A success story from Amine, currently working as an English Teacher

« Hi, my name is Amine, I live in Pa-ris in the 12th arrondissement, and I’m an English tutor. Or should I say a new English tutor, having just recently been awarded my ESOL qualification from Cambridge : http://www.cam-bridgeenglish.org/fr/exams-and-quali-fications/proficiency/

I think that was one of the most dif-ficult examinations of my career, if not the most difficult. Although I had successfully completed five years of post-secondary studies in Web Marke-ting, it took me a long time get back into the rhythm of revising as a stu-dent.

This exam was also one of my biggest challenges that I set myself two years back. A few weeks before the exam, drowning in pages of vocabulary to be learnt and grammar lessons to be assi-milated, I participated in training with Trans-Formations.

Having already had some experience of personal development methods, I approached this training with doubts and a certain degree of skepticism. What can I say... rarely, I think, have I worked so effectively, two weeks before an exam, I realized that the mountains of revision that had been scaring me, had turned into a paper giant.

and overwhelming that you give up on the idea and make do with just rea-ding one book. Or else... Or else you decide to share out the books between yourselves. Each of you will hold a brainstorming session for each book you read. Yes, but that still leaves you with four 300-page books to read in 30 days. So how do you handle that? You have two options :

• Either you spend your days andnights reading your four books andpreparing your brainstormingsessions, and cut down on your lei-sure activities and focus your wholeattention on turning over the pages

• Or you use the speed reading method!I know what you’re going to say.

«Speed reading? Yeah right, what’s the point? All you have to do is read faster, no need for any training, you just have to get into the habit and that’s all there is to it!»

«Anyway, I’m slow reader so for me it’s a non starter.»

A non starter, you said?

No need for any training? Well, how about we give it a try? This weekend, I happened to go on a «Trans-forming» training course. I bet you already guessed what the training was about... Yep, speed reading.

I was amazed to discover learning methods that were better suited to me, and that I actually enjoyed! During the exam I worked like a whirlwind, reading and analyzing texts so much faster. I saved about 30 minutes on my usual time for finishing all the sections of the exam.

And now I’ve set myself a whole new challenge, to finish all the books on my bookshelves, some of which have been sitting there undisturbed for years. Reading a book a day has become quite possible for me now, I like it because I can keep buying more books, and not just for show. What I took away with me from this training was more than simply a change in methodology, it was a new way of looking at the world, and an eagerness to take on the biggest challenges in future.»

Feedback from Victory

Imagine this situation. You and two of your friends want to learn something about subject X inside of one month. You make enquires and it turns out that in order to get a full picture of this subject, there are 12 books that are essential reading. Twelve books of around 300 pages each. That seems so time-consuming

Page 4: GOLDEN BOOK - UpBrainItupbrainit.com/UBI-GB/TSF_UpBrainIt_GoldenBook.pdf · and overwhelming that you give up on the idea and make do with just rea-ding one book. Or else... Or else

What’s the point of speed reading?

The point is that, like you, I have loads of books on my reading list, and I never find the time. And yet, I love reading (especially by the fire on stormy nights out in the sticks with a mug of hot chocolate!). Result: the list gets longer and longer before my eyes, and I don’t have time to cross even one book off my list.

Ask yourself this: how productive is it to spend all your weekend being a couch potato, reading THE book that you simply must read? You may get a certain satisfaction when you finish the book, but why not envision achieving a far greater satisfaction? Wouldn’t it be better able if you could manage to read your 300-page-long book, go and pray at the mosque, spring-clean your room, enjoy a meal with friends and help your sister to learn her multiplication tables, all in one day?

Is there any kind of training for speed reading?

Yes, the training I always recommend to our friends in and around Paris is the training delivered by Steve: Trans-formations. Yep, yep, you got it, Steve! The president of LIFE! You’ll get the benefits of top quality training with an inspirational and mashallah very interesting trainer, and you

won't even need to slip discreetly out of the room and miss part of training to go and perform your salah; that’s already been built into the schedule!

The structure of Trans-formation training

For an afternoon, Steve guides us through the technique and putting it into practice. Each explanation is followed by an exercise or a concrete example.

Selected quotes from your trainer

«Studies have shown that it takes about 12 hours to acquire a new competency, and between 12 and 30 days for a new skill to become automatic. So above all, please don’t think that as of this evening you will be able to swallow 500 pages in 2 hours! You have to train yourself.»

«Your brain is like an iMac. To make full use of it, you need a manual, an antivirus, you need to download applications and install updates.»

«Never say ‘it’s di icult’, say ‘it’s not easy’. Think positive.»

«In order to be able to read faster, you must also increase your knowledge of the language.»

«Which is best, in your view? Remembe-ring 80% of what you read, when that

Page 5: GOLDEN BOOK - UpBrainItupbrainit.com/UBI-GB/TSF_UpBrainIt_GoldenBook.pdf · and overwhelming that you give up on the idea and make do with just rea-ding one book. Or else... Or else

the 80% accounts for 20% of what is of interest? Or remembering 20% of what you read, when that the 20% accounts for 80% of what is of importance ? »

«Your brain needs breaks, it’s no good training yourself for two hours non-stop!»

Little extras that come with the training:

• Breaks to enjoy an organic fruit juice, tea, coffee and biscuits

• Prayer rooms for our brothers and sisters.

• Concrete examples and active training: no more chalkboards, amphitheaters and trainers doing their spiel in a dreadful monotone. You get actively involved in your training!

• It’s a complete training: we look not only at speed reading, but also at mind-mapping, photoreading, the Pareto principle, note taking, etc. These are all elements and tips that may be helpful in your personal reading, as well as in your «required» reading, for instance for classes. These tips can even help you in your studies in general.

• Ongoing support after training: maybe in between leaving the classroom and arriving home, you thought of a question? Open your mailbox and send an email to

Steve! Our brother is there to help us, mashaAllah, better than any customer service helpline.

• You want to take it a step further?During the training, you are givenrecommendations for books and apps.

Warning!

Don’t imagine that this is going to be a breeze in the park! There is so much new information that your mind will be working over-time.

So there’s no time for daydrea-ming, you need to focus right from the start! If you don’t train yourself, nothing will change. It’s up to you to use all the keys you are given!

To all of you who are intrigued and would like to know more: do the training and judge for yourselves.

Excellent training and an excellent, very professional trainer. Honestly, I haven’t for one second regretted doing it. I very highly recommend it to students, honestly it’s a gold mine to explore if you want to score top grades in your studies. I wish I had had the advantage of these valuable tools when I was young and I think it’s a great pity that the education system in France failed to make them available to us.»

Balqis Sheba

Delivered excellent training, gave us good tools. I recommend everyone to go along to this institute for training!

At first I didn’t accept the criticism, I tended to react against it but then suddenly criticism, bam, everything unblocked itself, the method works (but you’ll have to do the training tolearn the method ^^) Think with your head not with your heart (great scholars or your mom ^^) Then I really got into playing thedebating game, claim and counterclaim, lol great fun.

SOME MAILS FROM OUR CUSTOMERS

Salam oualeykoum,Thank you for the documents and the training, I’ve already doubled my reading speed, I have to work on memorizing via mind maps and increase my speed still further.I have a few questions.

You told us about a really good NLP training course in Dubai, can you give me the details, also do you have details of any training in France that would help with working on what you taught us (speed reading mind map a: with advanced training workshops). I read in English and Arabic, can the method you taught us be applied in the same way bearing in mind that there are vocabulary words and phrases that I struggle with? Do you have any tips about reading languages other than our mother tongue. What do you focus on in your memorization training: mind map-ping or memorization techniques based on VACOG, etc....?

I look forward to hearing from you.Oualid

« A such useful training that I hope will open up new perspectives-for us. Thank you to the trainer and the transformations team,Wish us fulfillment and success. »

I really enjoyed today’s training. Thank you for passing on the tech-niques and methods and showing us how to put them into practice. I would have no hesitation in recommending your training.

My prior objectives and expectations have been met. I learned a lot and also I was amazed by my results. Now, ,all I need to do is to practice so that it becomes a habit, say 12 days.

Again, thank you.

Hi there,

I attended the training sessions delivered by Trans-formations and Steve, the coach. What I liked most of all about these sessions was the chance to go into topics in greater depth with a small and very friendly group. We had opportunities to practice and discuss.

The exercises were revealing and I left at the end of each day with tools and with my brain racing at a hundred miles an hour.

The atmosphere of the Group helped us to risk sharing in order to self-evaluate ourselves and to look at the challenges in an effective way. I have participated in a number of training programs in my career and this is one of the best.

New projects emerged with the group and I’m looking forward im-patiently to seeing them again and participating in the next stage.

Thanks to you all!»

«The training is excellent, an absolute gem, it cuts straight to the chase. It gives you real method and real tips for everything you do, whether as part of your projects, to read and memorize efficiently, for better communication, suggesting ideas to your leader, and being more productive but above all the essential aspect to be able to free yourself from the limitations of your thoughts and have time to do the things you really love. Just do it, go right ahead, you won’t regret it. »

Thanks for the support materialsand for this enriching seminar !

For my part, starting next day I put into practice some of the techniques I had been taught and I was able to read a whole book (109 pages, it wasn’t very long) in the morning at the optimal hours (6to7 am) by applying the following techniques:. Previsualization the evening before. Mind mapping my questions/reading goals the evening before . In the morning, setting a time budget: 1 hour. Techniques: visual guide and jumps, I tried to control my sub vocalizationbut that was difficult. No canoe-paddling, that’s the technique that appeals to me the least... (if you have any advice about this, I’m all ears).. Outcome: I finished the book in one sitting without getting bored or dozing off, but in an hour and a half not in a hour. That said, I took a few breaks to think about specific quotation from time to time.. Later in the day, making a mind map of the knowledge acquired from the book: this was the first time for me so I found I spent quite some time on it (about 1 hour), but I’m rigorous and thorough by nature so I took the time to flesh it out with little sketches and I also took the time to double-check the information in the book (see my mind map, attached). My conclusions basedon this first test: I feel a great sense of pride and achievement for having implemented these new techniques! I feel I have benefited from this reading and have «connected» with the book because I was much more involved in reading, understanding and assimilating the information. Usually I write up my notes in a notebook after my reading, but in this case, with a quick glance at the mind map the information can be better absorbed and memo-rized (at least that’s how I feel at the moment). And ultimately, the unique and creative side of mind mapping is very stimulating and great fun. Sure, it requires a little more commitment at first in terms of time, but I guess that as you carry on it gets faster. I’m the kind of person who can read a book and forget the contents, and reread it a few years later... I hope to avoid doing this and to refresh my memory quickly with mind mapping without having to reread it all. Sorry this email is rather long, but I thought the feedback might interest you. Are you planning to organize shock commando exercises with ex course participants? That could be a very stimulating challenge.

Thanks again for your time and your commitment !”
