Golder Trust Internal News:

Golder Trust for Orphans Board of Trustees - New Chairperson Elected

This year marks the end of the Golder Trust for Orphans Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairmanship for Nico Bezuidenhout. Nico has done an outstanding job leading the Trust for the past six years as Chairperson (and 10 years as a Trustee). Nico has played a leading role in the development of the Golder Trust and his valuable input has shaped our legacy. Through his guidance, the Trust has grown from strength to strength. Golder Trust for Orphans would like to thank Nico for his extraordinary leadership and dedication to the Trust over the years. As part of the transition process, Nico will continue on the BoT for a period of time. We wish Nico every success for the future.

“A few years ago I had an opportunity to spend 3 months volunteering with the kids at one of our NGO partners (Rhotia Valley). Hearing the life stories of the kids and the terrible starts they had in life it was pretty incredible seeing how they have turned things around with our support. The Golder Trust for Orphans is a real and practical demonstration of Golder Associates being a good global citizen and shows how we live our core value of Caring. The Golder Trust for Orphans is driven by our employees – their passion and enthusiasm for the Golder Trust for Orphans has continued to grow and our track record over the last 13 years shows first-hand the difference we can make in the lives of the kids and their communities. ”

It is our pleasure to announce that Sue Longo (Calgary) has been elected as the next Chairperson of the Golder Trust for Orphans BoT. Sue has been a Trustee for 3 years and is a very active supporter of the Trust and its initiatives in all aspects (volunteering, leading initiatives and securing donations). We look forward to working with Sue as our Chairperson and wish her every success as she continues to actively shape the future of the Golder Trust for Orphans.

“I have personally seen children and mamas survive HIV/AIDS as a result of Anti-Retroviral (ARV) drugs; children’s health benefiting from food security; children blossoming in healthy living environments; being educated for a brighter future; and most importantly having hope for a better future. All because of the direct involvement of Golder Trust for Orphans.”

ACET ZimbabweNduna Primary School Breakfast in Schools Update

We recently received a letter of acknowledgement and thanks from the teachers at the Nduna Primary School in Zimbabwe. The ACET funding for Nduna was no longer available to the project, so Golder Trust stepped in to assist feeding the children during the recent drought period.

The teachers are delighted to report that the children are doing very well. They have seen an increase in attendance and absenteeism has reduced significantly. Classes are now lively as the children have increased concentration and energy levels. We have been told that they can visibly see the difference in the children’s faces.

Since the school feeding program started, they’ve had a marked increase in enrolments. They are currently supporting up to 310 children (from 227 the month before).

Golder volunteers had the privilege of being involved with the feeding scheme at the time they came out in 2016. Without our donors and loyal supporters we could not provide aid to such worthy causes. We appreciate your continued effort and input into the Golder Trust for Orphans.

Updates after March 2017 Volunteer Trip:

Malelane Green Peppers: Bulembu Chicken Coop: Chicks introduced and their progress

After: Look at how they have grown from seedling stage.

Before:

The agricultural students from the high school purchased 100 chicks in the 1st week of June. This will be the first time they will be rearing chickens as a part of the curriculum. See how they have grown over 3 weeks!
