Hi everyone,
Well we all talk about it and now it’s finally here: this thing called winter. What needs done to the bike? Now’s the time to think ahead - by planning ahead, you can have it ready in no time. The service should have been done before we park them, but any new items can be added before it gets warm.
On the part of getting ready, we have had our ride planning meeting, so our ride calendar is ready. As always, we will adjust during the year as necessary. I know everyone will be happy with it because we all had a chance for input.
Esther and I will be attending Cabin Fever. We have reserved a room for the weekend, so if anyone needs anything, feel free to use it to relax or change. Let’s have fun and keep moving forward.
Thanks,
Bill & Esther

DOING A GOOD THING IS IT'S OWN REWARD
There are two questions that are asked when any proposition is offered. The first one is “How much does it cost?” The second one, is its twin brother: “What do I get out of it?” In other words, people are looking for a reward. They are constantly looking for things where they can get something out of it. The truth is that doing a thing is its own reward. When the task is done, there accompanies it a sense of accomplishment. When life does not have any sense of accomplishment within it, it becomes humdrum, dull, and even dead. Instead of thinking about what kind of monetary benefit you can get from it or what kind of influential prestige will be rewarded for it, always remember that doing a thing is its own reward: that sense of accomplishment when you see something that needs to be done and do it. Don't shift the burden of responsibility to somebody else. When you do that as you shift the burden you also shift the blessing. The most blessed people are the people who see a need and fill it. Yes whatever thing you do is it's own reward. As you have opportunity to do good unto all people, put it down in your little day book and underscore it in red. "DOING A THING IS IT'S OWN REWARD." (This article came from the GWRRA
web site)
IT WILL BE SUMMERTIME SOME TIME...WHEN???? PLEASE REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING: Bill Ford: Going thru treatments and his health care.... Bill Sparks: Having really bad back problems.... RIDER EDUCATION AND MOTORIST AWARENESS UPDATE
By Gary Ballou, Assistant Ride Coordinator
I’d like to update you on a couple of Rider Education opportunities. Our March 2 gathering will be followed by a seminar on Team Riding. This is to refresh our group riding skills, in preparation for the riding season. Weather permitting we may even get to use them on our way to lunch @ Clays afterwards. But in early March, it’s just as likely to be snowing so we’ll just have to wait & see. Here is the link to the GWRRA Team Riding Manual. I will also have a few printed copies at the gathering. http://www.gwrra.org/regional/ridered/PDF%20Files/TeamRidingManualver2-5-25-05.pdf At the April 6 gathering, Margaret may be sharing something from the Leadership Training toolbox. She’ll be having more to say about that. After the May 4 gathering, I will be presenting some ideas about Recognizing & Dealing with Distracted Drivers. Maybe we’ll have some opportunities to put those ideas into practice, on our way to lunch at Colliers Family Restaurant in Springfield. I know it’s a long way off, but please circle your calendars now for SATURDAY MAY 11. We will be doing a “First Annual” MOTORIST AWARENESS exercise, in this case a brown-bag lunch ride to a highway rest area TBD. This will be our contribution to coincide with National Motorcycle Safety Month. It will be an opportunity to interact with and make a positive impression of motorcyclists with the general motoring public. We will hang out for a half-day or so, ask the public to watch out for motorcycles, answer questions about our bikes, etc. Going forward, I am hoping to make the second Saturday of May a coordinated MOTORIST AWARENESS Day across all of GWRRA. This is our first step. I need EVERYONE to participate (unless you are taking a Rider Course at Wilmington that day) Thank you in advance for your support. Wear Your Helmet Every Time you Ride (and be safe out there!)

Our meeting room is going to be under renovation starting soon. We will need to be flexible. Kerri said that they would love for us to continue to donate to the food pantry. We should label it and put it in the office. They will transfer it to wherever the new location will be. Let's support them generously. Please! The Obetz Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 20th. It will be different this year, starting with breakfast with the Easter Bunny. We could be flipping pancakes. I will update everyone as the details are finalized. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all. Esther

February Dates in US History
February 1, 2003 - Sixteen minutes before it was scheduled to land, the Space Shuttle Columbia
broke apart in flight over west Texas, killing all seven crew members.
February 2, 1848 - The war between the U.S. and Mexico ended with the signing of the Treaty
of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In exchange for $15 million, the U.S. acquired the areas encompassing
parts or all of present day California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming,
and Texas.
February 3, 1913 - The 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, granting
Congress the authority to collect income taxes. Doesn’t that just thrill you this time of year?
February 6, 1756 – Happy Birthday Aaron Burr (died 1836). If he had lost the duel with
Hamilton there might be BURR, THE MUSICAL.
February 8, 1910 - The Boy Scouts of America was founded by William Boyce in Washington,
D.C., modeled after the British Boy Scouts.
