

history of Selsdon.”

GDSTvision Song Contest

We were excited to take part in the

first ever GDSTvision Song Contest

yesterday! 25 GDST schools competed

and it was broadcast live to GDST

girls around the country.

Our own submission saw pupils and staff join together to perform ‘Let It Be’ by The Beatles.

Wonderful singers, a string section, and even a drummer all combined to create a truly magical

performance. United in song and spirit, no matter the distance!

The winners were Bromley High for the Creative Award and Blackheath High for the People’s

Choice Award. Congratulations!

Thank A Teacher Day

It was national ‘Thank A Teacher’ day on Wednesday. We have been truly humbled by all the

messages we have received from parents and pupils since we began our guided home learning

programme – they have made it feel as if every day is national ‘Thank A Teacher’ day! And

Wednesday was no exception. We have been regularly sharing your messages on social media;

they are simply too lovely to keep to ourselves. Here are a few examples:

Croydon High Virtual Open Evening

This year’s Open Evening was unlike no other – we invited prospective parents and pupils to

experience Croydon High online! We were determined to showcase our school in any way

possible, despite these unusual circumstances, and we are so proud of the final result. The way

staff and pupils came together (online!) to arrange this open evening is yet another shining

testament to the wonderful spirit of our school community.

Pre-recorded messages from Mrs Pattison, various Heads of Departments, and, of course, our

own pupils were made available to view on our website, providing an opportunity for visitors

to (virtually!) experience Croydon High. We are so grateful to every single person involved in

making this possible and would like to thank them for bringing our wonderful school to life,

despite the restrictions.

World Bee Day

May 20th was World Bee Day! This year, there was lots of

good news to celebrate.

In Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, its three bee colonies

miraculously survived the 2019 fire and are thriving. In

the UK, The Backyard Campaign distributed wildflower

seed balls to families through branches of Iceland supermarket and other locations, in the hopes

that millions of wildflowers will be planted across the nation, boosting bee populations.

And finally, a wonderful, new innovation will allow people everywhere to rescue bees

struggling to survive in urban areas. Have you ever stumbled across a dying bee on the

pavement, exhausted in its search for nectar? Social enterprise Bee Saviour Behaviour have

dreamed up a solution: they are transforming unused loyalty cards into ‘bee saviour sugar

cards’! The cards are embossed with three short wells that contain a sugar solution to revive

ailing bees. They easily fit into wallets and can be sent back to Bee Saviour Behaviour to be

refilled!

Mental Health Awareness Week

There have been some wonderful things happening as part of Mental Health Awareness Week

– we loved these two GDST articles: ‘Kindness Matters’ and ‘Kindness Costs Nothing’. Both

discuss the way acts of kindness can improve our mental wellbeing. Well worth the read!
