and for all the diocesan seminarians, especially Brian Ashmankas from our parish.

Fr. John Gavin of the Society of Jesus at Holy Cross College will celebrate one of our Masses each weekend.

First Friday Friday, May 3, is the First Friday of the month. Adoration of the Real Presence of Jesus will begin after the 7 a.m. Mass and will conclude at the 5:30 p.m. Mass. We

encourage you to visit the church during the day for a few moments of reflection and prayer.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’” (John 20:21)

Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out into the world, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and generous. Look for opportunities to share His peace, not only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In giving, we receive the peace of Jesus Christ.

COLLECTIONS

The collection for Easter weekend was $4,738. The Good Friday collection for the Holy Land was $788. The special Easter collection was $5,372. We are very grateful for your extraordinary generosity.

Policy for Baptism of Children Call to Celebrate: Baptism, which consists of three group sessions, is required for parents seeking to have their infants/children baptized at North American Martyrs. It is strongly suggested that parents prepare prior to the birth of their child. To register, contact Joan at 508-798-0612 or [email protected]. The next Preparation Sessions will be held in June. (Other sessions are held in September and January). The full policy is posted on the bulletin board of the church and on the North American Martyrs website.

THANK YOU!

Our community changed lives this Lent, and CRS Rice Bowl wants to say thank you! Don’t forget to turn in your CRS

Rice Bowl. Collection boxes are located at the back entrance of the church and in the parish hall.

Diocese of Worcester Night at the Bravehearts

All schools, parishes and agencies of the Diocese of Worcester are invited to join in an evening of summertime fun at the ballpark on Friday, June 14 at 7 pm as Dr. David Perda throws out the first pitch as the Worcester Bravehearts take on Brockton Rox at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Postgame fireworks show will complete the evenings fun. Our group will get free Braveheart hats! Tickets online at http://worcesterbraveheartsgroups.com (use password: diocese) or contact Sue at [email protected] with questions.

SCRIPTURE STUDY

A Scripture Study using the “Six Weeks with the Bible” series will be held on Thursday evenings, 7-8:30 p.m. in the rectory, beginning Thursday, May 2. The series title we will be using is “Mary: Jesus’ Mother—and Ours.” We will look at six episodes from Mary's life in the Gospels of Luke and John: the annunciation, visit to Elizabeth, the birth of Jesus, the encounter in the Temple, the wedding at Cana, and Jesus' death on the Cross. Author Kevin Perotta also delves into some areas of Mary's life not explicitly covered in the Gospels, such as her birth free of original sin, her assumption into heaven, and her maternal role in the family of Jesus' followers. All of this comes together to gives us a distinct sense of Mary as a person. Please call the Religious Education Office at 508-798-0612 if interested in attending.

Divorced/Separated Support Ministry

Are you a divorced or separated Catholic who needs to share with others what you are going through? Meetings are held at St. Joseph’s Church, 10 H Putnam Ext. in Charlton, MA on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 7- 9 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus room. Our next meeting date is May 13. For more information, contact Karen Lennox at 508-373-2067.

2nd Sunday of Easter Do not be afraid. (Revelation 1:17)

I t happened just about every time God revealed himself. John had a vision of the risen Jesus, and

it made him faint with terror (Revelation 1:17). Isaiah had a vision of the majesty of God, and he cried out, “Woe is me, I am doomed!” (Isaiah 6:5). Ezekiel saw God coming in the clouds, surrounded by rings of fire, and he fell on his face in awe (Ezekiel 1:28).

Even more “ordinary” revelations of God’s holiness had a similar effect. Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man,” after Jesus miraculously filled his nets with fish (Luke 5:8).

These may be dramatic scenes, but what happened next is even more dramatic. Jesus told John, “Do not be afraid,” and then proceeded to give him messages for the churches (Revelation 1:17). Isaiah had his sins purged, and God called him to be a prophet (Isaiah 6:8). Seeing Ezekiel facedown on the ground, God told him to stand up; he just wanted to talk with him (Ezekiel 2:1). And Jesus told Peter, “Do not be afraid,” and then called him to become a disciple (Luke 5:10).

Do you see the pattern? In each story, God made it clear that the person’s past sins and mere mortality didn’t pose obstacles to him. He was more focused on the work he had for them to do.

This is what divine mercy looked like in biblical times, and it’s what it looks like today. It’s God forgiving our every sin, cleansing our consciences, and easing our fears. It’s also God looking with sadness on a darkened, sinful world and sending us out as his ambassadors.

Do not be afraid. Jesus says these words to you today. Don’t be afraid of God. He loves you and he forgives you. And don’t be afraid to share that mercy with the people around you. Forgive them just as you have been forgiven. Let them see in you the merciful face of God.
