  • The Community Helena, or as the locals know it “Queen City,” has succeeded to offer scenic attractions, a vast cultural history, and a flourishing entertainment district in the City’s downtown area. The City of Helena is home to the second largest city park, second to New York’s Central Park. The park is 1,738 acres of open and undeveloped parkland, including Mount Ascension Park and Mount Helena City Park. Helena has over 75 miles of trails that originate in the downtown area, offering a world-class mountain biking or hiking experience for visitors.

The beautiful city is located less than a 30-minute drive from the Continental Divide, Canyon Ferry Reservoir, and the Missouri River. The natural environment of the Helena area provides residents and tourists opportunities to rock climb, cross-country and downhill ski, hike, bike, boat, and fish. The City of Helena has twelve elementary schools, two middle schools, and two public high schools. Helena is proudly home to Carroll College and Helena College. Carroll College is a private liberal arts institution and enrolls approximately 1,300 students. Helena College, a satellite location of the University of Montana, is a public two-year institution that enrolls about 1,400 students. Community life in the City is abundant and alive with street markets and festivals, theaters, museums, symphonies, fairs, and rodeos. A highlight of Helena’s historic downtown area is the Last Chance Gulch Walking Mall that is home to a diverse array of specialty shops, restaurants, and coffee-houses that offer a unique atmosphere and shopping experience. People from all walks of life can find an environment to suit their lifestyle in Helena.

Bill Roberts Golf Course In 1976 the City of Helena opened its 18-hole public golf course. In 1990, the City of Helena recognized the need to improve the course, and just over one million dollars in bond sales were committed to build new tees, greens, bunkers and ponds. A new irrigation system was installed, and 360 new trees were planted. In 1993, all phases of the project were completed.

The course is beautifully maintained providing a park-like setting right in the center of Montana's capital city. In addition to the course, the facility offers a driving range, practice green, 3 indoor golf simulators, PGA instruction, full-service golf shop, and a brand-new bar and grille.

The golf course is organized within the City of Helena structure, under the Parks and Recreation Department and is administered by the Parks and Recreation Director.
