    Idaho Mountain Trading (IMT) has been in the business of sell-ing outdoor equipment for 37 years.

    It all started when Richard Na-pier, the stores owner and general manager, went skiing for the first time after moving to Idaho and fell in love with the sport.

    He opened the store in 1977 as a cross country ski and back-packing shop, but has slowly evolved to include all kinds of outdoor gear. There is also a full-service ski and bike repair shop in the back.

    IMT is currently making the transition from winter gear to spring and summer equipment and clothing.

    Our bikes are really popular this time of year, said Cindy Na-pier, Richards wife and sales man-ager of IMT. It is biking, hiking and camping season right now and every year we look forward to helping people find what they need for their outdoor activities in the warm weather.

    IMT is locally owned and oper-ated and the products are all hand-picked carefully to fit the needs of all kinds of customers. The store is

    looking forward to this years ship-ment of mountain bikes.

    The service we provide here is excellent and we cater to many different sports, said Cindy. The great thing about IMT is that our employees are selling clothing and equipment that they are truly pas-sionate about.

    Cindy and Richard dated for 16 years and got married last Sep-tember. Richard explained that IMT really became a family busi-ness when Cindy came into the picture and his son, Davin started working at the store.

    It definitely has a Ma and Pop,

    local kind of feel.At IMT, the employees try to

    relate to the customers like fam-ily as well. Some customers have been shopping at the store all 37 years. Some even came to the Na-pier wedding last year.

    We really try to get to know people on a personal level and many of them have become our friends, said Richard.

    Family affair Local outdoors shop offers personal touch, love of sport

    The Celt is a taste of Ireland in the middle of Idaho Falls. Inside the cor-ner building is a clean, quaint, Irish-style pub, complete with one of the largest collections of whiskey in town.

    Liza McGeachin, the general manager of The Celt, explained that the idea for the pub and grill came from her familys heritage.

    We wanted to incorporate the Scottish and Irish parts of our heritage in the setting, and I think the theme fits with the building really well, said McGeachin.

    The Celt opened August 2012 when the McGeachins and their family friends, the Plums, put their heads together to make their dream a reality.

    Features of The Celt include a full bar, full lunch and dinner menus, and live mu-sic all interlaced with Irish and Scottish themes. Popular Celtic dishes include shep-herds pie, fish and chips and corned beef and cabbage.

    The Jameson Burger is delicious, said McGeachin. It has pepper jack cheese, our Celtic caramelized onions and a Jameson barbecue sauce with a little spicy kick to

    it. You wont taste another burger like it in town.

    And how could it be Celtic without something to drink? McGeachin said their most popular drink is the Bloody Mary.

    McGeachin said The Celt hosts a lot of special events to liven up downtown and provide a fun atmosphere for people to enjoy.

    The live performances occur twice a week, usually on Thursdays and Satur-days. Many of the acts come from out of town, some of which play traditional Irish music.

    The atmosphere or the craic, as they call it in Ireland is very important to us here, said McGeachin. We try to attract a really good crowd. It is a little high end, but it is also casual enough that you can still relax. We love the downtown communi-ty, we like to be a part of it and we want to make it a happening area.

    Chesbro Music is 103 years old this year. But thats not what Tana Stahn, the company owner, likes to focus on.

    We are constantly moving forward to provide the best musical experience, said Stahn. It is our great customer ser-vice, employee knowledge, and longevity that set us apart from other music stores.

    Employees of Chesbro constantly keep up on trends by studying the Internet, at-tending NAMM classes, studying vendor information, and staying up to date with new colors and merchandise offerings in the industry. Chesbro also pays close at-tention to customer feedback.

    Stahn said Chesbro employees are great about staying up on all the new mu-sic titles.

    They really know and understand all the various instruments and printed mu-sic, she explained. We have customers come in and sing part of a song and our employees will know what it is. They will do further research if necessary. Every week there are numerous new music ti-tles and books available for purchase.

    Stahn credits much of Chesbros suc-cess to the gifted employees she works with.

    I would not be successful without a team of 45 associates to help me continue the Chesbro legacy, said Stahn. I attri-bute our success to all of them and to our great customers and vendors whom we enjoy working with every day.

    Chesbro is an authorized Fender re-pair center and can fix any brand of gui-tar. Dale Cress has been working at Ches-bro for 36 years and Stahn said he uses his great experience to repair guitars for customers.

    The store carries musical instruments, musical accessories, guitars, drums, and

    a huge selection of printed music. In addition to merchandise, Chesbro

    is also the home of several teaching stu-dios where they offer violin, guitar, and voice classes among many others.

    Stahn said she is excited about the group lessons with Craig Green, a mu-sician who performs all over town. The lessons will start on May 12.

    The lessons are organized by semester and each semester consists of six lessons.

    To be successful at learning an instru-ment, you have to have a desire to prac-tice and the student/teacher connection is important, said Stahn.

    She explained that there is a definite connection between the teachers associ-ated with Chesbro and their students. It is something she witnesses on a regular basis at the students recitals she attends.

    Teton Guitars is Chesbros own trade-mark brand of guitars. The guitars are available in both acoustic and electric models. The store also produces Teton Ukuleles.

    Even though classes and music sup-plies are what make up Chesbro, Stahn explained that there is so much more to it than that.

    We are here to help people start to achieve their music dreams at any age, she said. We are passionate about music and the effect it has on educational devel-opment and self worth.

    A new, one-of-a-kind boutique will be selling one-of-a-kind merchandise starting May 1. Th e Collective, a brand new artisans and

    craft ers gift boutique sells items that are 100 percent handmade and original. Own-ers Scott and Tiff ani Duff say thats what sets their store apart.

    Th e idea originated from high-end craft fairs which Tiff ani has participated in as a vendor for years. Th e goal of the boutique was to feature local artisans and craft ers and give them a place to sell their wares no matter the time of year.

    Th e best way to describe it is an arts and craft s fair variety in a boutique setting. It will be organized in a way that makes sense to shop, said Tiff ani. Th e concept is every-one contributes but we set the store.

    Scott added that the hope is it will en-courage people to look through the whole store and not skip over anything.

    Th e Duff s have been selective when it comes to the vendors whose merchan-dise they are willing to sell, focusing on high-quality wares.

    Wares include stained glass, horseshoe art, woodworking, furniture, natural soaps

    and candles, fi ne photography, items for children and babies, jewelry, purses and art.

    A room in the back of the shop acts as a classroom where artisans will come teach classes, keeping 100 percent of the money they raise.

    Th e artisans and craft ers are proud of what they make and it really shows in the items they bring in, said Scott.

    Scott said they hope to collaborate with other downtown vendors, and help drive more tra c downtown.

    I feel like this business and this location are the perfect marriage, said Tiff ani.

    Th e grand opening for Th e Collective is May 10. Many of the artisans will be in the store to answer questions and talk about their wares. Children are also welcome to come with a parent to create complimentary make-and-take craft s for Mothers Day.     New renovations to The Frosty Ga-tor, a bar and restaurant in Idaho Falls, will add to the stimulating environment that already exists there.

    Jake Schaefer, the owner of the Gator, said it is the atmosphere that sets it apart from other bars or restaurants.

    We arent simply a biker bar, or a sports bar we welcome everyone who wants to come and have a good time, said Schaefer, thats what were all about.

    The Frosty Gator has been a part of Ida-ho Falls since 1998, but Schaefer has been the owner since 2005. He said it all started when the original owners huge Florida Gators fans brought their talents to the bar and restaurant on D Street.

    Currently, the Gator contains a bar, restaurant, outdoor seating area, pool/foosball area, and a large separate room for live music and events. The plan is to knock down part of the wall that separates the two areas and insert two swinging fire doors.

    The Gator invites local bands to come play at their location several times a month. They also host charity functions, raffles, fundrais-ers and private parties. Their catering trailer acts as a bar during events and it showcases several options of Frosty Gator beer.

    Schaefer said he loves to invite local talent to come play live music at the Frosty Gator.

    We have never been at a loss for some-one to come play, he said, There is always a band looking for somewhere to perform.

    The Frosty Gator does catering for several different kinds of events even weddings. They have also done class reunions, family reunions, and company parties. Their most popular catering food options are brisket, ribs, or steak. All their meat whether it is catered or served in the restaurant is hand cut in-house and smoked to perfection.

    The only thing we dont seem to do is

    grow our own vegetables! said Schaefer. One of the most popular dishes at the

    Gator are the wings. There are featured sauces that change every so often and Schaefer said he leaves that decision up to the chefs.

    I have some very talented guys in the kitchen. I deal with the business side of things and leave the decisions about food up to them, said Schaefer.

    Schaefer said all the food is delicious at the Gator, but if he had to choose he would order the chicken tenders that are made with original, in-house batter. He also highly recommends the salads, and the sandwiches. The Gator serves meals in large portions and almost everything is made in-house. The soups, sauces and oth-er items are all made from scratch by the brilliant chefs.

    The menu at the Gator changes about twice a year so they can keep up with the marketplace and what is popular, Schaefer explained. The chefs work together to come up with a Frosty Gator flare on popular dishes.

    Bud Light is by far the most popular drink at the Frosty Gator, although the bar offers 18 microbrews and a large assort-ment of bottles and full-service liquor.

    Once a month the Gator has a UFC fight night where they play the fight on their 22 televisions for the entertainment of their customers. They also feature trivia and Tex-as Hold Em Poker.

    Come to the Frosty Gator for an amaz-ing and fun experience, said Schaefer. When you come to the Frosty Gator, ev-eryone will learn your name and the atmo-sphere is great. If its not fun, were not in-terested. After a long day at work or going through a routine, we know people come to the Frosty Gator to have a good time and thats our goal.

    Park Avenue Mercantile recently changed its name from Leatherworks to better fit what the store offers; a collection of goods ranging from leather and hardware, to brewing supplies and sew-ing machines.

    The merchandise doesnt stop there. They also carry items like local goats milk and cheese making supplies. Also part of Park Avenue Mercantile is what has been known downtown as The Paisley Camel, a quaint shop containing endless amounts of hand-made purses, jewelry and gifts.

    We are a one-stop, do-it-yourself sup-ply shop, said Rachel Zaladonis, owner of Park Avenue Mercantile, and creator of the majority of the handmade wares. Our new name better reflects who we are.

    The store carries a large selection of grain, hops and yeast.

    A lot of people say even though we are smaller than some places, we have a much larger and more unique selection, said Jes-sica Bruce, the manager of Park Avenue Mercantile.

    Bob Zaladonis, also an owner of Park

    Avenue Mercantile, said customers often come in for a specific project when they need things they cant get anywhere else.

    In January, Bob and Rachel Zaladonis purchased what was L&D Brewshop now an essential part of their business.

    This past winter we received a faade grant, said Bruce. With the new look on the outside, we are continuing to expand and remodel the inside. We will be adding soap and candle-making as well as offering brewing classes.

    All the basic beer brewing classes at Park Avenue Mercantile will be free to the pub-lic. They will also offer advanced classes with guest brew masters for a fee.

    We are offering most of our classes for free because we want to encourage people to get into the art, explained Bruce.

    Park Avenue Mercantile offers a variety of classes. People interested are welcome to come in or call the store. Brewing classes start in May.

    MarCellars, in Idaho Falls is a small, locally-owned business that has been serving the area since 1995. What isnt small about MarCellars, howev-er, is its selection of wine and beer.

    Owner Marilynne Manguba, explained that their wine comes from all over the world including bottles from Italy, France, Argentina and California. Also popular is their wide selection of gluten-free drinks.

    We are a wine and beer store special-izing in micro-brews and hand-picked wines, said Manguba.

    Not only can customers come to Mar-Cellars to purchase their favorite beverages, but they can also sip a glass while they shop.

    We have nine beer taps that are changed out weekly, said Manguba.

    The store hosts tastings every Thurs-day from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The tastings usu-ally involve wine of a certain region or style, but once a month they feature a cer-tain genre of beer. The MarCellars tasting update can be found on their Facebook page. The tastings are five for $5 and in-

    cludes detailed information about the wines that are featured.

    MarCellars fills special orders of wine or beer for parties, where customers can pur-chase several cases at a time.

    We provide personalized service to our customers, including deciding on the per-fect beer or wine to go with a meal, said Manguba. The selection, the service and the local feel of the business are what made my husband and I buy it eight years ago. We were old-time customers before it was ours and when the previous owner was selling we wanted to make sure it maintained that same feel.

    Manguba said she is excited because many of the MarCellars wine and beer dis-tributers are opening warehouses closer to Idaho Falls.

    That means our selection will just keep getting better and better, said Manguba.

    ARTitorium on Broadway is on its way to being a much-loved destination for kids of all ages. By August of this year the array of unfinished walls and construction tools will transform into an interactive art center. At that time the Idaho Falls Arts Council will open ARTitori-um to the public.

    Imagine a science center where everything is interactive, but the focus is on creating and looking at art, said Georgina Goodlander, Visual Arts Director at the Idaho Falls Arts Council. There is a big focus on fun too.

    ARTitorium will include a giant magnet wall, which is sponsored by Teton Toyota. It will feature a road and an Idaho landscape, where kids can place magnets of trucks, animals, trees and people. There will even be a magnet of the Teton Toyota dog, Buddy.

    Also for the tots will be a yel-low, spiral slide that goes from the top floor to the main floor.

    For us the slide is a symbol that ARTitorium is supposed to be a fun and interactive space, said Goodlander. It isnt about look-ing at things; it is about interacting with them.

    The virtual gallery is an octa-gon-shaped room containing six large touch-screens. There, partic-ipants can browse famous artwork from the 1500s to today. There are more than 300 artworks available from the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art.

    The idea is to be inspired by the great artworks of the past. It is where kids can look at the work of

    different artists and discover what they are interested in, said Good-lander. It is designed like a little museum that you can curate and put up the different artwork on each of the six screens.

    ARTitorium will have six cre-ation stations. Each will have a computer where the artist can choose from seven different soft-ware applications that allow them to create paintings, landscapes, collages, patterns, and cave art.

    Goodlanders background is in developing games for art museums.

    I am a big believer that art should be fun, she said. When I first heard about ARTitorium I was excited because I think we of-

    ten have a perception that art is a boring, quiet experience that kids wouldnt be interested in. ARTito-rium is perfect because it will be fun and interesting for kids, but it will also teach them about art and technology.

    There are a variety of features in progress for the center like the interactive green screen where artists can create their own mini movies with several different backgrounds, an art sculpture area where artists can create three-di-mensional artwork and a stop-frame animation area.

    Tune Up is a musical composi-tion space sponsored by Chesbro. It will include digital instruments

    like guitars and pianos. The soft-ware creates a visual interpreta-tion of what is played on the in-struments.

    ARTitorium meets a lot of ed-ucation standards for students K through 12. But Goodlander said the focus is still on having fun.

    On the upper level of the build-ing, a theatre is under construc-tion and Goodlander said the Idaho Falls Arts Council plans to hold theatre camps there and host dance recitals and plays.

    Other features of the ARTitori-um like the multi-purpose room for classes and parties, interactive touch-screens in the lobby, and re-cording rooms, will be available to
