Wyong. Thursday A cable was received here today announcing the death, on August 1st, of Private Ray Goldsmith from wounds received at Gallipoli. Deceased was 24 years of age, and the son of Ernest Goldsmith.

Gosford Times 27th August 1915 Private Ray Goldsmith, who died from wounds received at the Dardanelles, was 24 years of age, and the second son of Mr and Mrs Ernie Goldsmith, of Wyong, and a nephew of Mr George Goldsmith. He was a baker by trade, and unmarried.

"Mother It is My Duty To Go" A wave of sympathy and sadness spread over the town of Wyong when news became known that Pri-vate Ray Goldsmith had died from wounds received in the fight at the Dardanelles. Our sympathy goes out to the relatives of the deceased Private, who died an honorable death in performing his duty, to his home and country, and, having performed that supreme quality of duty is entitled to rank with the most distin-guished of his race. At the outbreak of war he was employed on the duplication works at Yass, but being inspired with the virtues which come from teh innate monitir, conscience, soon placed his services in the hands of the Empire. On enlisting he wrote his par-ents;- "Mother, it is my duty to go. My grandfather fought for us in the Crimean War, and i deem it my duty to help the Empire." his great grandfather fought in the Crimean War, and teh Service Medal is still held by Mr John Goldsmith, grandfather of our noble hero. Private Goldsmith is the second son of Mr and Mrs E J Goldsmith, Wyong, and was 21 years 9 months. He enlisted shortly after the outbreak of war, and became a private in the 3rd Battalion, and sailed with the first contingent on 19th October, 1914. After serving a time in the camp at Egypt, he embarked with his comrades to effect a landing at the Dardanelles, and took part in that memorable and heroic Australian dash, on April 25th, 1915. Pte Goldsmith was first wounded on 19th May, and after being in hospital for about a month, he returned to the front on 26th June. He was wounded again on the 25th July, and died of wounds on August 1. he qwas one of the last of the Wyong boys wounded, and the first to succumb. Private Goldsmith was 6ft ¼in, and was always keen on sport, indulging a good deal in football and fishing, and a young man who was fond of home and mother, but when the Em-pire called, he deemed it to be his duty to join the col-ors and fight for King

A memorial service to the late Private Ray Goldsmith will be conducted by Rev. W Moore at Wyong on Sunday next.

Wyong people have presented an enlarged photo of Private Ray Goldsmith to his parents, Mr and Mrs E J Goldsmith, the inscription being as follows. In Grateful Memory of Private Ray Goldsmith, one of Austra-lia's Sons, who fought and fell for his King and Country, at the Dardanelles, May, 1915, in a just and honorable cause. This token is freely presented to his esteemed parents with the sincere hope that they will be comforted in their sorrow and loss by the everlasting fact that he- Entered his rest a hero brave and bold, Whose name is now in golden letters scrolled.

Probate Jurisdiction- In the Estate of RAYMOND LESLIE GOLDSMITH, late of Wyong, in the State of New South Wales, and of the Australian Imperial Expeditionary Forces on Active Service, deceased- Application will be made after fourteen days from the publication hereof that Administration, with the Will annexed, of the Estate of the abovementioned deceased may be granted to the PUBLIC TRUSTEE: and all persons having a claim against the said Estate must render same in detail to the PUBLIC TRUSTEE on or before the 12th day of July, 1916.
